We've got BTC already as a symbol for Bitcoin so how the hell can you raise an appraisal that supports its conversion to a logo for new topics and whatsoever??... I don't understand that..
I don't see any sense in creating anymore pains-taking innovations on this current site, mostly since Theymos is working on a new site already.. sometimes, it looks like an abandoned project, but NO! Theymos is usually way too busy that he isn't doing something else in support to the forum's renaissance... Especially when he made the objections himself. So I believe whatever development that should've been here will automatically be made synchronized over there... TIME WILL TELL!!

Why would you think about limiting the forum to only 200 characters when it's a discussion place?

I mean mostly just typing 100-200 characters

Where did you come up with that number? This isn't Twitter, you know?

I actually took a look at the last 30 posts from the "Recent Posts" section (excluding bounties, of course) and did a quick count. From this small sample, it seems that people tend to write around 500 characters per post on average. Surprisingly, there are only two posts with less than 200 characters, but on the flip side, there are four posts with over 800 characters. So, your assumption is completely off the mark.

And, enough with the whole "newbie shouldn't have an opinion" talk. Nobody here is dismissing your arguments just because you're new here. However, if you want to engage in a discussion and make strong points, it's important to back them up with some solid facts. That's what makes a discussion interesting and worthwhile.

Oh, sorry. I mean 200 words

Sorry, I'm still new here. and maybe I shouldn't give ideas and what I say is also not an important idea.

I see the logo on the left of the board and the subboard looks like a triangle. Would it be more interesting if it was changed? Like the BTC logo for bitcoin and other logo for another board and subboard. Can administrators do that?

Maybe it's not that important. But I think it's quite interesting to consider

It's not important and it's not worth considering I like the default SMF template it's clean so we can concentrate on the topics and discussion, the Admin even disables the ads so it will look clean and a topic-based forum.

All the other SMF forums create their own design to make them unique and their own but the Admin did not concentrate on design but more on functionalities like Merits, Trust systems, and so on.

If in future, the forum has its mobile application, I will not install it.

Mobile app would compromise the privacy of forum members. At the moment we ca use TOR to get complete privacy. The app can designed by integrating TOR some of the members can say that. Still it won't be as flawless as TOR browser. To view the forum on mobile devices is bit of a work. It is for the best of everyone here and me to use the forum on a laptop or a desktop.
You can use Tor browser to surf the forum together with capcha bypass code.

I implied more about security of your device, not about privacy, in my previous post. Many hacks can happen on your devices if you install too many applications, softwares like a senior Bitcoin developer Luke Jr.

Therefore, I would like to avoid as many installations on my devices as possible. About a forum application, texting on mobile is not my favorite.

Yes it would be an interesting gesture to put the bitcoin logo since this is the oldest bitcoin forum, the triangle sign is meaningless in my opinion so it would be appropriate to change it to the bitcoin logo.

Perhaps it would also be appropriate to change the Altcoin logo to the Ethereum logo to indicate that this is the Altcoin section and thus it becomes easier to distinguish between the Bitcoin and Altcoin sections.

Yes it's possible in fact other forums have done it to distinguish the categories

Image extracted from altcoinstalks.com

We are using the default SMF template and when you install the default theme the triangle is also included it's part of the trademark of the SMF.

I like this default template its the simplest template in the SMF theme collection, I find the widgets annoying and I can concentrate more on topics and discussion with the simplicity and clearness of the current theme, this is the primary purpose of a forum, simplicity and clean

I mean mostly just typing 100-200 characters
Even it is around 200 words, it is painful when you are typing on mobile. It is more painful if you need to trim quotes, add bullet points.

You can say it is needed in your view, and maybe some members will support it or oppose it but personally I see no need for mobile application. If in future, the forum has its mobile application, I will not install it.

But history says that those who can adapt will survive.
The forum adapts to necessary changes where possible, especially if it affects the current status of the forum.

You can keep track of the changes that have been made so far in this thread Bitcointalk's important historic changes
You will notice that a particular pattern of the kind of changes admin prioritizes on.

I think if there is an application then you are not prohibited from writing on the website. like Quora, it has an app and a web version. That Quora is a question and answer platform so answers can be more than 1,000 characters. In bitcointalk, we only write about 100-200 characters. The app also makes it simple to check notifications when you're outside

But for the mobile application, forget about it until maybe we see a new forum software

Quora, Reddit, many platforms but if it is a platform for text-based discussions, typing on mobile is painful.

that's true, but typing on the lapotop is not prohibited

Are you sure all posters limit themselves to 100 or 200 characters for each post?

Not all, but mostly yes

Depends on each person's need but don't let notifications ruin other more important things.

Not breaking, just updating

Safer or not, depend on how you use your laptop, PC and mobile devices but generally you are more easily to lose your mobile devices than losing your laptop.

That's right, but physically lost. For device security, it's the same

You misunderstood my post. I mean security of your device, whatever it is laptop, pc, mobile, will be in risk if you install too many softwares, applications. The less softwares, applications on your devices, the better, in security-wise.

I agree with you

Lots of questions have been raised about this, including different forum features, mobile version etc, but I think the Admins priorities are something else. Perhaps the security of the forum or something like that. This is why I am saying such flashy features might just be ignored.

I'm also not sure if this proposal will be accepted or considered. But history says that those who can adapt will survive.

This is just an opinion. It's also not appropriate for a newbie to talk a lot

It is not about smart phones but about inconvenience when you have to type text for your posts on smart phones, without key boards and with limited screen size. If you type a short post, it can be usable but if it is a long post, it becomes a problem.

Clearly, lengthy of a post does not automatically cause it zero, low or high quality.

Security of your device is another problem. If I have choice, I don't install many applications on my device. In addition, it can harm your privacy too as applications can trace your activities.

10 years ago, smartphones were already there  Wink

The fact that a new forum software which has taken lots of funds in BTC to be built from scratch and hasn't even shown any sign that we might use it any time soon. If I am not wrong, it has been under development for almost 10 years +

Another old and repeatedly question/ suggestion.

I think this only trick, not own app. or maybe theymos refuse to make an app for bitcointalk?

About an application, mobile application for bitcointalk forum, it is unnecessary in my opinion. Maybe young users will like applications as they can ask for applications everywhere.

I think in the future there will be more new users. Innovation needs to be done, or it will be abandoned

Old school guys might think different including me.
  • We don't need to install too many applications on our devices. First, waste of device resource. Second, it contains more risky security.
  • Most important, the forum is a text-based one for text discussions so I am not feel convenient when typing on my phones.

Some members in the community will complain that those new board icons make the forum like a circus. The forum is kind of for old school style and they don't like cartoons, animations and colorful things. I am not against your idea but with my experience here, I think it will not be supported by community.

It's not important and admins won't be ready to spend time doing this.

Yeah, maybe this is an unimportant suggestion. Old school impression is very visible. But seeing that times are changing, a new generation will grow, many websites have changed the user interface to make it more trendy.

If currency icons for altcoins are not considered and deployed officially, you would not expect your proposal will be approved.

The triangle like Icons are actually the New Posts and No New Posts icons. These are displayed to registered members to signify whether there have been any new posts made on the board since they last read it.
Blue triangle means there are new posts.
Greyed out triangle means there are no new posts

Damn, so all along it was a shortcut link. I honestly didn't pay much attention to that sign since I registered (I think a lot of other users did too) because yeah the display isn't that flashy. While I stand by the OP's request, I don't mind it being considered longer. I think it's better to make the board inside the sub-board more visible.

I've thought this before as well and it makes me curious if anyone has suggested this once before. The only reason I can think to keep it that way, would be as a contribution or tribute to SimpleMachines for powering the forum with their software...I wouldn't bet on that as there's already credit in the footer, but it's possible.

It would be a nice touch if it is implemented correctly. I support the idea!
