Reviving the dead here...just thought everyone on this thread that might see it should definitely be made aware of the TNABC Conference at McCormick place.  It's this weekend Saturday and Sunday, with a kickoff party hosted by BitPay at the House of Blues featuring the documentary The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin.  Hope to see everyone who can join us...and if you're hanging out on this forum, it'd be silly not to go.

Looks like April is already locked in for another speaker, so we're thinking May is the ideal month for us to get this on the ACM's calendar.

Please let me know if you're interested in being a speaker (we're up to three potentials, and edd would make a fourth).

Next steps include:

1) Send a bio to Sharan
2) Send an agenda
3) Send prepared remarks (if you want to put together a power point or something).
4) Nail down a date & show up in May (on a Wednesday) to present!

However, I think he's cool with people showing up and just talking, but please be prepared to talk for 15 minutes.

Then Q&A to follow.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

Anticipated Future Meeting Dates:

4-9-2014

OK, so February & March have past; I see April 9th as the next date available... let's come through for Sharan & get him a bitcoin meeting in Chicago!

I was about to volunteer but then remembered I'll be attending the conference in New York on the 7th and 8th and won't have the time.

Any other future dates likely?

Edd, thanks for your consideration!  Perhaps your flight home will lay over in chicago?  haha

I asked Sharan if April doesn't happen if we have future dates; I'll keep you posted.

I can speak about the legal side, but I would need more information about your target audience and target content.

Awesome, PM me your e-mail and/or phone number.

We'll be in touch.

Did you find your speakers?

Not yet.

A few maybes.

Also, not sure if I followed up here, but the event is open to the public, but they would like a $5 or $10 donation to their group for showing up.

I'll see if I can set their company up to accept bitcoins using Bitpay.  I assume they are a 501(c)(3) organization, so transaction fees would be waived... but I wouldn't hold my breath, haha.

I will come lurk in the shadows. Chicago's not too far

To be honest, I'm not sure if this event is open to the public.  I'll have to check.

Would you be willing to bring prepared remarks?

I'm still looking at the dates, but I've gone further for less and have some friends there that could use a visit.

Awesome, can you bring prepared remarks on technical, legal, or social aspects of bitcoin?  Just one of the three topics would be perfect!

Would I be able to show slides from me attending the LV conference?

Yesterday, I told my cross-dressing neighbor about what I wore in LV. He then let me hold his new AK-15. Through the scope, the star at the Star 34 Family Restaurant never looked so clear.

Bruno, you're always invited!

Do you know any others who would be able to join?

Hell, we could turn it into a micro-conference, with a dozen or two bitcoiners mingling with the crowd over and beyond the panel make-up.

Try to nail down a date, whereupon I take it from there--since you're probably not able to attend--and drum up support via the usual channels.

Note sure what I'll wear, but I'm leaning toward this:

Order of operations:

1) nail down 2-3 panelists

2) nail down date (which second Weds of Feb/Mar/Apr

3) Recruit the masses

4) educate!

Agreed, doubt I'll make it, but once we have enough panelists, I can connect them with Sharan; or you can.  Either way, I want to go to him with 2-3 names before I reach out to him again.

Are you confirmed as a panelist?  Would you say you're representing legal, social, or technical topics?

Also, do you want to bring a power point with 3-10 slides, or just show up & talk?  I think either is fine, but want to make sure I don't over commit, or under deliver.

Thanks!
