You could give a particular time for a round and if the player doesn't turn up even after one hour you can disqualify him/her .
Agreed and if people can’t make a time they can wait for the next tourny

Yes, the way i told is exactly what is done in ESL tournaments

Both of you well played and thanks for joining the tournament #1 (promo). You guys were a tough warrior, I hope you will be champion one day.

It is confirmed that tournament #2 will also be the promo, which is free same as the tournament #1. Follow!

Regarding the time issue, it is really a challenge for me to find a solution.
It will be easy to disqualify someone in free/promo tournaments if they don't respect the time.
But it will not be easy to disqualify someone in the main event (tournament with an entry fee) because they will pay a fee to join the tournament.

As you already noticed that, it doesn't take much time to play a match.
If all participants come online at a time then it may take 45mins to 1hr to end the tournament. And if only one participant delays then the whole tournament gets stopped... no movement!

In next tournament, I will fix battle joining time. Let us see how it goes.
For example, day 1 registration, day 2 battle day

Looking forward for the progress of this tournament, ill find time to re install Clash royale in my ipad since i have been deleted last year when i find the game boring comparing to clash of clans that im still playing righ now and mobile legends.

To Op pls continue updating ,maybe i will be joining soon.thanks

The tournament is running well with awesome participants. You can check the progress here > https://challonge.com/5cxyb0eb
Be ready for the next tournament.

But I changed the idea to the current tournament system because I thought members will not appreciate for two main reasons.
1. Participants will not get a second chance if they lose in the battle - they are simply knocked out!

Which is why you do a double elimination, and a best of 3.

~image~

I will study this format and will update the result soon.

I was studying the format today to learn more about it, and finally I have understood the format.

I also found an interesting thing to make a fixture of the tournament and people can also see the tournament progress live.

After discussing with my brother, who is also a co-manager, we decided to go with this tournament format - double elimination.

Because this tournament format solves two things.
1. Can start a tournament with as low as 8 participants - instead of 49 in league format or 32 in knockout format.
2. Participants will get second chance to fight back -  whereas knockout format doesn't allow

We can increase the participants if we see demand for this tournament in future.

The prize distribution I'm thinking, 50% for the champion, 30% for the runner-up, 20% for the third place.

The entry fee will be BTC0.002 and prize pool will be BTC0.014 <<< if anyone has any objection let me know.

Planning to host the first test tournament (FREE TO JOIN) tomorrow at 7-9pm UTC time / Forum time / GMT +0

I will update this thread soon.

I will mention all three format in OP so that interested members can know all the possible formats.

1. League format: Battle to earn trophies to gain your position 1-10 in the leaderboard.
2. Knock-out format: Losers goes home, winners climb the ladder to win the champion title. NO MERCY!
3. Double Elimination: It's merciful, losers get a second chance to fight back and win the champion title.

Three of the format has its own upsides and downsides. Maybe we will run different format in different time to know the participants perspective.

Thanks to DarkStar for introducing double-elimination tournament format.

I'm thinking to host the first test tournament (Free to JOIN) on Sunday.
I picked Sunday because it is an international holiday, but not surely saying because I see on Sunday the forum is not that much active.

I'm undecided! I feel that Sunday will be the perfect time to start the tournament, on the other hand, I also feel on Sunday the forum is not much active.

Any Suggestion?

I think we should have voting poll here to know when is the most comfortable time and day for everyone who wants to join. I agree Sunday will have some conflict some are away for vacation.

Is there any level require to be eligible?

I think this is a good format, you should be thankful to DarkStar_ for helping you find the appropriate chart which would be very suitable for use on the competition system chart that you will do

I think it would be much more interesting if you did like a double elimination BO3 bracket, kinda like how CCGS worked. Clash Royale's in game tournaments are pretty lacking in my opinion, and not too many people would like to sit playing for 1 hours straight. I'd probably play some sort of bracket, but I don't want to play a full 1 hours (might just be my opinion though). A problem does arise with a bracket though, as people have to agree to a time to fight, but having ran a clan-wide bracket in the past in an international clan, it's not too hard. If you can't find enough participants, a round robin might also be interesting and would work with any (low-ish) number of participants.

Remember the first discussion thread I created some time ago? At that time the first idea I had in my mind was to organize a knock-out clash royale tournament. Something like the table below.

But I changed the idea to the current tournament system because I thought members will not appreciate for two main reasons.
1. Participants will not get a second chance if they lose in the battle - they are simply knocked out!
2. The distribution of prize was limited to 4 winners only in the knockout tournament - Champion, Runner-up, and the 2 semi-finalist eliminators.

The main reason to do the current tournament version is that,
1. It has the option to distribute prize to 10 participants. Participants will get more chance to be a winner.
2. Participants will get many chances in one hour battle time to fight back to gain a position from 1-10 to win a prize.

The only downside the current tournament version has the time and I'm aware of it.
The knockout version will have the same issue "TIME", but there will be a plus point though, we can follow the participants because they will join a clan.

If the community likes the knockout version then I don't have any problem to organize that.
Regarding the time issue, I will announce a time when all participants must come online to participate in the 1vs1 battle. So those who will be able to come online at that time will only join the tournament.

Clash Royale tournament has a 2hrs prep time and 1hr battle time. This goes for the tournament I announced.
But the knockout version will not have anything like it. If the two participants are online then they can start the battle without any delay and we all can watch live.

In the tournament joining thread (for the current version), I can place a countdown timer so that the participants can know when the battle will start and can decide if they can come online or not at that time. If their answer is yes then they can register for the tournament.

Push with your preferred day and just adjust dates if there's a request from the players who really will apply and not just giving you a suggestion. Those are the only one you can talked about dates and not some random comments about what is the best day.

The first challenge here is finding a participants because rules, schedules, rewards etc. are quiet easy to handle if there's enough players who really wants to joined. Push your first plan without a doubt then just changed some of the terms while there are players joining the tournament.
