You could give a particular time for a round and if the player doesn't turn up even after one hour you can disqualify him/her .
Agreed and if people can’t make a time they can wait for the next tourny

Yes, the way i told is exactly what is done in ESL tournaments

Both of you well played and thanks for joining the tournament #1 (promo). You guys were a tough warrior, I hope you will be champion one day.

It is confirmed that tournament #2 will also be the promo, which is free same as the tournament #1. Follow!

Regarding the time issue, it is really a challenge for me to find a solution.
It will be easy to disqualify someone in free/promo tournaments if they don't respect the time.
But it will not be easy to disqualify someone in the main event (tournament with an entry fee) because they will pay a fee to join the tournament.

As you already noticed that, it doesn't take much time to play a match.
If all participants come online at a time then it may take 45mins to 1hr to end the tournament. And if only one participant delays then the whole tournament gets stopped... no movement!

In next tournament, I will fix battle joining time. Let us see how it goes.
For example, day 1 registration, day 2 battle day

Looking forward for the progress of this tournament, ill find time to re install Clash royale in my ipad since i have been deleted last year when i find the game boring comparing to clash of clans that im still playing righ now and mobile legends.

To Op pls continue updating ,maybe i will be joining soon.thanks

The tournament is running well with awesome participants. You can check the progress here > https://challonge.com/5cxyb0eb
Be ready for the next tournament.

But I changed the idea to the current tournament system because I thought members will not appreciate for two main reasons.
1. Participants will not get a second chance if they lose in the battle - they are simply knocked out!

Which is why you do a double elimination, and a best of 3.

~image~

I will study this format and will update the result soon.

I was studying the format today to learn more about it, and finally I have understood the format.

I also found an interesting thing to make a fixture of the tournament and people can also see the tournament progress live.

After discussing with my brother, who is also a co-manager, we decided to go with this tournament format - double elimination.

Because this tournament format solves two things.
1. Can start a tournament with as low as 8 participants - instead of 49 in league format or 32 in knockout format.
2. Participants will get second chance to fight back -  whereas knockout format doesn't allow

We can increase the participants if we see demand for this tournament in future.

The prize distribution I'm thinking, 50% for the champion, 30% for the runner-up, 20% for the third place.

The entry fee will be BTC0.002 and prize pool will be BTC0.014 <<< if anyone has any objection let me know.

Planning to host the first test tournament (FREE TO JOIN) tomorrow at 7-9pm UTC time / Forum time / GMT +0

I will update this thread soon.

I will mention all three format in OP so that interested members can know all the possible formats.

1. League format: Battle to earn trophies to gain your position 1-10 in the leaderboard.
2. Knock-out format: Losers goes home, winners climb the ladder to win the champion title. NO MERCY!
3. Double Elimination: It's merciful, losers get a second chance to fight back and win the champion title.

Three of the format has its own upsides and downsides. Maybe we will run different format in different time to know the participants perspective.

Thanks to DarkStar for introducing double-elimination tournament format.

I'm thinking to host the first test tournament (Free to JOIN) on Sunday.
I picked Sunday because it is an international holiday, but not surely saying because I see on Sunday the forum is not that much active.

I'm undecided! I feel that Sunday will be the perfect time to start the tournament, on the other hand, I also feel on Sunday the forum is not much active.

Any Suggestion?

I think we should have voting poll here to know when is the most comfortable time and day for everyone who wants to join. I agree Sunday will have some conflict some are away for vacation.

Is there any level require to be eligible?

I think it would be much more interesting if you did like a double elimination BO3 bracket, kinda like how CCGS worked. Clash Royale's in game tournaments are pretty lacking in my opinion, and not too many people would like to sit playing for 1 hours straight. I'd probably play some sort of bracket, but I don't want to play a full 1 hours (might just be my opinion though). A problem does arise with a bracket though, as people have to agree to a time to fight, but having ran a clan-wide bracket in the past in an international clan, it's not too hard. If you can't find enough participants, a round robin might also be interesting and would work with any (low-ish) number of participants.

Remember the first discussion thread I created some time ago? At that time the first idea I had in my mind was to organize a knock-out clash royale tournament. Something like the table below.

But I changed the idea to the current tournament system because I thought members will not appreciate for two main reasons.
1. Participants will not get a second chance if they lose in the battle - they are simply knocked out!
2. The distribution of prize was limited to 4 winners only in the knockout tournament - Champion, Runner-up, and the 2 semi-finalist eliminators.

The main reason to do the current tournament version is that,
1. It has the option to distribute prize to 10 participants. Participants will get more chance to be a winner.
2. Participants will get many chances in one hour battle time to fight back to gain a position from 1-10 to win a prize.

The only downside the current tournament version has the time and I'm aware of it.
The knockout version will have the same issue "TIME", but there will be a plus point though, we can follow the participants because they will join a clan.

If the community likes the knockout version then I don't have any problem to organize that.
Regarding the time issue, I will announce a time when all participants must come online to participate in the 1vs1 battle. So those who will be able to come online at that time will only join the tournament.

Clash Royale tournament has a 2hrs prep time and 1hr battle time. This goes for the tournament I announced.
But the knockout version will not have anything like it. If the two participants are online then they can start the battle without any delay and we all can watch live.

In the tournament joining thread (for the current version), I can place a countdown timer so that the participants can know when the battle will start and can decide if they can come online or not at that time. If their answer is yes then they can register for the tournament.

Push with your preferred day and just adjust dates if there's a request from the players who really will apply and not just giving you a suggestion. Those are the only one you can talked about dates and not some random comments about what is the best day.

The first challenge here is finding a participants because rules, schedules, rewards etc. are quiet easy to handle if there's enough players who really wants to joined. Push your first plan without a doubt then just changed some of the terms while there are players joining the tournament.

I suggest that you take the time on Friday there at the time of entering at 01:00 pm forum time, because that time is a very active time in this forum, which means many people are active there at that time

Noted!

Looking for some more opinions to host the tournament on Friday.

While I like your idea I think you should update your last link where people wanted to have something like this. Secondly who's going to escrow the funds, are you a participant and a escrow? For fair purpose of the game I would restrict this to members and above so one person can't have alts. The main concern I have how will people coordinate time zone, there can be emergency situations and so on. While the concept is nice I'll watch from spectators view. Good luck op and to the participants.

The link to the previous discussion thread updated in OP. You had also posted in the previous discussion thread with the same escrow concern.
The previous discussion was positive, just some members have shown concern about the escrow - and I told them that if needed I will use escrow.

If we use escrow then the cost will increase and prize pool will decrease. So that's why I didn't mention about escrow, and I wanted to handle everything by myself.
What I tried is to lower the cost and increase the prize pool. But I don't have any problem to use escrow if the community wants, the cost and prize pool will be amended.

Why trust me - Logic
I'm a very active member of bitcontalk for 2.3yrs now and I'm earning very good money with my account per month.
How do you guys think I will scam BTC0.098 = $912 ?? Why I will spoil my career and my account for just BTC0.098 = $912, whereas I can earn more with my account month after month, year after year?
Don't you know if someone gets a negative trust then he can't do anything in this forum? If I scam BTC0.098 = $912 then it will be my last income and I have to say goodbye to the forum and community forever.

I'm well aware of the scam phobia of this forum - still I gave my logic why you should trust me - if the community doesn't trust me then I can use escrow.

I'm not a participant in the tournament, I am the host.
But when I will create the tournament, by default I will be on the participant's list. So that's why I included a term for this.

There is no need to restrict members. Members can't handle multiple accounts by participating in a single tournament, they can't play with their two hands at a time. Most probably they will lose in both accounts.
Moreover, I will do marketing about this tournament outside this forum. So there might be some new accounts registration just to join the tournament.

As we are just at the beginning stage, I don't think we will be able to organize 2-3 tournaments a day. I think Max 1 tournament can be organized in a day or two or more.  Roll Eyes
TimeZone is really a concern, I can't do anything special here. There will be a specific time when I will start the tournament, so those who are available can only join.
If the demand grows, then I can host multiple tournaments in a day in different time zones. Regarding your emergency concern, I can't do anything about it and that's why I already included a term for this.

Nice idea. As a gaming enthusiasts, this will be really good.

But from my point of view, It's kinda difficult to have a 49 participants that all will came here. There are really lots of Clash Royale players but in terms of today's status, the hype is not that much and I doubt we have even 10 or 15 players here that will meet the minimum requirements. You must advertised and opened it to other forums as well. I opened once a Mobile Legend thread here back then (but it stopped due to my busy schedule) and we are planning to make a tournament too. But for a start we do some team against team match with a prize pool to test who is interested. You may also consider that if you like. Well just a suggestion. Smiley

Goodluck for the game and just trust your process. I may joined too if ever.
Thank you!
I will host 1 or 2 tournaments paying the prize from my pocket. After that, I will be able to evaluate the situation more deeply and can amend wherever necessary.
Yes, I'm also thinking to promote outside this forum to get more participants. But I will do it after some time - at first, I want to know the perspective of bitcointalk community because this is the thing I care most.

I will also offer a team vs team game in near future with another online game site (not clash royale), but before that I have to set this tournament first.

Unfortunately, I have never played Clash of Royale. But I am sure if this were Lords Mobile, I would have participated. Added to that, I can download it and reach level 8 in a short time. But I need to know about the basics and how exactly this game is all about. In Lords Mobile, I am at level 25 and have 14m of might. It should have been around 30m, but I have been busy. So, please, next time make a tournament of Lords Mobile.
I love games and I play when I get some leisure time in a day. I feel relaxed when I play games. I regularly play Clash of clans and Clash Royale -  I like both of the games very much.
I never played Lords Mobile, but I will check it. Just play Clash Royale and you will get used to it. Tournament & game rules can be found in OP.

escrow is needed for this event. this is a great event, which may be very attractive to game players. therefore I strongly recommend for this event to use escrow in order to be more in trust.
hopefully this is successful

Tournament Format has changed. I will update the original post soon. Currently we are offering double-elimination tournament.

Hello everyone. I opened a thread couple of months back where I talked about organizing a player-vs-player tournament here in this forum (Previous Discussion Thread). The bitcointalk community had mixed reactions about it, mostly positive, and I have decided to go through with the idea.

Initially, I had two types of game in my mind which can be played one-on-one but I could not choose because there are complications in organizing one of the two. So now I have planned it all out how to do it. The game which I chose is Clash Royale. As we all know it is one of the most-played tournaments in the world, with 100 million downloads in Android alone and I am 100% sure that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of Clash Royale fans in this forum. So why not play a little game and have fun and blow off the steam with a chance to win BTC in the process?

The reason to post an announcement thread is that I did not announce the name of the game before which did not allow the community to have a discussion about the idea. Now we can have a detailed discussion about the requirements, rules, and regulations, etc.

Apart from all of this, as this idea is new and also because of the community's acceptance, I have decided to host one or two tournaments with the prize pool given from my own pocket. Another reason for organizing a free tournament is because the players need to understand the rules and regulations and also get accustomed to the way the tournament will take place.

All you have to do is register and play for Bitcoin. But after that, there will be an entry fee to participate in the tournament.

Tournament rules will be updated as the tournament moves on. I have the right to change, modify the rules if and when needed.

This is not a tournament joining thread. Tournament joining thread will be created in gambling board. This thread will only be used to discuss this tournament.
The tournament cannot succeed until the community supports - Please provide your suggestion if you liked the idea.

Note
The free tournament will have a prize pool of BTC0.01 and will have the same rules as paid tournament.
But I'm still confused on how many winners I should consider, whether it is 3, 5, or 10 and distribute the prize pool to the winners.

If I choose 3 winners, the possible prize distribution could be BTC0.005, BTC0.003, BTC0.002
If I choose 5 winners, the prize could be BTC0.002 each
If 10 winners, then BTC0.001 each

If you have a suggestion then please share with me.
