Can someone show me the math on how to calculate the fee's I'm paying here? I know it is %3, but I want to know how much I've actually given to The Guild over the amount of time I have been here. Of course it isn't one of our charts.

Total Earnings / 0.97 = Amount you've made before fees.  Difference is the fee.

I was looking for that difference I guess. When I see 1 bitcoin in my dashboard does that mean you already have .3 of it?

Ok, that's easy enough. And the pool operator gets %3 of every block we find which is 25 BTC at the moment. That is approx $18k USD. Operator brings in about $540 for every block and how many blocks does the pool solve in a day? Trust me, not good at math at all, am I correct in trying to figure out how much the pool owner makes? Let's say it takes 10 minutes to solve each block, (usually is 4 minutes) but giving a big buffer here. So 6 blocks solved each hour, 6*24 = 144 blocks solved each day. 144 * $540 = $77k. I must be doing something wrong. Can a math genius help on this? I'm just curious to know how much a pool operator makes if %3 is the cut. I'm only asking here cause I mine on this pool and there is a fee. I probably fumbled the math big time, so I do apologize if it is not correct. I do expect it to be wrong, cause $77k seems way too high.

Thank you

6 blocks each hour is for the whole network.
For the pool only just calculate 3% out of the total pool speed = 3% * 2700TH/s = 80TH/s
So 80TH/s is around 28 btc per day at current difficulty. But because there are people using PPS, it is more than 30btc a day.
Now imagine what it was 2 difficulty retargets ago. Probably around 50btc a day Wink

If you have earned 1 BTC, then I have made 0.03 BTC(ish, orphans screw that up a little since I pay you for those and end up losing a block worth of coins).  So you're off by a factor of 10 there.

The entire network solves 144 blocks a day, not BTC Guild.  BTC Guild is only about 25% of the network.  Additionally, BTC Guild pays orphans which means while I keep 3% of each block, about 1% ends up going back to the users when the pool has an orphaned block.   When the network is growing, it's a bit more than 144 blocks/day.  BTC Guild has to grow at the same percentage as the network in order to maintain a 25% share.

Would you pay 8 BTC for 2 months of mining?
...
7% = 4TH/s

So not very big.

What is this calculation in regards to?

I spoke with eleuthria and the local math wizard organofcorti and they both confirmed there is no easy way to precisely confirm the pool luck, which is a deal braker for me.

Switch to PPS and you don't have to deal with luck. Period.

(My preferred way is to put 3/4 workers on PPLNS and 1/4 workers on PPS)

Would you pay 8 BTC for 2 months of mining? I know I would not, because no part of the service provides value worth $6000 at the current exchange rates.
I am currently paying 1% and if you ask me even that is too much.

Maybe you should be solo mining instead of complaining?

M

I am not complaining, but expressing my point of view.
I would be complaining if I had no choice, which is not the case here Wink
And don't get me wrong: BTCGuild is a nice pool with good features and design. I would be most definitely mining here if it wasn't for the high fees, which in my opinion are completely unjustified.
And I fully understand the owner: why change something that is working and is making you a s**t load of money  Grin
Just make sure you don't turn into another DeepBit: it was once the #1 pool and it even managed to go beyond 50% network share at one point, but look where it is now.

Is Btcguild still the largest pool or ghash now is on pair ?
No, Ghash is the biggest. Atm 3.66PH/s vs 2.7PH/s which makes sense as Ghash.io is free + you merge mine 3 alt coins there.

I think I meant to say speed issues and not connection issues. Previously my hash rate would be at a 550-560 according to my dashboard and now it is at a 520-530. Nothing has changed on my end and my miner stats are good. Low error rates, going full steam on my end. I've seen my hash rate drop, but it it has always gone back  up.  This time it has just stayed lower and not gone back up. I've tried rebooting my rig, router, everything....can't get the speeds I use to get for some reason. So for me to think it could be something with the pool is only logical. I'm speaking in terms of weeks here, not days.

Ditto Eleuthria.  Happy New Year!  BTC Guild was my first experience in mining and I must say it has been pleasant and pain free.  This is the best place to put your hashes.

I think the pool operator needs to hire someone to help him out. I also have been experiecing some connection issues myself. Take some of those fees you take from us and hire an expert for some contracting work. Make them sign a disclosure agreement and just get everything back up and running %100 again. You don't use the free service of cloudflare, do you? I hope  you at least have CloudFlare business. Anything less doesn't have any protection really.

Shifts have been taking roughly the same time for the last 24 hours.  That would confirm my own observations:  The servers are not having problems.

If any servers are misbehaving, it's the ones whose sole purpose is trying to differentiate DDoS and Botnet traffic from legit miners.  Those servers are only encountered when you first start mining or restart.  If you have been mining consistently, there have been no problems.  If you're having problems involving disconnections, they're on your end.

I think he's doing just fine.  Be patient.  If you don't like it, go elsewhere.  Then you'll appreciate how good you had it here.

Rewards are back to being applied within 1 minute of the block solve.  Since the NMC chains have not frozen up since the initial hardfork, I believe whatever caused the original problem was an isolated incident.  This coincidentally would have prevented the above problem from ever happening, although the fix to that script will remain in place so if the delay has to be re-implemented it will not cause a block to miss the being credited.

Doing a rescan of the bitcoind transaction list to make sure no other blocks are missing.  This was caused because the script which polls bitcoind for block solves does so by getting a (fairly large) list of transactions and checking for generation transactions.  This block was solved near the X:57 auto payouts, which were recently increased to handle over 200 payouts in one sweep.  As a result it pushed the generation transaction out of that list.

UPDATE:  This was the only one found.  I've updated the script to now search back for the last 1,000 transactions so it can't be repeated.  Not that it matters much, the real reason this happened is the delay in showing blocks until the blockchain has increased by one due to the NMC bug.  That hotfix will be turned off this evening since the NMC blockchain freeze has not reoccurred.
