eleuthria .. instead of shutting down the pool can you just ban people from new york from using the pool if the regulations in new york pass ?? it's new york! the place that wants to tell everyone how big a soda they can drink and tell everyone they cannot have more than one weeks worth of food and supplies stored or be considered a home grown terrorist. maybe banning them from bitcoin pools will help people realize that new york is not a good place to live nor start a bitcoin business.

3D Printed!
And so it begins.  New York regulators are now proposing things which would make it essentially illegal for anybody to use Bitcoin in that state without being registered. It is so over-reaching that it would even catch things like the Bitcoin tipbot on reddit, which would be an illegally operating entity if it allows you to tip a New York resident.

http://www.dfs.ny.gov/about/press2014/pr1407171-vc.pdf
I've read several articles about this proposal and most of them seem to give the same quote, that merchant and consumers using bitcoin strictly for the sale of Goods and Services are exempt. I view the fact that you collect a 2% fee for providing me the service of access to bitcoin mining software and a service of reasonable security protection from online attackers, makes you a simple merchant and 'us' the consumers of your service. Therefore "We" are not subject to the SDN verification as well as State Licensing. Though you may want to tweak the support page to make it clear 'You are only providing a Service and are not a Bank, Loan Agent, or Monetary Transfer Provider'.

A mining pool is not just buying hashpower and paying in units of a virtual currency, it is using that hashpower to create units of a virtual currency.
It can't sensibly be argued to be the same as a retailer accepting payments for goods.

Actually, we don't CREATE units of virtual currency...we FIND "BLOCKS" hidden in code...so essentially, the "mining pool" is a digital-treasure hunting club.

Thanks for posting the news on the pool page. I was unaware of this until I checked my BTCGuild dashboard today. I mine on Slush, which is located in Czech Republic and use BTCGuild as my #2 pool.

As far as those who migrate to Ghash.io...I have been mining Slush for quite some-time and I tried Ghash.io (and a few other pools) but I found Ghash.io less friendly towards small farms/mines as my payouts were less than what I should have expected. Sure the smaller pools may have short dry spells but on avg. I earn about ~5-10% more with Slush and the smaller pools than I would on Ghash. Of course I don't have >10 Th/s either.

Very true.
It is fun to speculate and jump for joy at lots of blocks and do the Bitcoin Rain Dance during the droughts.  Grin

The problem is that short lucky rounds by nature are, uh, short. While long unlucky rounds are long. So even if luck was perfectly 100% on average, you spend more time overall by far on the long unlucky blocks and all users do is notice those blocks. ..

I did.  I loved it.
We had a great run.  It was epic.  Grin

Oh my god someone please do the "Make it Rain Bitcoin Dance" again.  I hate variance.
Still glad we have BTCG though.  I know others have it worse.

You don't like the obscene luck spike followed by 2 long blocks?  Kinda sad nobody posted yesterday during that run Sad.

I use 256 and have no issues. They run nice.  I am finishing a review on it now.

So 1024 in the miner and on worker page of the pool guarantees no issues outside of a problem with the pool or the miner. That said, am I correct with the worker setting of 128 for my Prospector200 machine since the next jump up is 256 for 256Gh + ?

Yes, 1024 for a dragon is the recommended setting, and should guarantee proper results while mining without any weird stats popping up.  I'm not familiar with the prospector 200, but if it's under 250 GH/s, then 128 is the recommended setting, yes.

However, as far as I'm aware, the only ASIC where the setting *can* cause a problem is the Dragon Miners.  Anything else is just a recommendation, it should have no material effects on other hardware.
Hey Michael, Do you know if the BTCGarden machines have dif issues like the dragons ?

I've run my two btcgarden machines on the guild with no issues at 512, though they point at p2pool for now.

So I don't think they have the issue the dragons have
512 a piece ? Thats a hell of a jump from the stated 310 lol.

He's talking about difficulty setting...
I just woke up when I posted that lol but the dif makes more sense lol

Although worth noting they do run at 330ghs and stable when clocked to 330mhz. Power consumption goes up about 40 watts which isn't that awful for a 30gh gain.

but yes, with regards to the 512, I was talking about the diff setting for the pair together.
What was stock speed on yours when you set them up and let em run for a while ?

Sorry, but my experience with ASICs outside of Avalon (batch 1 & 2), BE Blades and USB Erupters is pretty much limited to anecdotes and observations.  As such, the only one I *know* has the issues with difficulty are Dragon Miners, but that doesn't mean others might not have similar problems.
Just figured I'd ask even though the only diff min setting is 256 since the next one up is 512 and the machines are rated 310Gh/s.
