Bitmain and the AntPool just pushed 4.8 ph/s to the network as well.
At least ghash is a bit lower.

Anger is a gift.
Only 2 blocks out of the 20 we have found in the last 24 hours were at 94.6% luck. Do I need to start doing my block dance? I will. It is not pretty, but I will do it.

I agree.  I definitely and not fretting. It is interesting to see it how it all goes up and down and how changes in composition of mining gear affects it all as well.
Bitmain is about to change the landscape again.

With our luck the last 24 or so hours it would feel like variance is trying to murder us though.   Undecided

I keep watching the blocks and muttering obscenities, but actually our 7 day luck is above average still. So no need to fret.

Are people really that cheap that they won't pay 2% fees (or whatever it is now)?! For many people it's just pennies a day. I just don't get it.

When it's pennies per day yes it's a dumb move, but unfortunately the larger the operation the more that 2% starts to be a significant factor.

I expect that the recent huge growth at ghash.io isn't a result of people with a couple of antminers, it's BIG farms with hundreds of TH or even in the PH range.

People with farms that big generally don't stick on ghash.io for long.  Their uptime isn't great and they have non-existant support.  Even today, pool downtime can cause a lot more damage than it looks on paper due to reconnection/failover sometimes not working as expected.  If 1% of the time a pool outage causes a miner to stop working, that's a lot of time spent fixing miners in large farms.

Yeah I have a measly 300GH/s now so I was interested to see how reliable they were.  I tried them for 4 days and had 4 episodes where my hashrate either dropped to 0 or had hiccups dropping average to 180.  I also got a lot of stale shares - but that could be just me since everybody has different internet connections and hops.  I made about 94% of projected earnings overall - I couldn't figure out my luck other than counting the number of solved blocks/day and seeing if it went up or down, but that is inaccurate because the hashrate varied.

Overall I wasn't impressed.  Obviously some people have different experiences or just don't care.

Greed stops that from happening.
I know people who literally do not care about the network or the mining community and sit at ghash for the zero fees.
When I had one turn his miners to BTCG for a few days he made more on average than ghash due to no down time and variance leveling out.  He still took it all bad to ghash because he is convinced they are better than any other pool and he could care less if Bitcoin became centralized.

Shouldn't people with large farms solo-mine or at least join a small pool like Slush?  Or even  spread the work on different pools.

I am not playing this game nearly as long as many here but I have managed to get myself into the sub 500 zone in the rankings with 2.5Ths. I've tried most of the big pools except ghash and have even taken a (blind) stab at solo mining. I came back to guild after a short break and honestly I have no idea what Eleuthria does but I have had better, more consistent earnings with guild than any place else. The other amazing thing is that my earnings haven't dropped off anywhere near what they projected to. I am getting almost the same daily amount through the last four difficulty increases, which shouldn't even be possible.
Looks like we are all in for a hard slap in the face with the coming jump but hopefully we can get some S3's not too long after and catch back up!

Seriously, I don't understand why people bother with other pools. GHash is evil and Eligius has nothing but stability and payout issues. BTCGuild is by far the most stable and reliable pool.

To a lot of users who never have had any form of investment all they can see through their little tunnel vision is how many BTC are showing up in their wallet.  They don't care what happens to the price or what the community thinks - just how can I get the max number of BTC.  If Ghash.IO offered to pay 101% if people would mail them cats and dogs for ritualistic sacrifice I'm sure they would receive at least 1000 pets.

I doubt many old-timers with major BTC holdings would be mining there.

Don't complain.  The faster the pool gets back to neutral for 3 month period (yes I know we were scammed with the withholder) the more likely people are to leave Ghash.IO. Sadly the withholder coincided with people flocking over there.... I'm sure Bitpop would see it as a concerted attack though Tongue

There's rumor going round that the 1 Ph/s user could be S3 units in testing but who knows.

The 1 PH/s user has been around for a lot longer.  They were 700 TH - 1PH/s+ for the last couple months.

3D Printed!
What's happening with the PPLNS stats page?  The 1+PH/s user has disappeared, but so have their stats.  They still found the most blocks, even if they're no longer contributing to the pool.

The 1 PH/s user is either having major issues, or has left the pool (haven't been able to identify their speed on a pool that gives public user stats).

maybe they actually now have no issues at all and feel comfortable that they can pull in revenue on their own solo mining instead of off our backs in the pools.
