I don't think I got screwed, but I think I did lose out on potential coins mined by joining this pool. Can someone please explain to me what happened?

I joined about 5-6 days ago, had it set to PPLNS which I believe starts paying out after you have mined for at least 10 shifts, and pays out one shift with each block found after you have mined for at least 10. I believe that since the pool shut down that means that all my shifts in the queue to be paid besides the one that counted in the last block were never paid, and will never be paid because that is how PPLNS works and it protects the pool operator. I feel like I got screwed because of the unpaid shifts, but I think this actually makes sense, can someone please confirm if this is correct. Thanks.

Essentially correct. In simplified terms, PPS pays you for each share of work you submit minus fee's.  PPLNS pays out  an average of your shares over time whenever the pool solves a block.

So yes, if you were PPLNS, the time spend ramping up building your PPLNS shifts, and the shares of work performed after the last block was solved by the pool were lost.

Cheers.

Thanks for confirming that. I thought that was the risk of using PPLNS and it looks like it got me this time. Sad Still it was a great pool, I wish Giga had the time to run it at the quality level he had going.

Are you going to notify all your users by email that they need to request withdrawal?

I have done one better. I have set every accounts withdrawal amount to the lowest possible amount and ran the background process to create payment requests for any balance.

This has resulted in clearing out all remaining payments. Proof of the payments is below.

Thanks. Couldn't ask for more.

I'm still a little pissed that I didn't get an email prior to the mining servers being shutdown, especially since I didn't even get the expected idle worker notifications.

You are correct that I should have notified users before the mining servers went offline. It was wrong of me to assume that miners keep backup pools configured.

Other than that, I do want to thank you for running a reliable and trustworthy pool while it lasted.

You are welcome.

Less than a week's notice after the forum was unavailable for almost 2 days straight?  I certainly hope you give your users at least until the end of December.  I wouldn't even dream of trying to shutdown my pool without giving users 6-12 months of time.

We'll see how many stragglers there are. The pool has a limited users base because of restricted registrations.

None the less, I am not trying to keep anyone's coins. The hot wallet is funded to fulfill every last satoshi that is owed.

Are you going to notify all your users by email that they need to request withdrawal? You shouldn't assume that everyone monitors this thread on this forum. I'm still a little pissed that I didn't get an email prior to the mining servers being shutdown, especially since I didn't even get the expected idle worker notifications. I wonder how many other users were relying on those to alert them to problems.

Other than that, I do want to thank you for running a reliable and trustworthy pool while it lasted.

This pool was the best.  If you decide to do another public pool, I'll be there with my KnC rigs.

+1. Features, performance, stability were all excellent and among the best pools in the industry. Here's hoping that someone else takes what has been created and keeps it going.

I agree as well. One of the best pools I've had the pleasure of mining on, and I certainly hope it will continue at some point in the future, even if it is under different management.
Just requested my final payout.

Hi James

Are you able to share if the shutdown was due to a hack/theft like picostock/50btc ?

The shutdown of the pool is more due to my worrying about the pool than anything else. I want to provide the BEST pool possible, and in its current state, that is not possible.

To be clear, no coins have EVER been stolen from the pool nor is the shutdown due to any hacking attempts. I am very proud of the security measures used to make sure coins were safe.

There are not many pools around that can say this.

Withdrawals are ready

All of the updated data is live on the site. Please be aware that if you had a payment request before now, it needed to be deleted to rework what shifts where paid for the recent blocks.

Please log into your account, review your reward history and request a final payment under Dashboard -> Payments.

We are loading the hot wallet to pay 100% of all outstanding balances.

You have until Friday to request you final withdrawal. All coins left will be considered donations to the pool.  Tongue

Out of all the pools I have joined, this was definitely the best pool I have ever mined at. Unfortunately the variance started getting me worried and I had to move some of my hashing power elsewhere a few weeks ago. Thanks for everything James! Was an awesome pool while it lasted! I even learned some python and API stuff here to create some scripts!  Grin
