I will abandon coinbase at my first opportunity, but right now their instant purchases win the day.  That is risky for them to allow with chargeback and stop-payments.

As far as I know there are a lot of verification steps. You first have to buy or sell btc and wait for 30 days. Verify a phone, bank, cc and you ss number.

You no longer need to wait 30 days for this 1 btc/week option.

Really? I am not able to buy/sell instantly, and I have had my account for about 6 months.

It was just added. You must verify your account, add a credit card and add a bank account.

I have done everything except for verify your identity which requires ssn.

Thanks zeetu!  Grin

I finally was able to buy some btc from Coinbase with the instant buy. The last several tries, I've been unsuccessful due to "high-risk".

I believe the high risk flag is almost unfairly used, this has happened to myself on a under of occasions when bitcoin fluctuation are in fact not that bad. But who knows, clearly companies such as coinbase need to protect themselves.

So I guess the instant 1 Bitcoin doesn't apply since you bought it a week ago?

meh, I bought less than 1 BTC about 7 days ago, still pending until tomorrow.  UNACCEPTABLE imo. They got my money from my bank with 2 days though...convenient for them.

That's not a bad system. I used Virwox to get my feet in the water, but obviously for something like an entire coin I'd need to look elsewhere, as Virwox limits you to something like half of a coin per month.

Are there any exchanges that allow USD deposits from paypal? I know of a couple that allow withdrawal to paypal but do not allow deposits. I'll be looking out but it seems like the OP had an easy way to get started with a coin.

I guessing that this is still only available for American banks?

I believe so. ACH transfers are a US thing I believe.
