Well, I just wanted to thank you for posting this; I have transferred my small amount of funds (I just found) from my coinbase account. And I also found the app on my phone that required an update, and when I logged in, it was into another account I had set up from my phone with another 0.1BTC in it. Your bringing this to my attention has turned out good for me lol

Soooo, sardasa, which wallet service are you using now? I've imported my keys into Blockchain, personally... You?

There are 'n' number of exchanges & apps which can be used to keep bitcoin now.
You can chose whichever you want based on your requirements.

I'm interested in knowing this as well. Sardasa said that he had a lot of alternatives to choose from, from my experience though coinbase is probably still the easiest to use, although it might not be the most competitive in pricing. If you are only storing bitcoin then use blockchain.info, but if you have some USD as well then probably circle.

Express written consent and approval from Coinbase must be obtained prior to using Coinbase Services for the following categories of business and/or use ("Conditional Uses"). Consent may be requested by contacting [email protected]. Coinbase may also require you to agree to additional conditions, make supplemental representations and warranties, complete enhanced on-boarding procedures, and operate subject to restrictions if you use Coinbase Services in connection with any of following businesses, activities, or practices:

Money Services: Money transmitters, Digital Currency transmitters; currency or Digital Currency exchanges or dealers; gift cards; prepaid cards; sale of in-game currency unless the merchant is the operator of the virtual world; act as a payment intermediary or aggregator or otherwise resell any of the Coinbase Services

That is definitely the clause that sardasa touched on. Though to be honest i've been using coinbase to trade for some skrill funds and whatnot as well, but just not on a commercial basis. It's purely for personal use. And who reads the T&Cs anyways? I guess coinbase wants everyone to go through its actual exchange instead of going to an e-exchanger.

@sardasa, was your coinbase account verified? If yes, that means that you won't be able to open another verified account... Bummer.

I wonder if they have some sort of limit before your account is automatically tagged for investigation. I haven't actually heard any of my not so rich friends get their coinbase account closed.
Yes, it was verified. I am not even planning to open another account. There are many other online wallets right now providing better service than coinbase.
I opened this coinbase account in August 2015 when they were offering $75 worth of BTC for free when someone used to buy $100 worth of BTC or more.
I got this $75 worth of BTC for free and never switched from coinbase until this happened.

Funniest part: This is the response I got from their support today: http://prntscr.com/fqnup4
I think the new responds from coinbase asking to use your email that you actually using connected in coinbase..
Are you changing your email before this happen?
If not they are doing fraudulent about their service. Many people are actually having problem about freezing account or block account but most of them are totally blocked and never recover their bitcoins.. They should give back your bitcoins if your coins still there even they closed your account.
I have account there but never experience this yet but i don't want to experience this thing because sometimes i'm using their service to gamble before since i experience many issue like pending transaction that it takes too much time before they can reply and the site always unavailable i decided to use electrum and multi HD for alternative use.. It is not safe for now to use their service since they are not also giving chance to get the private keys of every bitcoin address there possible that our bitcoin is in risk..
I used the same e-mail id which was linked to my account.
After they asked me to close the account, I closed it.

After closing the account, I asked them the reason for asking me to close the account and then they told me that they don't find my e-mail id in their system.

Lol! I guess they alerady deleted your account so even the support people couldn't access it.

There has been a lot of occurances of coinbase blocking accounts, obviously. But i haven't heard of any cases of coinbase confiscating the bitcoins, every time they allow you to withdraw it. Unless there is a court order ruled against your favour.

I don't think there are "many" users whose balance were also blocked. They may block your accounts, but your funds can be withdrawn. "Freezing" your funds only happens very rarely. Please post evidence to back your claim if I am wrong!

I would rather see Coinbase as an exchange than as a wallet.

Using coinbase to compete with coinbase is not a great idea, don't you think ? I would expect other exchanges to have similar terms, to be honest.

Interesting, i though that they only gave you $10 for the referrer and $10 for the new user getting verified. When i signed up i definitely didn't get $75, lol.

I guess it's not safe for people to use coinbase for essentially everything related to bitcoin, because their terms and conditios basically cover every regular activity that an average bitcoiner does, like playing at a casino for fun, exchanging bitcoin into other ecurrencies off-site and whatnot.

Also, It baffles me how their support is willing to reply to your request, but ignoring hundreds of others.

This is what you get when you insist on using "regulated" exchanges.

Unregulated exchanges has their own problems, i accept that but you'll never ever get a message like this one from the unregulated xchanges.

They don't even tell you what they found on you, they just decided not to work with you. Great. Fuck coinbase.

Anybody who still uses this exchange deserves everything they get. (sorry but you are also included, op)

Well... Using unregulated exchanges aren't the smartest idea either. I mean regulated exchanges usually have better customer support and they allow you to withdraw your coins even if your account gets suspended, whilst exchanges like BTC-e, you literally dunno whats going on and just have to hope for the best. But either way i dont think anyone should use coinbase, they have shown an extreme liking of closing accs, almost trigger happy, and they don't even have the customer support of a regulated exchange.

That's really bad and without a prior notice.
I had this same experience with coinbase earlier this year, my account was locked out for no apparent reason, I had to withdraw my funds to blockchain, good thing I had two wallets.
I used to like their services but since then, I have never thought of going back to them.

I got this e-mail from coinbase 30 minutes back.

http://imgur.com/a/foj1d

I was successfully able to transfer BTC out to other wallet but they closed my account for no reason and don't think they're going to tell me the reason behind it too.
I was using them since September 2015 and all of a sudden today they closed me down.

PS: Due to this account closure, I had to change my profile wallet address also.

Ah, damn.

In the early 2015 days i had a lot of friends on various dice sites that got their coinbase accounts suspended for having gambling related activity associated to their account. All of them were able to get their bitcoins transferred to another wallet without having to upload any sort of ID document, they just couldn't use their existing account.

You're lucky that you got the full amount transferred to another wallet as well. There's one guy on reddit that can't do this, and coinbase support is notorious just like poloniex and can take a long time to respond.

This is definitely the clause that you violated in my opinion.

Coinbase has a history of suspending any account that does a lot of gambling related stuff, currency exchange(which obviously you deal with on a daily basis) as well as ponzi schemes. Why were you using coinbase in the first place? Is it to save fees?

But the good thing is at least you're able to withdraw your coin. I haven't really heard anyone that got closed by coinbase and haven't been able to withdraw. Though if you don't hold the private keys, you don't own the coins.

They have closed many accounts and since we all trade bitcoins, we can never know from where do users may be sending coins to our account. Some may send from suspicious accounts and then wallets like xapo/coinbase just close it thinking that we are at fault. You can contact them again and provide proof to get your account reopened but I guess it won't be worth. They are the same as paypal.

Fortunately you withdraw your coins. My account too is not accessible now since they changed the 2FA. I can't login itself.

That is sad to hear that such a beneficial person faced such type of issue from them. They have to give a chance to the members to clarify the case before closing their accounts as they sometimes can be on mistake. I am sure that someone will have sent you the funds from their gambling wallet and because of that coinbase closed your account.
If they would come to you before closing your account then it would not be hard for you to show them the proof of your trade with others that others often send funds to you.

If you are doing a *legal* business, you need to inform them *prior* to account closure. If your business isn't legal and you get lots of bitcoins from others especially funds related to sites they have blacklisted such as gambling sites, your account will be closed and your funds can even be freezed depending on the source of your Bitcoin. Without a well-defined business, sending information about it to Coinbase and other exchanges*, won't do much help because it can easily forged.

* Terms and conditions can vary according to countries. Read them before using exchanges or online wallets, in fact, any sites at all!

Could they have mistaken any of your activity to gambling? Such as depositing and withdrawing to and from a HYIP or doubler, or any site that resembles a doubler? What about sites like faucetgame.com that looks like a gambling site, but actually doesn't take deposits for gambling?

I deal with many users on daily basis. Never asked from where are they sending me the BTC.
I myself don't gamble or anything.
If thats the case then they might been possibly using gambling site wallet or any means to transfer funds related into. Its really possible for this thing to happen and coinbase did detect the activity of your transactions which is the reason of closing your account. You have been using them for almost 2 years this coming september and they did just blocked the account all the way and lucky for you that you got the funds inside of it before it was been closed.
Unless specified by court or relevant authorities, they won't freeze access to user's funds.
