Good exchange, fingers crossed they are not about to go gox. Their customer service has always been poor, but they do deliver. I don't think you should worry too much.

They claim the outages are due to “unprecedented traffic and trading,” on the exchange, as a result of crypto trading reaching record levels.

They are still the number one bitcoin exchange in the world, keep messaging them, I am sure your problem will be solved,  however long it takes.

Coinbase have poor service and even support. Don't know why people still use coinbase. They scammed a lot of people. There's a lot of exchange out there which is better than coinbase. And if wallet is the case. Better use SPV wallets to avoid any inconveniences. Don't use any online wallets.

I have seen so many times when they just stop their services and its annoying to all the users. Its better to use any other exchange, and they provide better services too. If you want to hold your Bitcoins then never store them on these exchanges, use a desktop storage or mobile wallet and store your coins.

What is a better wallet to work through? Xapo?
Neither Coinbase nor Xapo are wallets per se.  They're online wallets, which are basically a bank that you're trusting to store and spend your Bitcoin for you.  A proper Bitcoin wallet is one where you control your private keys - these are wallets like Electrum which you download.

You can also deal with hardware wallets like a TREZOR, and use these with Electrum if you want.  I would argue that these are a very safe option for users who are not tech-savvy.

Alternatively you could use Bitcoin Core, which is a full node.  This way you're contributing to the security of the whole network.  However, it can be resource intensive to run these clients.

which coin are you having trouble with, i hear the outage problem has only been with ethereum that they are running short on supplies!
and also the support seems to be bad with almost all the exchanges these days! they all get a surge of new customers with a lot of problems and that may be part of the problem.

as a wallet not an exchange service, anything is better than coinbase, any wallet that you control the private keys of.
if you are find with running a full node then go with bitcoin core and if you want an SPV client then use electrum or multibit.

Coinbase is heavily regulated exchange platform so all of their users are under constant monitoring. And they are known for freezing/suspending users account without any prior notice, so I have never used them.

I personally funded a transaction a week ago via debit card and am still waiting for it.
Credit card deposits may take upto 1 week but if you don't get your deposits even after next few days you can contact their support and wait for answers. But I would suggest you to not leave any amount of bitcoin in your coinbase account. Either withdraw them out to paper/hardware wallet or to electrum wallet.

Between their recent high amount of outages and delays mixed in with their super poor customer service, they are getting tons of flak.
