I just got this same error after doing Instant purchases since August.  I have a Master Card.

I emailed them.  Then I just waited a few days and tried again and it took the same card back.

Still no idea why
Waited a day, and I was able to add and verify my MC this morning.

Rejected card from yesterday also means I lost my ability to wire money, so I'll have to get re-approved.  I got approved earlier this year for use on their Exchange, but never used that feature.

This seems to be quite a large issue, you would think they would issue a statement or something about why this is happening and steps being taken to correct it.

Since only 32 countries are currently allowed, maybe this is the issue?
There is a list on coinbase website.

Wasn't my issue, from the United States and a state that they definitely support.

They made it pretty clear it was a problem on their end.

New member here, been searching the internet for this... this problem has been driving me crazy for the last week. It hasn't been fixed yet. I have tried adding a new card today and it still not working, my card is still not working since last week, and it sucks waiting 5 days or whatever it is to have to add BitCoins....

Just verified my card, everything seems to be back to normal now.  Perhaps send them a message and try again.

so are u saying , by some error, they unverified some credit cards wich were verified already ?

Yes, they had been previously verified and they were taken off.

I had received an email saying they were working on the issue and that they would keep me updated.

I tried verifying again about an hour ago, and got past the previous point I was at, now I just have to verify the 2 amounts on my card in the next couple of days.

Hopefully it is fixed now.

I've had two backup Visas removed in the last week with the same reported reason (I have two CB accounts). They had been in place for at least a year. FYI.

Got a reply back from Coinbase.  They are currently investigating an issue that has caused many credit cards to become unverified and is not allowing new credit cards to be verified.  Sounds like something with their system that is causing issues.  Hopefully they will get it fixed soon as I rely quite heavily on being able to buy instantly.

Thanks to those that responded with helpful information.  It doesn't sound like a VISA thing, it was just curious to me that two cards with the only parallel factors being that they were VISA were having the same problems at Coinbase.

If you are NOT from US, that might be the reason.

I just got an email saying that Coinbase could not authorize the credit card that I had on file and that my instant buy was disabled.  I tried adding the card again and was told the card issuer declined the charge and then tried a different credit card through my bank that is also a VISA and got the same thing?

Anyone know what is going on?  Did VISA declare war on bitcoin?

The most common thing to be made in such situations is to contact both supports. Even the third. I mean the support of Coinbase, the support of your bank which has issued your Visa card and if you will have not good or full explanations from those must be contacted even the support of Visa. After doing those actions for sure you will know all the truth of your story.

As for me, I haven't heard nothing about a possible ban of bitcoin from Visa. And indirectly can tell even that the answer of your question made at main post may be no. Because Payza act only with Visa cards and have even the option of bitcoin as withdraw or send. Visa rule the Payza financial life so if your supposition would be right then Payza would have been baned bitcoin from its services. Until now everything is unchanged there.

over-exaggerated, nobody declare war on bitcoin. It's just your bank account problem. Go get another card with different bank.

I have never had this issue, although I fairly rarely buy bitcoin via coinbase.

I understand that if the debit to your bank account were to fail, then coinbase would take a cash advance payment from your credit card, so if your cash advance credit limit (which is often/always lower then your overall credit limit) is not sufficient to cover the transaction, then the issuing bank may not approve the transaction.

Another potential issue could be that the billing address is incorrect. If for example you input your home address instead of your billing address (this matters even if you receive electronic statements) then your card will likely get declined. When I had updated my billing address to a secondary address (that happened to be in a different zip code then where I live) on most of my credit cards several months ago, I started to encounter many situations in which my credit card was getting declined even though it was paid in full every week/month and there were no other outstanding issues with them.

I have a Coinbase account and get all my coins from there. You should definitely check your credit card. I know for a fact that my  Credit card is a Visa and they have no problems processing the transactions when I purchase coins.
