There are rumors coinbase is running out of money.
It seems to me that this is the situation. I wanted to sell today, but Coinbase doesn't let to sell, only allows to buy. And it looks like hundreds of people are in the same situation in the last week.

With the KYC/AMD bullshit ppl should first verify in full before depositing $ or BTC, but also exchange and services should be more open about their policy

Good to hear. I always used instant buy before they closed my account due to a new region policy.

Now, this is good news. Did you get the bitcoins or a refund in usd? Either way congratulations. It is annoying having to beg for your funds ones these exchanges get hold of them.

Coinbase is such a self righteous scam of a company. They took $10k usd from me that I put in to buy BTC at $455 each and today they are at $555. I have no BTC and no money. All I get is constant excuses as to why I haven't been refunded my money and constant delays. To make matters worse the customer service people are about as rude as you can get. I am surprised it is even legal to do what they are doing to me.

Unless your Bitcoins are in a private wallet on your own computer all you own are IOUs.
In the coming years I guarantee you more exchanges will go under. Its just the nature of industry!
Try to remember these are ether private businesses owned by the founder and some investors or worse an arm of a larger corporation run by investors legally obligated to protect the investors not the users like you!
Again I repeat the boards of these companies are legally obligated to get as much money back for the original investors as they can if things go south. That includes fucking over as many people as they can just like Mt_Gox did in the weeks leading to up their closer. They can shut down withdraws and allow deposits for weeks and release statements insuring that "everything is fine! No need to worry! Its a small bug in our system! It will be fixed soon!" And then without any warning close down with as much money on their books as they can get!!

You have no rights you can't make any demands because you are nothing to them! And your government couldn't care less about your misfortune. Just remember one thing... Coinbase is not Bitcoin, they only using Bitcoin to make money and they are actually no different than any other bank or third party fiat exchange. You give your money over
to them and you give them control over you. They call the shots and they make the rules... They also have to adhere to the KYC/AML regulations, which binds you to rules and laws created by the
government. You should never trust ANY of these services with a lot of your wealth... money corrupts people and organizations.

Is there anything my bank can do? They were apparently all worried about me doing stop payments through my bank after a purchase. Since they are holding my money is there anyway to do that?

Where are you located ? Why not sue them ? If you're very confident that the sources of your income are legit and not black collar stuff like Gambling,hit the nearest cyber crime department.Send their official address a notice.Spreading awareness about how scammy a site is not going to help you refund your $10k.Take an initiative beyond internet.Scenarios like this are giving bitcoin a bad name.
correct me if I am wrong....you are advising he should not make this public to maintain bitcoins "good name"? Why should that be his priority? Is main concern is to get his funds back and how he goes about it is his perogative.
Feeling bad for your lost, I hope you'll get your money back.. I didn't expected such thing from coinbase,. thank god that I never do any trade with coinbase, I used coinbase only for wallet purpose, but it is very sad to see that a big company of bitcoin turning into scam,, with this incident people will loose again their faith on bitcoin.
