Absolutely, but it depends on the amount of active connections. It's very light, rarely uses a couple of percent of CPU of a cheap VPS - network IO is the limiting factor.

It's still under very active development as you can see by bootstrap. Coinchat is commercial through, I can release the core server software as FOSS, but if it's a good strategy for me is something else.

Well now, that's a complicated discussion, not meaning to go into it. Fact remains that easily distributable irc-like chat server has a future. We're not talking here of Bitcoin Gem sort of stuff, this looks like a genuine shot at something. Especially if it also includes good encryption natively.

What you make of that...well now that's your job isn't it.

Not to rain on your thing, which is cool and everything (yes, seriously): the main strategic advantage of IRC in MP's eyes is the distributed server architecture, which makes it very resilient.

Is there any way you can recode this so that anyone wanting can run a server, and then shutting the thing down would become a question of ruining everyone's computer? IRC servers are bulky and demanding, requiring dedicated servers pretty much. If your thing is nimble enough to be run on random desktop in background you've got a huge thing here.

Is this irc or just some webchat?
A webchat that has very irc-styled, with some modern enhancements (for example, you don't need to join each room every time you start) and bitcoin specific rewards + tipping.

I track this topic from another thread into this one, I said people in China could not connect to your site, now it remains fail.
I sincerely apologize but I am unable to assist on this matter. It is a problem with China's internet censorship, not a problem with the connection.

Sorry.

Thanks! CoinChat also has a lot of cool features. Such as creating your own rooms (and self moderate it), purchasing different text colors, IRC commands like /me, /query, /pm, nice scrolling, a userlist on user created rooms, and way better payouts.
