I tip my hat to you sir,

This is what crypto is all about, sharing and exploring, creating and playing around.  People who don't share = douchebags.  Some people think because they know how to compile something that makes them smarter lol

Its not about shitcoins, its about the possibilities that goes with creating you own coin, for your own purposes whether local or international.  Maybe you are a librairian who wants to reward kids that read books.  Or a teacher.

I followed all your instructions. I appreciate the great post. I still never got a network connection though. I also tried addnode (IP address of other CPU) add on QT console command line. All the instructions I have found aren't working. Ars technica has instructions too that have no mention of .conf file. Tried those. Still nothing. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it

Hey Riffed-

Thanks for the info.

Regarding Coingen's node IP of 173.246.103.51, will all additional/future installs of the wallet need to be able to access thier IP in order to connect to the other existing nodes and I'm talking about wallets that are simply downloaded and installed as is without any config file creating/editing.

If anyone knows, I appreciate the time.

Thanks again-

Im curious about this too.  Wink

Compile a new coin is easy, Market it is very important, If you are looking for long term partner developer present your idea to me.

I successfully launch my own Coin call ProsperCoin
I helped Popular Coin development and now it's really POP

If you want a coin that die within a week then coingen is a good idea

coingen coins have no future
no support after coin creation
if you want any update or want support then you don't get anything

if you want to start own coin then you should talk to a dev directly

I have noticed with these coins that the bock time is ALWAYS 600 no matter what you put in their form. Let's say I want a 100s block time.  This is what they do:

 // Use an exponentially decaying ~10-minute window:
 -            dFreeCount *= pow(1.0 - 1.0/600.0, (double)(nNow - nLastTime));
 +            dFreeCount *= pow(1.0 - 1.0/100.0, (double)(nNow - nLastTime));

This has NOTHING TO DO WITH BLOCK TIMES afaik
This is what remains unchanged:

static const int64 nTargetSpacing = 10 * 60;

Am I missing something or do they not even know how to correctly change block times?

is it free ?

Sure it is!  Just download someone's coin off the download page, follow these great instructions, and you may be able to hijack the coin from the guy who paid for it.  If you hurry, you can 51% his block chain before he even knows what hit him.
