Yet again, thank you all for the nice comments and suggestions
Nice, well done. Bookmarking this, tweeting this & adding this to delicious
This is robust.
I like how you included all the icons. Did you hard code this or did you borrow a framework? Nice work to say the least. Cheers...
I appreciate the support!
I hadn't made a website for over four years and I was a complete newbie then, so it was fun learning!
I used a very basic template (header, body and footer) and then did the rest in notepad. I borrowed the idea for the tables/icons from another site of a different genre - as soon as I saw it I knew Bitcoin could do with something similar.
I plan to update this regularly keeping it relevant and I'm always open to suggestions or ideas.
Well it looks great, ive tested in a number of different browsers & it displays flawlessly. Are you continuing to code in notepad? In my early days (and im not saying im a vertern or anything
) I was using notepad but then I found Sublime text.
http://www.sublimetext.com/ Check it out, you will be glad you did. Free version is the full version except about every 5-7 saves on a file you have to decline donating. Anyways good job and keep up the good work.
I thinking flagging sites as "warning" is a very opinion based and not what a directory should be. If the site is clearly a scam then why would you have it on your site anyway?
This is something I was hoping people would debate.
Taking Mt.Gox as an example, I would hate to refer someone to them, only for them to make a fiat deposit and been unable to withdraw it. This is something I feel they should be warned about.
As BFL are shipping and Virtex's ToS are quite clear then I can see an argument for removing those warnings.
The warnings on securities and derivatives can be easily justified, I think.
If a site is a scam, I wouldn't list it = I don't think any of the sites on there are scams.
So this is a review site, not a directory, you are talking about two different sites now. Cause I could say something about most of those sites, that should be a warning. Also people should do their own research, as you claim this is a directory, if it was reviewer then I can see the warning.
A couple of thoughts on this. Gweedo, Im not coming at you. I see your point in defining a review site versus a directory site. But if this guy wants to think outside the box build a site geared towards being a high quality directory site and then he wants to add his own research & assessments in the form of a review then so be it. Its his contribution to the community. A good one at that.
I feel as if this is a relevant example:btct.co listed questionable securities but placed a
warning stating to trade with caution & to do your due diligence because there was a general consensus that agreements were not being upheld or scammy behavior or what have you.And we all know that btct.co didnt cross the line as a hybrid review site / stock exchange. (i just noticed i reiterated a few things that were already mentioned
)
On coinindex I see that there is a warning next to Butterfly labs. This is with good cause. Is BFL a full blown scam? Well in my opinion, no. A percentage of people have received their purchased items but a percentage of people that have not. Anyways, this has turned into a full blown rant so im closing this
Im just saying nothing wrong with thinking outside the box, not building something typical and adding a "warning" is opinion based as we all have opinions and as a webmaster of the site they are entitled to display their warning.
