That is why the rating is important to filter the bad results, not many investors are aware of scams nowadays. I personally use Coingecko which is easier to use and there is an alert function for favorite altcoins. Newbies shouldn't look for the newly listed altcoins, there are top altcoins which is safer to invest for inexperienced investors. The Binance team has announced they have bought the CMC a few weeks ago, hope this will change the working principles of CMC ASAP.

Actually, it is not only in coinmarketcap. There are so many sites that promote new projects. And it is what happens to the newbies when they know about a new project and they think that they are good because of a certain advertisement. In this case, if we know someone newbies and going to invest in a certain project, we must ensure them to research and also analyze whether the project is legit or not. if they don't know how to do it, they can ask other people to analyze it. And what the most important is that never only think about choosing the coin grom the CMC or other sites.
We can't also blame CMC for this.

-snip--
It is true that there are criteria and also methodologies in the coin market cap. However, we also do not know how good and influencing the choice from CMC to welcome the projects on their sites.

Nice warning. Maybe that newbie has heard that suggestion from someone who uses coinmarketcap's newest listing where he will invest. And it has been passed on and made that as his strategy for where he will start choosing investments and projects to invest.
It could be a good strategy for others but not truly effective for everybody.

He will learn his lesson sooner or later. That not all suggested links are credible to invest his funds. That his own research and assessment is necessary before spending any penny to these crypto projects. CMC is no way responsible if someone will invest on a certain crypto project. They are merely providing data to the crypto community and not all data are reliable. They can't track the authenticity of all these info.
Yes. He will learn later on after knowing that not everything that's being listed on coinmarketcap's newly listed projects are not always good to invest.
Experience will be his key to learn that every project is risky but if he wants a better crypto to invest, he should rely on the most popular and common coins.

I believe newbies keep joining crypto space every day and I will like to share a warning about coinmarketcap and what most newbies are still doing wrong on this platform, if you visit https://coinmarketcap.com/new  you will get the list of new projects listed on coinmarketcap everyday, a newbie told me that he choose new projects through the link I provide up there, the truth is coinmarketcap don't care, they list many new projects without caring about if they are legit or fake, tons of useless tokens are getting listed on coinmarketcap and you need to stop this madness before it's too late, majority of these coins and tokens have no volumes, stop investing on these coins and tokens, it will only end up breaking you

True, So many scam projects already listed on CMC too.

Yuno, Kimchi, rope and many more scam projects that have gone but they have ever listed in CMC as new coins in the market too. If that's true the newbies were getting the list of new coins from there and that will be a disaster because it's a super high risk coin that can become a scam project anytime.

It's interesting that they have no warning whatsoever.  Wish they had "Unverified Projects" close to the "New", plus *Use at your own risk* in red or something. Besides, it's better to have the unverified projects on separate page and the verified ones on main page. Thought that was part of the reason the platform was bought.. to sanitized it?
That's what we thought initially when CZ takes over CMC to have improvements, but I would say nothing has down and instead make it more complicated and there are a lot of newbies being trap with the *new* project lists they have. On the flipside, we should investigate more and not just rely to CMC or any other platforms that offer this kind of "preview" and yes, there should be disclaimer.

Coinmarketcap and other similar platforms are just data points where we can gather and analyse data about any project so if you want to invest it is your responsibility do do your research and cover all aspects of the project before buying because it is your money and only you are responsible for it.

That's the fault from the newbie's side itself who invest based on that page without doing their own "research", to be honest that's the foolest behavior as an investor. I don't think blaming either CoinMarketCap or any market cap sites is the right action, moreover CoinMarketCap already provides added educational sources at the bottom of the page which it's not really bad IMO.

I like this concept. I hope they make something like this.

The fact that Coinmarketcap was I acquired by binance, people expected it to provide a better service for everyone. But the opposite is happening, the site became slower, the charts and the data are not exact (e.g. BTC dominance, volume, etc.). I hope this improves in the future.
They also should create better charts layouts for analysis like the one in tradingview or the chart in binance, which can help many traders.

After binance has taken over the coinmarketcap there have been significant changes and new features have been made available as well so I am looking forward to something which can analyse each project and give expert opinion, it could just be a small portion around each project or simply a paragraph.

The newbie is only making a big mistake and I wonder who taught him that approach to investing in new tokens. Just like you told him the truth, coinmarketcap do not care about any token what matters to them is to list the token and that's all, any other thing such as investing now depends on the investor and the result of his study about the token (if any).
I just wish newbies will always take time to ask questions before taking certain steps because in this crypto space, Information is very important as it will guide a newbie into doing the right thing hence differentiating between hype/scam projects and potential projects.

It isnt really that bad though because you arent really that financially capable if you do just bought anytime a new coin that had been listed but if you are really that wise then you can somehow search or nitpick
which project is good for you to invest on.Its true that CMC doesnt really care about legitimacy of the project and just tend to list out every new coins in the market that do exist and of course
its neither these coins will hit up some value or totally shit since from the beginning. That advice you had heard into isnt really that bad if he had added up that only choose the best ones.
The question is, how to choose? Then this is your own job to be done.I cant deny that theres still money or profit to be made if you do made out the right decision.

after i saw most of the new coin list on the site it is Defi coin. and I agree with you even not just beginners but for anyone, not easily attracted by coins that have no real use cases. In addition, this coin is a counterfeit coin of the Defi concept. I think be a smart investor and don't misplace your money on a bad project.

in my opinion new project must pay the fee to be listed on coinmarketcap site
There is no pay to listing on coinmarketcap, is just a coin provider information.

As long the coin/token meets the criteria listed on coinmarketcap they will list no matter the project about ponzi or anything. You should read and try to google it about the criteria listing on coinmarketcap.

But if you want to give some tips for them, they can accept some donation.

Coinmarketcap is just a price indicator if you think that Coinmarketcap will show you what coin is good to invest, you will end up losing everything so many coins in the market are pump and dump coins, that is if you are looking for a new coin to invest, but if you are investing in the top and legit coins in the market, then coinmarketcap is your friend and ally.

I think CMC is a platform that accepts payments from any project developer which can be verified to be shown there. But I don't think they will accept any offer without doing project authenticity and checking. Have you ever tried to find out how they do it?
Read some of these article.

https://support.coinmarketcap.com/hc/en-us/sections/360008888252-Metric-Methodologies
https://support.coinmarketcap.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043659351-Listings-Criteria

CMC should not be used as a platform for making investment decision. It is simply an information provider that support you to do better analysis when you want to invest in token or coin. Whoever they are, I think everyone should consider the investment risk and also carry out an analysis before deciding which token or coin to include in the portfolio.

Yes, I would love to see some filtration from cmc about new projects, infact all listed projects, they should create a panel of experts who analyse each project and mark it either by giving stars based or out of 10 rankings also they should indicate suspicious, fake, scammy or low quality projects. This will be great service for crypto community and market and also money will flow to right projects only.
