i am bored with altcoin bingo. i want real coins.

please name 3 coins and an example for real world utilisation. thank you.

i start with:

1. BTC: payments
2. NLG: payments
3. XMR: payments

Ok for BTC and NLG but XMR payments? Where is XMR accepted in real world?

XMR is accepted in the dark web markets. Drug dealers find its anonymity quite appealing.

No you are wrong. It was accepted by only one dark market during several weeks, but this market owner shut down the market and disappeared with stolen XMR.

Anonymous coins should be discussed in a separate topic, imo.

Only 2 coins.

bitcoin
litecoin

no more

I do think Gulden will take litecoins place in the next 2 years as the silver to bitcoin.

Right now it's Bronze but the development roadmap for Gulden is a lot more exciting.

wow. you have a totally different view of eth to me.

there's some clever stuff going on. it's also an object lesson in why you should keep your core layer dumb. it's gonna throw up more and more problems. it's just too complex and vulnerable to be viable for anything real world right now. maybe that's gonna change but i for one wouldn't bet any money on it.

and what use does average joe have for it? your pickup driving good old boy don't have a great deal of space in his life for it.  bitcoin is a hard enough sell and that's an order of magnitude simpler.

Most adopted coin:  Bitcoin
Most developed coin/crypto: Ethereum

Most interesting new comer  = ZEC.  It could take off or it could go nowhere.

I honestly think Ethereum has the most talented developers by far.

If bitcoin goes up another 1000%, that would put it at ~7k per btc.  The market would be over 1$ trillion USD
It can happen over time.

However, If Ethereum goes 1000%, that means it goes from $10/ETH to $100/ETH.  At $100 per eth, the price point is much more affordable to the average user.

Therefore, likelihood of Eth going up another 1000% versus BTC going up 1000% in 10 years or less is much higher.

Businesses, etc will flock more to a crypto that has controls to mitigate theft, DoS attacks, etc.

Individuals will flock to a crypto that is purely secure and anonymous for exchanging value, information, and browsing internet.

Summary:

Bitcoin is likely to hold value and make some return.  However, Ethereum is likely to have higher return due to price and faster rate of innovation + adoption.

Actually, for real world usage I only can recommend Bitcoin by now. There is a wide range of usage for Bitcoin. From renting webspace or virtual private server plans and online gambling to buying products on Amazon with (last one is possible over a special provider in my country), Further there are some particular local firms like a vine yard that excepting Bitcoins. I do not know other coins for which you can do this. Maybe Gulden coin is an option, but only for purchases in the Netherlands.

one or two dark markets? probably a few gift card places. of course average joe wouldn't know how to store them or where to buy them and he'd have to start off with bitcoin in the first place most likely.

even after all this time and development average joe has no reason to use crypto for anything other than dark markets.

BTC - For transfering value

Steem - For blogging

I think these two are the ones I'm sure have actual utilisation present others we are just betting on potentials. I have issues with the centralisation of steem power but it is actually offering something presently.

★YoBit.Net★ 350+ Coins Exchange & Dice
The only coin ive ever used for anything and the only one i can ever see me using (unless something replaces it) is bitcoin. Ive transferred various alts from a to b etc but never bought anything with any of them. Im sure one will come with great benefits soon but as of now all these alts that can be used to create daps or whatever have been no use to me and i doubt they ever will be. For programmers of course maybe some alts are useful, even then.

and what can average joe do with this assets? please tell us this.

Invest in them.

It's not my cup of tea investing in assets, but neither were the goods I could buy with bitcoin at the start.

Over time though it can grow.

Also note that it's not black and white. About everything you can buy with Gulden, you can buy with bitcoin as well. Same for Monero, you can buy most with bitcoin as well, same for Nxt, the asset issuers & sellers will also accept bitcoin in exchange for shares for the most part.

In the end there is no altcoin yet that has succeeded to have popular unique utility that you cannot do with bitcoin.

It may come though as bitcoin is becoming more and more expensive per transaction.
