if you have bigger balance in your account then top five crypto currencies will have a good chance to help you to make profit but if you only small until medium balance, then i will suggest you to pick from the top twenty or even top fifty because there is much coins that could help you to make big profit. we don't take about short term buy and sell but we buy and hold for a while until the price is increase significant then we can selling to earn big profit. but if you want to use short term strategy to buy and sell, then you need to pick a coins which have a fast moving for buy and sell.
There are a lot of tokens you can invest in, go to the coinmarketcap.com site and search the top 50 or top 20 coins listed there and do a research on the supply and the demand of the coin and that's how you'll get an idea on which coin you would want to invest in.

Altcoins are not only unstable at present, they are always going through such bad circumstances and those who are trading with altcoins are mostly distressed because these coins don’t have strong market. This is the reason why I never trade with altcoins because they never produce profits up to your expectations. What I really enjoy id trading with bitcoin that two twice a month. There has been so many coins in the past that started well and now they are gone cause they just could not keep up or something strange just happened.
Buy one that has been stable over quite a time. Also, buy the dip - meaning get a coin that can't get much lower or has been on the same price since weeks.

you can buy cheap coin altcoin and you have to see the latest info and graph from the coin, I can not tell you what coin is suitable for now because I am afraid it is wrong to suggest you can see it at https://coinmarketcap.com /, there is altcoin info and complete including the latest news info from the coin, from there you can decide yourself what coin you want to buy.
Almost all coins are applicable on trading site, maybe it's up to the users what coins they were used in trading. Commonly ethereum is the coin used in trading sites, but for me I'm willing to used any available altcoins in my wallet. Because how I can know whose crypto's good to hold and to sell if I can't monitored the fluctuation of each one in the market.

You want to try trading as what you said so you don't have an experience yet. I would suggest to read about trading first. What are the factors involved in trading, read about technical analysis, fundamental analysis and market psychology. I know that experience is the best way to learn but you should know as well why the trade is going up or down and understand why the market is in an uptrend or downtrend. You should know market psychology because the one who are trading are people and if you don't understand it then there is a tendency for you to lose more.
I know that it is convenient to just directly ask what are the coins you should trade but those people have reasons why they bought that coin and you should have a reason too and not just directly buy the coin because most of the people are buying it. Most of the time, when you ask other people what to buy, they would suggest a coin that they already bought to push the price higher and you may end up being dump by their coins.
since i was a newbie for trading i take the etc ltc and btc first because iknow this coin is have more popular in investor and the price is up and down and never been go to shitcoin....and also in this coin my knowledge to trading has increase i learn when i hold or when i sell...so i reccoment to use this coin for newbie not for promoting but i share my experience for trading...
