Other is what I picked because DogeCoin isn't visible... To be exact the extent that would be taken to diversify would list LiteCoin over others.

I'd imagine that whole list will go up, but the matter taken is what one is picked.

My portfolio with the available options would be:

Gold: 90%
Bitcoin: 4%
Monero: 4%
Dash: 2%

However, if I'm allowed to add silver to the list it would go:

Silver: 70%
Gold: 20%
Bitcoin: 4%
Monero: 4%
Dash: 2%

So far no altcoins have proven that they are genuine, original or good enough so that they will stick around and continue to grow for 20 years.  It's very unlikely that any altcoin, which will most likely be more of a trend than anything else to be frank, will rise in value, stay relevant or even get close to Bitcoin.  The only coin which I would trust to stay stable enough for as long as that is Bitcoin.

I'm going to go with the trusty US dollar, maybe some pounds and swiss francs as well as all of those are "coins" that have lasted more than 20 years. Add  bit of gold in there too!

Don't bother with alts or the euro!  Grin

Could not of said it better and reminds me of: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rip_Van_Winkle_Caper

All on above will be correct or be incorrect as 20year from now we will never know what will happen to our money trading. Maybe people in the future dont use real money to buy but using bitcoin or country currency in crypto.who know.

monero is good

I forgot to add some XMR too in my portfolio if I was to be sleeping for 20 years... but other than that, what's out there? Dash? anyone really thinks Dash will be here in 20 years? they will run out of marketing money eventually.

I would be 20% on alts and 80% on BTC.

I bet there were similar threads to this one back in 2010-2012 about BTC 'hype'.  I think if a person does some research, and attempts to moderately educate themselves, they'd find some coins worth holding.  I'm moving my money out of BTC into other altcoins that I find value in.  So far, my investments have paid off.  If the rules for this experiment are you 'MUST HOLD FOR 20 YEARS' then yes, BTC.  If you're just asking what are some safe long term investments, trust me you can find some.  I won't mention what I'm investing in, because for every pro argument, one can rebut with a con argument, and I truly believe it has less to do with these few specific coins, and more to do with research.  I bet other people have found massive success that have never touched the coins I invest in.  My recommendation with altcoins is use fundamental analysis, never technical.  Altcoin markets are very small compared to stock market/forex, where technical analysis can actually pay off.

The only coin worth holding long term today is obviously bitcoin, but I would like to add some ETH too, even if I don't like it, it seems it's getting supports from big business and TPTB for some reason.

Then I would add in a small amount of Maid, just in case they figure out how to make it work eventually.

For 20 years, Bitcoin is the only currency which I believe might survive.

Altcoins are great but let's be honest, none of them are just going to stay stable for ages or go way up in value.

Most of the giant rises in value are temporary.

same thing too much risky holding any other coin for me, bicoin is the only one with potential for a very long terms like 20 years, all the current line-up of altcoin will likely be replaced in the near future, don't hold anything dump for bitcoin ad be safe than sorry

as an investment only bitcoin and nothing else. and even bitcoin is not a 100% thing. you invest in bitcoin and can be sure with a high certainty that it will remain good and strong.

with altcoins you can be sure with high certainty that they will die sooner or later specially those altcoin that are being pump and dumped and have no adoption.
don't be fooled by the temporary rises to $50 these never last.
