At first, I thought sports betting was all just betting on which team the punter thinks will win the match. To my slight surprise, sports betting is a lot broader than just that, especially when odds and point spreads and lines now get in the way.

~snip~

Now I find it important that beginners know first at least the most common types of sports bets so that they can maximize their sports betting experience.
Here are the most common types:
1. Straight bet
2. Money line bet
3. Total line bet
4. Parlay bet
5. Head-to-head bet

Source with full explanation and examples: MOST COMMON TYPES OF SPORTS BETS

This is something newbies in sports betting needs to understand first before they place a bet or else they might end up scratching their head asking why they lost when they picked the winning team. I remember placing a bet in Golden State Warriors when they faced Houston Rockets and  Golden State Warriors won the game however, I still lost the bet because I placed my bet on a -10.5 game, meaning, you will win if the score is still ahead of the rival team when 10.5 points is deducted. I think it's called Point Spread and Handicap Betting.

That's straight betting. Here's the explanation with an example coming from the MOST COMMON TYPES OF SPORTS BETS

Quote
You make a straight bet on either the favorite or the underdog set apart by the point spread. The point spread is the set number of points by which the favorite is expected to defeat the underdog.

In order for you to win on your bet on the favorite or the stronger team, the team has to win by more than the point spread against the underdog. And for you to win on your bet on the underdog or the weaker team, the expected team to lose has to win outright or lose by less than the point spread.

Example:
GSW – Golden State Warriors (favorite) vs TOR – Toronto Raptors (underdog)
     Point spread: 9.00

You win on your GSW bet if GSW wins by 10 points or above against TOR.
You win on your TOR bet if TOR loses by 8 points or below to GSW or wins outright against GSW.

Betting on the favourite team is the most common sport betting as far as I know and different people comes with different games which may contain many players or head to head like games but it is not much important as long as enjoying what we are doing.
Sport bet is all common because you don’t need to do something but bet only when you see possibility to win. In sports betting you can also recover a game if you change your team following alternatives by having another secret part in the same game. You can increase your bets from that part and hence you will win through your secret alternative competent. Common sports betting involves in cricket football.

Good to see these terms. I am familiar with some of them but I was not exactly sure what it's called. If these are the common types, I wonder what the uncommon types are called?

In Game betting is very popular with sports betting especially since there are so many sports being played at all hours of the day
Also be called 'live betting' but this is popular for gamblers that dont mind paying more juice because with live betting the juice is almost always higher.

Is straight bet the same thing as direct win you mean?
Like betting a particular team to win directly above the other team? If that is what you mean, I hardly bet directly because a team predicted to have a sure win do disappoint at times so I rather look for other options.
Straight bet is different than direct win or money line because you are betting on a team to win the game by covering the point spread. This type of bets exist in almost any sports because all of them use a scoring system based on points or goals to determine the winner.

The one you are talking about is Moneyline.

A team that is considered as a sure win here always have a low odds. Therefore, even how you favorite that team is, it might not worth a bet. In here, gamblers have an option of putting it in a parlay instead so that they can take advantage of the low odds while at the same time, they still make a bet on their favorite team although all bets must be settled to win.
Casual thing to be done when you are doing parlays. Most gambler will probably choose in line with those favorites but i would say that this isnt effective

all the time.Winning up some few games until the last game will mess up or spoil your expectations.

We may enjoy on what we do but if we gamble we might have to be witty for us to get the maximum winnings possible.

We have to study the sports betting types to make use of it on our advantage. In gambling, we lose some we win some but we have to win the maximum if we would win.

When I bet on football I either bet on the winner of the match or the winner with a handicap of one goal. And odds needs to be 1.5 or above before I want to bet anything. I prefer to bet on outcomes with odds around 1.50 to 2.3

Well this is new to me and it really good and fun since one can win even if the team you are betting belongs to the underdog team. However, there are other betting platforms that uses a pool of bets meaning a pool of bets is the money that raises between the two teams and given a percentage on how much one can get if one wins in the betting. So this could be mean that there could be a team that will going to have a huge pool of bet compared to the team usually being an underdog team that has lower pool of bets. So the team with huge bets if it will win there could be only a little amount of rewards to be divided due to the small amount of the losing betters the underdog team. However, if the underdog team wins then the pool of bet from the strong teams will be divided among the winming betters and probably it will be huge.

There are a lot of them. For example in soccer bet, there is the double chance of which it means either the particular team wins or at most gets a draw. It is just a safe way to bet but its odd is very small unlike straight bet.

These are some common options in Sport betting but there are others not as common as these but they exist too. There is the Asian Handicap which created by people in Asia in order to make winning on betting easier even for beginners.Basically you pick the underdog here and you start the game with 1,2 or more imaginary goals in their favour.
