I have just created a
letter to theymos asking to give us a decision by the mixer ban cutoff date of January 1, 2024. The reason is because no mixers means less privacy, and a board to discuss security and privacy will provide a fair medium in the face of this ban.
We have been waiting almost a full year for the decision on this suggestion and nothing has been said to date. It is obvious that the board is possible, or else it would have been denied by the community and potentially even by theymos too. After the mixer ban, I am starting to suspect that theymos has his hands tied by entities that are seeking to disrupt privacy. Otherwise, why would this board not be added? It is clearly in line with Bitcoin's purpose, we are clearly in an age where it takes strategy just to be safe, and bitcoin security methods are important.
I hope that the community can support this letter and I hope even more than all of our voice will result in the mark of BitcoinTalk history that helped to create the board come true.

Recently
the community has been lightly discussing some guidelines in the discussion thread. There has also been some interesting conversation about PytagoraZ's vote. I won't add any personal commentary to that one, but I do encourage those who have voted to go ahead and add their input to these two ongoing topics! It's great to see that the discussion is still ongoing there
Thank you to the recent votes who added some valuable input! I've reshuffled the quote list slightly. I have not considered it greatly, but some of the recent responses have been worth moving closer to the top.

We have our first no vote!
Now that there is a no vote, some may look to object or discuss opposing opinions. For those looking to object or discuss votes, I enthuse you to quote the post and instead reply in the
Cybersecurity & Privacy Board Request Discussion, this way this thread can remain clean and contains votes primarily.

The first 20 voters, thank you for sharing your vote for the Cybersecurity & Privacy board. I hope to see us all discussing this vital topic in the board soon!Since we now have 20 unique reasons/opinions from these humble members, I have made an necessary adjustment & improvement to the voting form:
beforeWhat is your opinion on adding the board to BitcoinTalk?: (Answer: Please provide some insight into your reasoning/opinion
after:What is your opinion on adding the board to BitcoinTalk?: (Answer: Quote a member that you agree with OR share your opinion)
This way, people do not have to feel pressure to leave a unique opinion when voting.

This thread is not for discussion. If you want to discuss, please visit the discussion thread.
Posts which do not adhere to the rule above will be reported for deletion, though this rule excludes staff members who are commenting on the status of the request to add the board. On January 12, 2023, a request was made to add a "Cybersecurity and Privacy" board to the forum.
After roughly 7 months, 49 votes (90.7%) voted YES to adding the board, while 5 votes (9.3%) voted NO. None of the "NO" votes were reasoned as far as I've read. So, I've decided to make a community vote to strengthen the basis of the vote even further.
What is being requested?A board which allows community members to discuss cybersecurity and privacy practices to be able to protect themselves and their Bitcoin holdings from vulnerabilities such as hacking, tracking and theft.
Cybersecurity & Privacy: Main board for discussion and questions relating to cybersecurity and/or privacy
Cybersecurity & Privacy > Guides: Sub-board which only includes guides relating to increasing cybersecurity and/or privacy
Has this been suggested before?Yes, though it turned into a discussion thread which helped to increase the concept strength of what was being requested. So, that thread has been renamed to:
Discussion of the "Cybersecurity and Privacy" board + Polland this community vote will act as a formal voting process based on this discussion.
Why is this being requested again? The original request explored the idea within the community, gaining opinions and improving basis to form reason and structure - to-date this discussion counted:
- 241 posts discussing the topic
- 49 votes signaled YES to the request, 5 votes signaled NO. (throughout the discussion - votes may vary after all of the updates which is one reason for this thread)
- 2,200+ viewing the discussion at some point.
- 40 merits given to the original post, which details the request and supporting material.
This was just a rough poll and discussion to flesh out and strengthen the idea. Over the last few months discussion and new ideas for the request have stagnated, signaling that a formal request is now ready to made (hence, this thread)
Why is there no poll if this is a community vote? You need to fill in the following to make a vote:
Your vote: (Answer: Yes / No)
Have you read the OP of Discussion: "Cybersecurity and Privacy" board + Poll before posting?: (Answer: Yes / No)
What is your opinion on adding the board to BitcoinTalk?: (Answer: Please provide some insight into your reasoning/opinion OR quote a member whose reasoning you agree with)
If you don't have a concrete opinion, it would be preferred that you refrain from voting until you do.
How are votes counted?Votes will be counted in the second post of this thread. I will update that post multiple times per week. Quotes of each vote will be added to support the vote count, and quotes will be ordered by the detail given in the last question required to make the vote.
What is the goal to achieve a win on this vote? The goal is to achieve 80% consensus on a reasonable amount of votes. Based on the vote results of the
Discussion of the "Cybersecurity and Privacy" board + Poll, this shouldn't be a problem (90.7% voted YES during the 7 month period that discussion was ongoing).
Please note that even if consensus is achieved,
there is currently no mention by any staff member that the board will be added even if YES is the obvious consensus. An update will be posted if staff make a comment at any stage.
