I am no longer active during the times hilariousandco mentioned. I am no longer as active as I used to be. Similar points are likely true for the others on the list. In this case I think it was mainly the time as ~0500-0600 CE(S)T is not a common posting time. It wouldn't have made any sense to promote me just because I (still?) have the largest number of reports.
Relevance? I didn't claim that you were supposed to be promoted.

The link points to a list where shorena is at the very top spot. It appears to imply you don't agree with hilariousandco's statement; i.e. shorena would be promoted to Staff if that is true. He explained why it is not so.

Be a very active member and report a lot of posts with a good accuracy and if an admin thinks you would be beneficial they may ask you eventually. That's the only way really.
Top 50 reporters from last year. Roll Eyes

Shorena's total good reports is almost twice the next on the list. Difficult to see any other interpretation.
Lauda was implying that one of his sketchy friends should have been promoted to staff so they could move toward the kind of power that Lauda was ultimately unable to get. If you know Lauda, you should know who he is implying should be made a moderator....only that I would not take the concerns of a power-hungry extortionist very seriously.

Id also hope that those with a large number of reports do so not in an attempt to achieve a staff position
Unfortunately, it appears that one or two people somewhat appear to at least be trying to pad their report count.

Ultimatly the number of reports mean nothing,
It is fun to have bragging rights, and having a lot of 'good' reports can allow you to have a feeling that you are helping out. But no, report accuracy alone is not a good single indicator of if someone should be made a mod or not.

Relevance? I didn't claim that you were supposed to be promoted. I don't see a reason for promoting this seemingly unknown person in particular. If the primary requirement was being active around the time, why not promote Dabs or dbshck? Are they both patrollers?

Id also hope that those with a large number of reports do so not in an attempt to achieve a staff position, but because they want to help the forum.
Doubtful at best.

Ultimatly the number of reports mean nothing, same as your time logged in. It may be fun to compare from time to time, but its meaningless as single metric to select someone for moderation.
A high accuracy and number of reports means nothing nowadays?  Cheesy

Firstly contgratulations.

This is quite 'interesting' if you look into:
1) Events that unfolded at the time that the user registered on this forum.
2) Their past history on bitcointalk.

I guess some other, already established, moderators didn't deserve to be patrollers Huh

I guess this is the reason theymos refuses to post regular updates, because it will lead to 'points' like these. I would have thought you knew better, considering that you became staff mainly because of your language skills.

Well, I congratulate rickbig41 for this promotion, BTW what are the requirements of becoming a staff in this forum like reports? Giving negative feedbacks for those bad guys? Or what, just curious here. Or there are some voting for this like what happen to Lauda, but unfortunately, he got demoted.

Moderators are added when they are required. Every morning when I wake up there was often a backlog of about 20 reports to handle just on spam bots alone that had been there an hour or two and rickbig was one of the handful that was always reporting them. It was obviously a good choice because there have been zero for me to handle since he was made a mod.

Congrats Rickbig on your promotion ,I congratulated him in PM and i noticed his promotion while i was checking at a scammer posting fake dice site and linking to a fake seuntjie bot site .With the price rising expect these sort of scammers coming out with new techniques .

He is someone who reports many posts (does not make an attempt to report posts just to increase his report count) and extorts very few people.

Wow congrats, anyway, how to become a bitcointalk.org staff? Is becoming a Bitcointalk.org staff has a salary?

As some may have noticed, a new member of the Staff team has been promoted - rickbig41. Congratulations!

Not to discredit or disrespect this event, however may I ask why this user has been promoted rather than others? It seems like a somewhat bizarre choice from my perspective. Congrats regardless!
I have never seen someone with no trust feedback get promoted to staff nor have I ever seen anyone get promoted to staff but I think it is pretty cool that they are pretty new in the bitcointalk community judging by their account activity and they are now staff it gives me hope that this fourm will grow by having new individuals become staff and not just people with 1k+ activity.
