First world problems.

The much bigger issue is that stupid zero in the merit box. Why is it there? It's not like we can send zero merits. So EVERY TIME I need to waste my precious 0.1s to delete that zero or fight my shaky hands to place the cursor behind it before entering the actual amount. Worse yet, the box is not focused when the window opens so I've been very close to accidentally sending 40 merits instead of 4 when I click the wrong part of the box and the cursor ends up in front of the zero.

We should just scrap the merit system, it's hopelessly broken.

yes, i see that as a big problem. so 1 could quickly turn into 10.
i would appreciate it if the focus is in the field and no value is entered there by default.

I think when you give a merit and then reload the page, it gives the merit out again.
This has been reported before, but when I test it, my browser just asks me if I want to submit the same thing again.

Now that I can relate to! I'm always afraid I'll have to add a note in my reputation thread explaining why I merited a post with 10 times more than I wanted. So far, it hasn't happened to me.

Just happen to again a few days ago, I merited twice in a matter of a second (it was only 1 merit extra but still).
I know this has been discussed before, but since nothing has changed I just suggest to add a 1 second (or 2) cool down time after sending, just to avoid such mistakes.
I was just going to say I did this recently for a post by buwaytress, but I was wrong.  It was 2 different posts of his in the same thread that I merited.

However, I've made this mistake before, and it sucks when you're running low on sMerits.  I have what I'd call a nervous internet motor tic that makes me keep reloading pages.  Not sure if anyone else is afflicted with this disorder, but I think when you give a merit and then reload the page, it gives the merit out again.  I guess I haven't done it in a while, but I did it at least once when the merit system was new.

And yeah, it's a glitch that I do think needs some sort of fixing.  Theymos ought to come up with a good solution if he deems the problem serious enough (which he probably won't).  We'll see.

There was a suggestion about the negative merit or de-merit, it does not matter the label but you can delete it in the future as there might be such a feature.

There is currently no such thing as a "demerit". I'm hoping that the positive merits alone will be fine. I could add demerits pretty easily later on if necessary, though.

If the user deserves one merit, doubling that number would be an additional incentive and motivation for more posts.

An extra merit would not hurt you from giving it if you have more merits to give. Though I still support your suggestion about the cool down on giving the merit to a user. But in your case, it will not hurt you OP to give more for I believe that you have more smerits left. And best thing about now is to help every user to learn more about and motivate them. A little merit will be big help to a user whose endeavor is on cryptocurrency.

I have a bit different idea. Make Merits reversible. Give for example 5 minutes to cancel Merit that you sent. Something similar like Gmail have - you can delete emails after you sent - you have 10, 20 or 30 seconds to do that. Why not to do same thing with Merit. It really happens some times that user gives Merit twice, gives 10 merit instead of 1 or just Merit wrong user.

What will happen if the guy that received the Merit already has 0.5 smerits and now it gives it away?
Will also this transaction get reversed? What happens if there are two links in this chain already?

It might lead to some serious abuse.
And I don't see Theymos implementing it just because Iasenko here is so generous on giving it away  Grin Grin

@LoyceV, no comment. Shocked

OK then, it could be a option to toggle it on and off. So everyone are satisfied, except theymos because he is the one to implement it. Cheesy

That makes my "merit shower" sound more like a dribble. I doubt if I could manage more than 2 in a second. Smiley

A cool down period would be a nightmare for me - I need to click and run to look for ther next guy when I'm in my merit shower mode. Smiley

We are talking about a second or two here, not a minute. Are you sure you are that fast? I know LoyceV has some skills in meriting multiple people in a short time (if I remember correctly) so he can be more affected by this but I really doubt that it will be a so big issue.

How do you merit twice exactly? Did you press send 2 times in a row fast or what? You better start losing some weight with those clunky fingers.

I just click a second time because I thought that I miss the first click, but I was wrong. Anyway the guy deserved the merit so no big deal, but there was a case a month(s) ago with a guy who send 40 instead of 20, there is a difference for sure.
