It's a great thread, I like the importance that is being given to South American football, also the fact of having 6 Concacaf teams is something quite good, before they only invited Mexico and it was very good, now the Copa América will last longer time and it will be more exciting, it is also good to integrate the close confederations and with that you can see the high level that can be measured, many say that the Euroeas qualifiers are the strongest, but nothing to see, you have to see the South American qualifiers, where The players have hot weather one day and the next day they have to be at a high altitude where it is difficult to breathe, it is like playing in Barranquilla (Colombia, very hot) and then the next day they go to Bolivia in La Paz (very high), that affects.

in the 2022 world cup, US performance has actually increased, because they have started not only focusing on basketball or futball.
I have an opinion that it's not only the results that matter, and a world cup is something incredibly difficult, you can't judge only with those parameters.
I also agree that the US team has improved, they are playing very well, and if you compare with previous teams you can see that they are playing well and competing equally with other teams.
One important thing that is missing in the US team at the moment are at least two very high level players. There is Pulisic that can be one of those players, or Reyna, but it would be ideal to have a higher level striker.

The United States will have a good opportunity to develop its soccer by having the Copa America and the World Cup.
in last year's world cup, USA was eliminated in the round of 16 but in the concacaf league, they performed quite well with Pulisic, Reyna and McKennie who were USA's mainstay players. but seeing from Pulisic's performance which has been very stagnant in the last few months at Chelsea, I doubt if the USA team's attack line will be strong against mexico in the concacaf semifinals later. however, USA must be grateful for the events that will be held in their country because the world cup and Copa America are the 2 biggest football events in the world with billions of spectator eyes fixed on these events.

Thanks, in my region the games were broadcast by ESPN.

Brazil is still one of the heavy favorites to win this cup and they are one of the stronger teams together with Argentina who is still in euphoria because of winning the last World Cup last year. For Uruguay though, seeing the games of the last World Cup,they don't give much hope as they did not perform well, not being able to win against a weak team like South Korea compared to Uruguay says a lot about their form.

The fact that they will play in a neutral location like the United States add to the drama of the final game,as it is different than if some country was the host and the fans there would make a big difference if the host country got to the final.

I agree with you, it's obvious, but Brazil and Argentina are favorites.
About the Uruguay, unfortunately the generation of Suarez, Cavani and Godin is coming to an end (just like Argentina's team with Messi and Di Maria) and the main players are not performing as they used to and haven't found the way to play with the new players yet. It's going to be hard to beat the Cavani-Suarez attacking duo, they had a great partnership.

In the world cup the coach used Arrascaeta little, who in my opinion was their best player and made all the difference in Uruguay's result.
There are players like Valverde and Darwin Nuñez who are new and can help the team a lot, together with Arrascaeta I believe that Uruguay will be able to play good games and continue as the third force in South American soccer.
But to be Copa America champions I think Uruguay is on the same level as Mexico, USA and Ecuador at the moment.

Concacaf Nations League provisional preliminary (matchday 5 of 6) results are;

Quote
peurto rico 3 - 1 virgin island
saint kitts 3 -1 saint martin
french Guyana 1 - 1 Dominican republic
berbados 0 - 1 cuba
guadeloupe 0 - 1 antigua
suriname 0 - 2 mexico
anguilla 1-2 saint lucia
bahamas 0 - 3 trinidad & tobago
nicaragua 4 - 1 saint vincent
united states 7 - 1 grenada
guatemala 2 - 1 belize

there are only 2 matches that concern me, they are suriname vs mexico & the united states vs grenada.

- Suriname managed to put some pressure on Mexico, it's just that they have a bad front line and even an own goal by Dankerlui made things worse to make Suriname lose 2-0 to Mexico.

- the united states had great success by making 7 goals and pulisic made a good contribution (1 goal and 2 assists).

It would be very remarkable if Argentina also managed to bring the Copa America back home, celebration after celebration for people there.
But I would also like to see Uruguay winning the cup.

I have the hunch Brazil would not perform as well as expected, they may still have a low morale after losing their Chances in Qatar and the death of Pele.

The United States as host, does not have very good chances of winning, as usual. They are more focused into Rugby.
I actually think the opposite, after they failed to get the world cup, Brazil's target is the Copa America cup, if you meet Argentina in the Copa America match then I'm sure Brazil will win this time, the history of meeting the two teams is also very good and Brazil is slightly superior. but the news about who will be the coach from Brazil (substitute tite is still unclear) and the role of a coach in the quality of Brazil's play is very important.

Well, it is a matter of opinions, then. We will have to wait and see how good Argentina and Brazil perform this time.
On USA, I think they still have a long path ahead before they can call themselves to be a competitive team in the same way South American teams are.

If you know a bit about popular culture, you must be aware that for people in the United States, the super bowl is the most important sport event, even beyond the Copa America, even being the host in this occasion.

The Copa America is going to be hosted in USA in this occasion, really?
I could swear that relatively not long ago USA also was the host of one of the past Copa America. It would have been refreshing to see another country as a host, keeping in mind that the next World cup is also to be expected to take place in North America.

Anyways, eager to see if Argentina/Uruguay manage to win this cup and broke their current tie.  Wink

Yes, it's confirmed.
You are right, the 2016 cup, which was the Copa America Centenario, was hosted in the United States. It was a special edition celebrating 100 years of CONMEBOL and Copa America.
It was the first edition held outside of South America, and the first with 16 teams.
That year Chile was champion. with Argentina 2nd place.

Uruguay, despite being a team that always plays all the championships with great will, and they play well, I don't think they are the favorite this time.
Argentina and Brazil are more likely to be champions, since Argentina is the current champion of both the Copa America and the World Cup. And Brazil is always the favorite.

The last time Uruguay was champion was in 2011 and after that they never managed to get into the top 4 again.

And one more thing I forgot to comment on in my previous post, this competition is ideal for the United States, Canada and Mexico to play important championship matches, since the 3 host countries of the World Cup will not be playing in the qualifiers.

It's nice to see a thread about the America Cup, it's the first time I've seen it here.

I watched all the editions since 1997.

The fact that the cup is transferred to the United States is very good, will be a great preview for the world cup 2026, they can do several tests on fields, logistics, refereeing etc..

Incredibly Brazil is not the country with more titles, but Argentina and Uruguay with 15 titles each and 9 for Brazil.

This year I will bet in Brazil or Argentina, for sure the title will be for one of the two countries, since I do not see another team at the same level today, and we can see good bets to win money depending on the opponents of Brazil and Argentina (can have lots of goals).

it's nice to know that you are a big fan of copa america and what you say is true that brazil is not the winner of the most copa america trophies.
Does anyone know where we can watch the Qualifying matches (CONCACAF Nations League?)
