"And as far as your argument for pre-'65 goes, it doesn't make any sense. For one thing, it is legal to melt those down. "
Yes I trolled you in your thread, and then admited that it was incorrect. Pre-1965 were illegal to melt for a time and then it changed. Is this the part that does not make sense to you? This could change for pennies too as per example the silver coins. Canada has done away with the penny, and some other countries too.

"Pennies are NOT legal to melt down and thus are worth 1 cent."
Yes legal tender value is 1 cent. Material value is over 2 cents.

"And I have no goal of acquiring 100 pounds of these, I literally just pick them out of my change."
Good for you, you will not have a big position in copper when the price goes up. You can also pick silver coins out of your change.

Only picking these out of your change is like only going to faucets to get BTC, why pay for BTC? I can literally pick BTC out of the net for free.

Pennies with numismatist value have not been sorted out.

So I got my five boxes but I am very unhappy to say that after counting them all I only got 49,996 pennies and 4 of them were Canadian!!!

Just kidding, got the boxes and everything seems fine.  Grin

Jesus Christ Goat, did you seriously buy three hundred pounds of pennies?

Planning to drop them from a skyscraper or something?

" All I saw on the first page was IF."

I wrote IF because I dont want to mislead anyone. Buying these copper pennies partly a speculation that someday in the future it will be legal to melt them down simmilar to how it went with silver US coins.

"Copper bullion is worth peanuts anyway."

These are worth double the face value and you can get them from me for below spot in a 60 pound box that fits in your basement, under your bed or in the corner of your room. Of course copper will never be gold or silver and nobody is saying that.

"My solution: have a cigar box and chuck your pre-'83 pennies in there."

Yes I also suggest doing this since they are worth more than double the face value. When you get 60 pounds(100$) by doing this let me know.

"Doesn't it just seem illogical to anyone to pay more than face value for something that is (don't be mistaken...and I don't listen to "ifs") legal tender?
I'm sorry to knock you here and don't want to come off as a troll...but seriously?"

These are being hoarded in such a big way it is silly. Pre-1964 silver coins are legal tender and people pay more than face value. If you have a lot of time you can sort them yourself, or even buy a machine to sort them. Or you can buy them already sorted and sent to your doorstep, of course that costs more than sorting them yourself, but it will save you a lot of time.

Why should you pay more for a 1964 dime? You can find them in circulation. Yes there are not that many, I know. Why? They were hoarded and sorted out manualy and by machines.

"or developed some contraption to filter out the pre-'83s,"

My partner has lots of really really big machines with armored cars coming daily to supply them.

So you agree on the "if" part...good. And as far as your argument for pre-'65 goes, it doesn't make any sense. For one thing, it is legal to melt those down. Pennies are NOT legal to melt down and thus are worth 1 cent. If you believe so strongly that that will change then that is your prerogative-good luck. And I have no goal of acquiring 100 pounds of these, I literally just pick them out of my change.

if you are actually successful in melting these pennies into bars, how does one tell that they are actually melted pennies/illegal bullion??

You can't. But that is not really the point.

There might be a time in the future where people find the old silver face coins too valuable for daily transactions and start to use nickels or pennies. This sort of item would sell faster on a survivalist or a gold bug site.

Most people who have an interest in "digital gold" will not want 500 pounds of copper coins around but really it is not a bad way to diversify.

Right right, sounds interesting.. So this would have more value in kind of like a doomsday era. Or for exporting maybe somewhere you can melt these legally.

FAQ:
Is it legal to melt US currency? NO, it is illegal to melt pennies. However if they are done away with then it would be legal.
Canada is phasing out pennies (for example).

Can you ship outside the US? We can ship to Canada PM for rates.

Can´t you just do this yourself? Yes, these pennies are still in circulation. You can also hunt for silver quarters, dimes and nickels. However it would take a long time for you to hunt for 10,000 copper pennies by hand.

Why copper? It is used in most electronic devices as well as things like bullet shell cases and other usefull things. If you are a conspiracy theorist then you will see that the copper market is less manipulated than the gold or silver market.

Isnt the box of copper huge?! No, It is not that big really. It is kind of heavy though.

Can I order larger ammounts? YES! If you would like to oder one ton of copper pennies then get in touch.

PM or post any more questions
Thanks

that box is one enormous paperweright

You guys must have A LOT of time on your hands (or developed some contraption to filter out the pre-'83s, which would also take a ton of time). I always find these listings funny (they're all over eBay). To the person that said its irrelevant that you can't melt them down, they're still bullion...WRONG. They're a penny. They are worth 1 cent. All I saw on the first page was IF. Copper bullion is worth peanuts anyway. My solution: have a cigar box and chuck your pre-'83 pennies in there. By the time copper is worth anything (if that happens in our lifetime) you will have more than 10,000 pennies. Doesn't it just seem illogical to anyone to pay more than face value for something that is (don't be mistaken...and I don't listen to "ifs") legal tender?
