I was wondering how they got such a large follower base in such a short time. I guess I'm wondering no more.

exactly. they are phishing. They gather us into their telegram channel. and they change into another channel. wasting our time
Daily new airdrops is launched, in which many airdrop is scams, new persons need to be careful before filling these types of form. This types of forms waste all our time.

Why people like to scam other innocent people, we all should unfollow them and report to twitter but they may come with other name and fake airdrop in future.
Just be careful of Twitter airdrops, there are plenty of scam airdrops there. Verify first on the official telegram and their thread on Bitcointalk. It's highly likely a scam if the coin is existing and/or if the telegram is a channel.

Pretty low and stupid move from their end.
I noticed that the telegram group I joined was also changed. Aside from the name change, I got invited to other stupid telegram groups with lot's of "airdrop" spams. Decided to unfollow and leave all these stupid groups.

So many new project scams, new investors need to be careful now more than ever. There have been many scams over the years, but they are now getting increasingly complex and professional in the whitepapers, promotional videos, and ANN threads. Make sure to do thorough research on the teams before investing, and that those people are indeed real and part of the team, not just being used for their name.
Wow, they have mananged to get over 80.000 people on their telegram from this fake airdrop.

I signed up for Corbit but I don't think they got any real information from me other than an ETH wallet public address, an unrelated email address and my follow on Twitter and joining the Telegram group and their related usernames.
After I discovered it was all a fake scam, I left the Telegram group and sent a strongly worded reply to @airdropking_io's latest tweet before unfollowing & blocking.
Didn't think to report the account but I'm sure others will.

It is from airdropmania, the owner created fake Corbit airdrop to attract people to telegram group and then changed into airdropking.
