Nope. Nothing, not even ETH, could take that #1 spot Bitcoin is currently holding. Bitcoin development is looking good right now, so if you feel worried, just read the news. So whats up for Bitcoin? Korea and Japan upcoming regulation, the fees is no longer a problem, faster confirmation, and Bitcoin Core 0.16 is coming! Perhaps we will see an increase in segwit usage with the release of version 0.16

I'm pretty bullish on both of them, but I always felt like eth could not reach BTC value, because of BTC first mover advantage and the fact that its supply is limited.
Also andreas antonopoulos lets me stay calm when people around me start spreading FUD that BTC is dying and its a dinosaur ( FYI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBnC9AhKjws I know its not really up to date but the facts remain the same)

now as ETH is rising again I can read the same things everywhere, that ETH will overtake BTC place in crypto, but I can't really believe it.

What do you guys think?
i believe if btc will never bsia overtaken by any coin including eth. it happens because the strong position of bitcoin is currently very high than eth and eth is only at number two under bitcoin.

There are many discussion about this. I don't think ethereum will become biggest coin in the market personally. Bitcoin's real world usage is so much greater than ethereum. So my answer is no.
Ethereum and bitcoin are both having advantages and disadvantages in different ways. And I don't think also that ethereum will de-crown bitcoin, not even this year.

Most are concentrated on BTC and ETH, meanwhile a dark horse is coming fast from behind unnoticed. Wink

I don't know which, so your guess is as good as mine (maybe).  Grin

This is possible but I think not in 2018. In 2018 it will be bitcoin or ethereum and I think by the end of the year it will be ethereum. It is going from strength to strength while bitcoin is struggling to hold ground.
I think this is possible. Ethereum is gaining momentum in the race to take the lead while bitcoins are increasingly sinking into the bad news of the market because people often take bitcoin as a symbol to judge this market, it is very bad for bitcoin. I think that Ethereum can reach $ 10k in 2018 when the community is on ETH.

Lots of media are reporting on ETH too, and usually, when they do, they're very bullish on it and often saying how it's better than bitcoin.
There's lots of positive exposure and none of the negativity that bitcoin had to deal with.

but still, i think it will not de crown bitcoin just now. as bitcoin will also be coming up with updates like lightning network this year so scalability issue will be resolved to a certain extent.

Ethereum will not overtake Bitcoin in 2018. Bitcoin is the father of all coins and I think this will hold on for a long time. Maybe there are some real competitors in 5-10 years but they need to have a very good team and a nice concept to overtake BTC!

The shift of such crowning would bring drastic changes to the market, BTC has long prime and useful to stablise the market overall, but we have seems pretty bullish state of ETH where it doesn't get affected, still there are lots of coins are surviving due to BTC and crowning BTC would just annouce their death easily. Still i see no reason or benefit to pump ETH to a scale like BTC does cause many dapps are utilise their blockchain, when gases are too high they might just switch as there are many competitors flowing in like expanse, ubiq etc...

As much as I would love to see ethereum overtake bitcoin, I don't think we will see this happen anytime soon. Bitcoin is the undisputed king of crypto, and I believe this will remain the same in the near future.

neah, btc will always be n. 1

Being no. 1 comes with a very strenuous burden especially when you consider that Bitcoin has its own drawbacks. It simply is getting all the current attention because it was the first in the blockchain product line. But people are become better investors and are considering better investment opportunities as presented by blockchain enterprises.

Consider ADA and other new blockchain designs coming up. It proves that the current system leaves a lot to desire.

bitcoin is what we all know, eth heh what's that? oh some altcoin/crypto currency, I see :-P

long story short, I don't see anything replacing bitcoin, but bitcoin may go out of reach from our hands and become some sort of reserve currency in coming years.

Hence why it is being touted as digital gold. In the near future Eth will have its own set of competition, like it is to bitcoin, so the struggle for BTC's throne is a little more than a challenge for eth but also a competition.

I do not believe that bitcoin can be replaced by any altcoin on the cryptocurrency market. Although Ethereum is also very good, but to replace bitcoin, Ethereum needs a lot of conditions to do that. Bitcoin is still receiving support from investors around the world, as corporations accepting the use of bitcoin in their payments has proven that bitcoin will go further.

For me it impossible that ETH can de -crown bitcoin for now because asked what we have noticed it's rating, their gap of this two crypto currency was far from each other. But I know this two will remain on it's position to be the two of the highest crytpto currency in this planet.
Agree with you. Yeah, ETH is more functional now and it has a great future. But BTC now still has higher rating. “Old participants of crypto world” trust this and newbie begin with it, too (sure, not everyone). So, time will tell. For my opinion, “crown of price” will be on BTC, “crown of using” - ETH

I think that ethereum is slowly eating the market dominance of bitcoin itself. My guess for some years later and ethereum will able to take over the bitcoin as actual payment system.
Bitcoin is facing so many trouble with its scalability. That's why ethereum can take over the bitcoin.
Segwit doesn't help bitcoin a lot.

It could happen.Ethereum might go to number 1 place. But i think it won't be good for whole cryptocurrency ecosystem.
From current perspective implementation of lighting network is mandatory for bitcoin.
So in my opinion bitcoin should be in no 1 position.
