I think I recall seeing an election for  the Politics & Society board and I think it would be beneficial to do that again for these boards. Unless there is some reason why we are not adding moderators? AFAIK the budget is there.

It's down to the management to determine that, if there is room for more moderators on the payroll. It is definitely necessary as the battle to combat spam intensifies.
Also the member selected would have to be willing to take up the task, which is not an easy one.

(maybe theymos should implement the reporter badges with a few perks to encourage more reporting).

That would be really helpful, and it can target the lower ranked members who constitutes a bulk of the members of the forum, if you can have them actively fighting spam, for signature space or posting permission, the state of the forum would be that much better.
For higher ranked members I can't think of any befitting rewards for now. And my ideas?

These boards are either only moderated by a global moderator/admin or no one at all. These boards require moderators. Would we be able to get some of the reporter stats and elect among ourselves suitable candidates?

Most subs probably need a dedicated sub mod or two (especially the big ones like Bitcoin Discussion). If workload was distributed you could have those new mods actively patrolling those subs and handling things before they even need to be reported. Current staff are swamped and most of us probably don't go looking for things to do outside of the report queue and that's why boards can get messy quickly without people reporting and most don't because there's nothing in it for them (maybe theymos should implement the reporter badges with a few perks to encourage more reporting).

Can I suggest adding Hilariousandco as a admin or dedicated moderator for hacked accounts if they are willing too? There's far too many hacked account threads in the Meta board and hilariousandco seems to be the only one replying in most of them offering help.

Thanks for the vote, but if that was going to happen it probably would have been done by now. Theymos has said he's working on a recovery tool to restore accounts so hopefully that will be ready soon. As with adding more mods, we probably also do need another admin (whether it's me or someone else) and theymos did put both suggestions in the OK in principle, would require thought/adjustment/implementation category:

I'm not going to respond here in detail to all of these ideas. It'd be extremely long. I will classify them as OK/maybe/no:

Quote
• Dedicated sub board mods for most boards that don't have any mods or non-global mods already assigned (Bitcoin Discussion, Beginners & Help, Off Topic etc).
• More patrollers/mods who just handle sig spam or farmers.
• More admins or demi-admins added to help with account recoveries and other admin duties.

More mods/admins should be added sooner rather than later though because things only get worse and add to the backlog.

I remember hilariousandco saying that theymos gave him the list of top reporters in Bitcoin Discussion back in sometime around August
and was also told that Krishanapramod was the leading reporter there. Soon after that, I even read somewhere that Krishanapramod's reports were getting lesser, not sure if it's still the same now. You could try asking hilariousandco for the list, but I don't see anything happening from that.

He sent me them on August the 7th, but they were just the stats from the last 90 days. I haven't seen krishnapramod report anything in a while sadly, so I don't think he'd get my vote as it stands. He certainly was blitzing the reports for a while and also reported a hell of a lot of plagiarists but promoting people who aren't consistently active won't be much use. It would be helpful if theymos could give us the new stats as I'm sure many would like to see them as well.

Yeah that was an incomplete poll, I can tell you that. There were users like myself and I only had 100 reports and that's not enough experience to know which report is good or bad.

We recently had a thread voting for new moderators with no outcome: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/vote-for-new-moderators-who-deserve-it-theymos-please-take-a-look-5025152

And there have been several requests for official reporter statistics in this thread, again with no response:

I completely agree with your points, but unfortunately they don't seem to be high on theymos' priority list right now.

~and elect among ourselves suitable candidates?
I haven't seen any community voting efforts succeed.

That thread was opened by theymos: Who is able and willing to moderate the Politics & Society section?

These boards are generally more overrun that other places due to the globals and admins having other duties. I think Bitcoin discussion and project development should be the highest priority out of all of these.

I made this thread to try and help the admin team: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.38330392

But I got tired of doing it when nothing is being done as most of these members are still bumping their threads. I will start updating if it is helpful and accounts start being recovered.
