It currently looks like most of us will be stuck inside or at home for another month, or at the very least until after the Easter Holidays.
We at
Crypto.Games have decided to start a
Folding@home team, and we'd like to run a little competition with it. Firstly, let me explain what
Folding@home is:
F@H has been in the news a lot recently and seen huge increases in contributions, so if you already know what it is or are even folding yourself already, that's great.
If not, let me quickly describe what it is about: Folding@home uses your hardware while it is idle to perform scientific computations. Hardware in this regard includes CPUs and GPUs (eg an altcoin mining rig or your gaming PC, but also regular office PCs and workstations).
Among the top priorities for those projects right now is also one addressing covid-19. A more detailed explanation can be found
here.
But to put it in dangerously brief terms: If you run folding@home right now, you help fight covid-19.
If you want to join our team and contribute, here's how you set everything up:
First off, download the Folding@home client, you can find
all links to do so here (make sure you select the right OS).
Once you start folding for the first time, choose to set up your alias, and select a nickname (best one that is similar to your CryptoGames or Bitcointalk nickname, as you will use it to identify yourself).
Then select "
247983" as your team number. This is very important, as only this way we can track your process. Make sure you enter the correct number here.
After that, tweak the settings for intensity and when to fold depending on your personal preferences, if you're not sure, try a few settings and see how they impact your browsing/regular use of the PC.
Now that we've covered the basics, let us explain the current event:
Starting right now and until the end of April OR until we run out of rewards, we'll be running a team competition for most Credits completed within our Folding@home team.
We will provide a total of 0.50 BTC as a prize pool for this event, all prizes will be dealt via the tipping feature on
Crypto.Games, so if you do not have an account yet, sign up for one.
Briefly explained, this is how it'll work:
- 3 Groups: 1) Red Squad, 2) Green Squad, and 3) Blue Squad.
You'll be assigned to one of the three squads at random after posting both your Crypto-Games username and F@H username in this thread. If you have an altcoin preference, please tell us when you sign up, else BTC is the default.
Please use the following format: ("CG: #name# ; FH: #name# ; Coin: #ABC#") - For every 100k credits you complete while folding, you will get 0.0001 BTC or an altcoin equivalent. The maximum reward for one user is at 0.01 BTC, which can be reached with 10 Million credits.
Continuing after that will however still contribute to your group's total. - In addition to the individual rewards, you and your squad will compete against the other groups for the most combined Credits. For this, we will sum the credits of all members of a squad.
The first placed squad gets 0.06 BTC, the second gets 0.03 BTC, and the last gets 0.01 BTC. Rewards are distributed evenly for each and every member of the group, assuming they did complete 5 or more Work Units.
Those that can't get many credits because they don't have the hardware to compete; don't worry. We're reserving 0.05 BTC for these cases and you'll be rewarded with lottery tickets at our own discretion.
All rewards will be sent after the event ends. We will provide an overview with currently earned rewards in regular intervals, check the first reply to see updated statistics and current team members.
Also please note that it is possible that the event ends earlier if we run out of rewards for credits!
This competition is ran on both Bitcointalk and the
Crypto.Games Discord server. We will do our best to sync data between both places.
Please only sign up once, as there is just one competition running, signing up in both places only increases our work when keeping track of everyone.
Also, and this is very important, please don't try to cheat. We're trying to support an important cause here and we hope everyone can appreciate that and doesn't look to abuse the current situation.
We do reserve the right to disqualify users if we believe they act maliciously and are trying to abuse the competition.
