All my Casascius coins get graded and live in these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0042U9ASC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Albums are great for putting together collections like circulated mercury dimes and such, but for such high value coins such as Casascius it wouldn't work for me.

Nice.  I like these need to pick 1 or 2 up.

They get the job done pretty well.  I believe they were originally recommended to me by Blazed...

HabBear, the ANACS slabs fit a little bit loose compared to the thicker PCGS or NGC slabs.

Hey JUSTDLISK, my post was adding clarity to the thoughts of others...I had the some of the same initial response as others and since there were concerns about criticism I added some context to why people may have responded that way.

But I think teeGUMES and Lauda have the correct attitude about this. The more ideas the better off we all are.

In my post I also said "sounds like an interest[ing] idea." I'm a supporter. If you ignore this statement of mine you're submitting to the same "too quick to judge" mentality that others have demonstrated.

Do you have thoughts on your timing? When would you like to get this idea moving further?

This could turn out pretty cool. With my ever growing collection my red velvet case is getting overwhelmed. I recently bought a ton of old cigar boxes with plans to velvet the inside of them and store some coins.

A few of the members of this community are toxic, don't let them stop you from trying this out.. you aren't copying anyone with your idea, it's unique and I like it. Price it right and you'll do great. It would also help this community by having members actively seek the coins to fill slots that are missing.

I think Habbear summed it up nicely. Giving opposing ideas and stating where flaws can be found is not "toxic" but could prevent the original poster from wasting valuable resources. I'd rather people point out all the potential pitfalls at the start instead of just blind praise.

Yea go and read Lauda's comments. Then talk. So sick of half the community jerking that clown off and scared to speak out.

This is innovation, he did not portray his exact vision in his OP but that's fine because he was asking for community help. He even said he was going to buy the encyclopedia to aid him in helping him find each coin.. to be honest unless you know about the encyclopedia or see it on the first page of collectibles you may not even know that someone put that much effort into such an amazing book.

This forum reminds me of the segwit/BU fight for power. Someone new comes in and dickheads just shut them out right away. Let's see examples, a prototype before we judge.

Anyways, i am not sure why all the negativity, hopefully you guys will be more positive when the book is finished and see how awesome it is.

The opposition comes from your original post where you...

A. Claim that this is an original idea,

I never claimed this was an original idea, Please prove this statement. However it has not been done in the Crypto space !

B. Aren't completely clear that this is a book for one to house their collection, rather than a book that would be a directory to physical crypto coin collectors

I am super clear that this is a book to house their collections ( and always have been)! Others have not been clear about the difference between this and the encyclopedia.

C. You claim you're also going to list all of the coins in existence with their stats, yet you don't acknowledge Elianite's Encyclopedia which does the same thing and has been widely publicized and praised on this forum.

Your right, the fact i didn't know about the encyclopedia is my bad, i started collecting Crypto coins in 2012. The encyclopedia is awesome from what i have read so far.   .

Just trying to help clarify some of the emotion behind the opposition comments.

As for an album to contain the coins, sounds like an interest idea. One challenge is that a lot of coins (particularly Casascius) have been graded and slabbed. Maybe you need some flexibility in the type of pages that can be inserted so the album can be customized to meet the needs of each collector's collection.

You should not skimp on the quality of the binding and pages. Let the album represent the value that these collections of mosly loaded coins has.

I agree with all this  Grin[/quote

Give the guy a chance. He seems excited about what he's trying to do.

Feedback is good but let's not try to shut down ideas just because you personally don't like them.

If it doesn't work he will realize but if it does maybe someone would like it.

BitcoinPenny.com
Cool idea. I remember a forum member suggesting to me a few weeks ago that we (The Bitcoin Penny Co.) print/publish some of these cardboard collector books to fit our Bitcoin Penny commemorative coins. I thought it was a cool idea, especially since it goes well with the "penny" theme. In a few years when we have a few dozen different coins, we're hoping to make one of these. (Right now, we only have about thirteen (13) different varieties to collect.)

Might be a fun project. Good luck! Smiley

Interesting thanks for sharing as it could be useful.

If you read the crypto currency encyclopedia, there are ALOT of coins and most of these are not worth 1000's like how most nickels are not worth 1000's.
There is still a huge amount of low value coins out there which you could put in the book (if storing expensive coins in a book is a problem for you).
I think there is a market for such a bookor maybe a hybrid of what you are using.
Still in the drawing board atm

Wow, so much negativity in here. I think it's not a bad idea, but does need to be thought through a bit more.

I'm actually working on something very similar...

It does seem like a gigantic waste of time and money, but if you really feel the need to prove something then go ahead. Many people have raised sensible points and you are totally ignoring them - these are some of the core buyers for your idea. It is not at all practical to store these cryptocoins in this way and it's highly likely you will overlook simple things like the plastics interacting with holograms or metals.

I respect all of your opinions.
There would be a few coins per page, perhaps a series per sleeve, depending whether i stick with capsules or slabs. Maybe i can make custom sleeves for slabs.I also wouldn't be providing the coin capsules( i don't want a lawsuit for any interaction) only allow the space for it to be fitted.

I respect all of you as coin collectors.
I am a stamp collector, coin collector, stones collector & mining hardware collector.

I see an album missing amongst my albums and that is a crypto coin album.
If you don't get my idea then i don't really know what to say.
Its fine though, i am pretty sure if i get the design right and offer it at a cheap price,
the idea will at least breakeven and thats all i care about.
I am not looking to get rich from this.

I will update people when i have made new ground.
Thanks for the attention,
Keep collecting,
 Smiley

I'm not convinced on the idea but I'm curious to know how you'd plan o storing all those coins and bars in a single book... It's going to be one really really really thick book. Even if you were to limit it to one slot per coin, you're talking about a handful of manufacturers with a handful of products. To be able to create slot pages for all of them you are looking at more of a layered chest than a book...

Huh
More like a layered album with detachable sleeves,
New coins can be added by purchasing supplemental sleeves for them (when the sleeves is created).
Sleeves would have slots and information on the coin.
The hardest thing to crack is how to make the album look like it came from the year 3000.
It has to look futuristic and slick. Nothing like the existing coin albums.

Its a work in process.

But if you have a layer for each coin series you'd still end up with a good 15 or so layers which will need to 'house' coins and bars of varying thickness. The result would be a very very very wide and untidy looking album.

Terminated.
I am going ahead with the book,
You guys don't have to get one if you don't want to.
Thanks for the help  Kiss
Yeah!! Do not listen to any objective criticism, and create a totally undesirable and worthless item. I love this plan!! Where do I sign up Huh I would be willing to sacrifice 1 chicken for the #1 number of the book.

I also want you to create a 'the coin collectors album collectors album collection!™'. Note: This idea is owned by a piece of nothing™. He/she/it may have author rights over it.
