Looks very interesting, it really means something serious in future payments way and what makes me happy is that it's just a begining. But that worths more because of current price and that's not a big deal. However there is a chanse that economists will consider this fact as something that really worths to think to accept and integrate.

before comparing visa and crypto, I think you should know the type of both of those things. visa is not a currency, a visa is just a tool to save money and used for payment.

Exactly. Did you even read my original post? It states pretty clearly that I said "we've overcome one of the largest currency services." Note that I stated specifically that visa is a currency service. The sole purpose of this post was to notify people about how far bitcoin has come, not to compare VISA and Bitcoin. VISA's monetary presence is just a good comparison marker.

Take a look at this article that was posted just about an hour ago:

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/cryptocurrencies-surpass-market-cap-of-visa-at-285-billion/amp/

It seems like crypto currency really is the future; we've overcome one of the largest currency services that is used INTERNATIONALLY. I think that's pretty amazing and is a hint of what we may see in 2018. What do you think?

I don't know if they should be crypto directly but the future are online payment while it goes as the largest currency service used internationally it will keep increasing by the time.
Worth more than visa .. is like living the dream in real life ... I always thought Visa and Credit Card related business own the world for life ... big bag holders are on the way to the future!
Long live Cryptocurrencys! It's a great day to HODL!

HODL is a great motto, but for what? and yes, cards businesses own this world, no doubt. I can't buy milk in shop by using BTC, can you do it? No, so it isn't so optimistic picture for bitcoin as you have draw.

But Visa have more benefits that cryptocurrencies. At least, Visa can transfer more than thousands transactions per second. Company hasn't got too high transactions fees and allows to use its cards all around the world.
BTC and other digital currencies are great and will revolutionise this world, but... There are too many problems that must be solved.

I don't think it is best comparison at all. But cryptocurrency have big future as we can see right now. Big companies already interested, many governments too, there are enough hype in the mass media already. Ordinary people talk about bitcoin. There will be big price corrections as in the past but overall economics needs it.
Exactly, comparing cryptocurrency to Visa in this manner serves the sole purpose of fabricating hype. Sure we're growing at a rapid pace and by the time you are reading this we might have already hit/surpassed a marketcap of $300,000,000,00 but we still have a lot of internal issues that we have to fix before we should get extremely excited. But all in all I think this is yet another confirmation that bitcoin and cryptocurrecny is here to stay.

I think the fact that Bitcoin's value overcame PayPal recently is the most significant. PayPal is something almost everyone has used/uses to make payments online. The sheer fact that BTC alone is worth more now just goes to show that, as you say, cryptocurrency is here to stay.

Really? I thought VISA would be a long, long ways ahead of crypto. After all, people are still barely using crypto to buy things whereas VISA is used thousands of times per second all around the globe. This is a really surprising fact to me, if it is true that is.

On another note, why on Earth does it even matter? We should not be celebrating overtaking VISA, but instead when we destroy VISA altogether, then it will be a celebration. Tongue

I think that the BTC is moving too fast (and other crypto follow), which leads to crisis/bubble cause by human greediness. I like very slow and steady healthy progress more...

Reading the article, I would say its more of comparing unrelated items and from that trying to make one looks good more than the other. Visa is a payment company just like MasterCard or PayPal that enables people to have access to their money for those who relies on the debit cards as against the credit cards which you are allowed to spend more than what you have.

Cryptocurrency on the other hand is not just one company but series of coins being valued. Now comparing a ton of coins with a company and saying one is better off, is just an uninformed conclusion if you ask me.

Your primary point is correct. Is BTC still at least 50% of "total coin caps"? If so, then the article is somewhat valid since the top coins are showing signs of becoming truly huge.

VISA isn't a currency, it's just a way for people to process transactions in their own currency, it's certainly a big step for crypto but there's still so far for it to go, cryptos will do so much more than just facilitate transactions, a 1 tn market cap will be the first milestone I'm looking toward!

It is an apples and oranges kind of comparison in that you are correct, but since bitcoin and altcoins are completely different than anything that came before that is the only kind of comparison we are going to get, however even with all the transactions being settled in all the cryptocurrencies we are still far away from visa, that tell to us there is still a lot of growth for bitcoin in that area and when we reach visa in that aspect as well the whole market of crypto will probably be worth trillions of dollars.

I agree with you in the sense that they are both very different types of payment options. I do believe that crypto is much more versatile than visa and that visa is better for the average joe. However, what makes this interesting to me is just the comparison. Visa is known by practically everyone, and crypto has just topped it in terms of the market cap. That alone says something about how crypto may be able to scale into the future.

That really isn't even where we expect cryptocurrency to be even though it is obviously a good sign. The coins are already enjoying the impact of good news lately. We are looking forward to 2018 and to a time where the total market cap for cryptos I'll be in trillions of dollars just like in forex trading. Cryptocurrency is the new money and has come to stay.

I agree with your opinion that the transaction volume of cryptocurrencies will be able to surpass that of Visa in near future for sure.
