Sometimes people say ignorance is bliss, but I really don't see anything blissful about it, I was a victim of scam the first time I was introduced to Cryptocurrency, and I zeroed my mind that anything about Cryptocurrency is scam, until recently when I was rightly introduced to it by a friend which gave me the opportunity to join the forum and learn. Just like you said, I believe it's not too late for me as well!

I can imagine its a daunting task currently to make a start with CRYPTOCURRENCY, narrowing
ones focus to Bitcoin makes the task massively less daunting but not everyone will have
the foresight to do that and could get easily missled.

The forum here is a great place to start, more so than social media where one can get
bombarded with all kinds of Crypto "opportunities".

...Now, many of us—ignorant folks—are enthusiastic about cryptocurrency, but we don't seem to know where to start, what to learn, how to invest, the future of cryptocurrency and how to not be victims of scam. One thing that gives me hope is that I believe it is never too late to start, ...

The best time to start is NOW and dont dwell on the past which nobody has control over.

I understand your scenario and it quit well that everyone who indulge into cryptocurrency for the first time always been skeptical of cryptocurrency, because of it's lost, at this point people get discouraged into some certain things because of no population into the stuff, when people started turning into cryptocurrency is when the massive investment enroll into cryptocurrency industry, so the total backslide or things that make people to fade up into things, is when they are getting disadvantages or discouraged about something, and the genesis is been ignorance of particular thing.

Everyones has the same ignorance at first. There is no shame on saying that weve been a beginner and no thoughts on how cryptocurrency works. But dont be hasty since time will come that you can be more proficient on it and even influence others about it.  Adoption is coming to a more wider scope sooner or later and its always not too late to learn as much as information we can grasp.

I guess we share same sentiment, and by that I mean sometimes ago I had same fears as you, but self study and research increased and broading my knowledge about cryptocurrency, although am still learning on a daily but today's knowledge about it is incomparable to yesterday's.

So all am saying is, give yourself to self teaching by reading books and articles patterning to cryptocurrency knowledge investment and in no time you'll be amazed at your level of knowledge already gained.

You pointed out what made me not to embrace bitcoin earlier. Bitcoin came at the right time and also at the wrong time.
At the right time in the sense that after the 2008 fiat collapse. But it came at the wrong time because that was the period of risen ponzi scheme. The ponzi scheme has already caused havoc and bitcoin coming at this period was a negative coincidence and made people misrepresented bitcoin as a ponzi scheme.

Then, welcome to the forum. You must learn how this space work in order to be successful here. First, at this B/H board, check out for all the pinned posts, they'll be beneficial to you. All the resources to know about bitcoin is available here, you can find them with the help of search button in menu bar. If you don't understand, ask questions, but if the thread is too old, you can consider to create a new topic instead of bumbing it.

Cryptocurrency!, that's one of the most popular word in today's world but many who are familiar with the word do not really know what it is (means/entails). I happen to be one of the large population who see and/or hear the word "Cryptocurrency" almost every day, but yet don't know what it really means and what it entails.
I appreciate your humility to openly without shame declare your ignorance as regards crypto, it is with this sort of attitude that one learns and become better, i mean realising that you are a newbie to this space and acting accordingly unlike the bulk of newbies we see these days wanting to give professional advice as soon as they join forum.

it sounded like one of those schemes that come and go,  they always come to "steal, kill and destroy"; yeah, I've been scammed and I became careful and skeptical about subject (project or innovation) like this.
I understand your skepticism, it is not unfounded... there are many dubious schemes that associated themselves with crypto, but crypto in itself is not dubious, it is great you came to that realisation now as is not too late for you.

Remember crypto is not a get rich quick scheme, so to gain in this space...you have to be patient and give yourself time.

I understand what your trying to narrate as I was once in your shoes and I can tell, many newbies or beginners are too. Even I at this point is finding a little difficulty in grabbing some concepts at first glance and most at times, some of it seem so unimportant but later turns out to be a need to know.

The cryptocurrency development is still a growing field but yet, so vast for anyone to comprehend in total. The best yiu could do is start where you can, from that which seems less suffisticated to understand and gradually, you proceed to the suffisticated once. Know that it gets easier as you go, depending on how you handle it.

Not to mention, your in the best place (Bitcointalkforum) to cure your ignorance as, its extensively a learning field with users ready to assist, all you've got to do is make out time to be more involved and give reading a chance.

never too late is true. but when to take a position to start is what matters. because your first step is the most you should pay attention to. it is important to learn cryptocurrency first starting from the basics. if you don't know about the basics of cryptocurrency and you go straight into it. I'm afraid you will lose in the next step.
but if you have learned the basics. then it's right and means you're ready to step up and jump into it.

and I see you are ready. from your story I get a hint that you are a person who has studied deeply. and you look more experienced than me.
are you a complete beginner or are you someone who has been studying for a long time but is just getting into it now.
I do not know. but i wish you success.

welcome friend.

Now, many of us—ignorant folks—are enthusiastic about cryptocurrency, but we don't seem to know where to start, what to learn, how to invest, the future of cryptocurrency and how to not be victims of scam.
• The basics is the best place to start. There are so many useful content about storage, security. I've shared these links about learning in the past, and it could be useful here too;
This covers a good amount of Bitcoin basics: https://www.coindesk.com/learn/

This discusses about wallets and security: https://cryptosec.info/wallets/

• Investing would require some research, and you can use the forum for that.
The most common advice is to;
Only invest what you can afford to lose,
Buy the dip and sell the spike,
You don't lose, until you cut your losses,
Not your keys, not your coins.

• Majority of cryptocurrencies do not really have a future. Many of the coins now would not be around 5-10 years from now.
I would vouch on Bitcoin to b around for much longer however.

• To escape scams, treat every offer like a scam until proven otherwise.

Cryptocurrency!, that's one of the most popular word in today's world but many who are familiar with the word do not really know what it is (means/entails). I happen to be one of the large population who see and/or hear the word "Cryptocurrency" almost every day, but yet don't know what it really means and what it entails. At a point in time, it sounded like one of those schemes that come and go,  they always come to "steal, kill and destroy"; yeah, I've been scammed and I became careful and skeptical about subject (project or innovation) like this.

Back in 2015, I heard the word Bitcoin for the first time; every one I knew then—and I—would not give attention to it, we would not even give our time to finding out (reading/studying) about it, it didn't make any sense that year, but some people managed to invest there time, attention and money into it (though some did skeptically).

Few years later, it was Ethereum, while some were investing into this cryptocurrency, some of us still couldn't find the courage to follow the crowd. To me, Ethereum came just like those popular schemes that have raised people's hope and break their hearts at the end of it. I remember there was that popular and rampant word "FORSAGE", I didn't know much about it but I remember it had to do with having to register and then refer people (getting people to register under you); that sounded very stressful to me because I was not good at convincing people to do something (I was bad at marketing). The referral aspect also made it appear one of those schemes I mentioned earlier. In all of these, I didn't have nor seek the indepth knowledge of cryptocurrency, so, the Ethereum opportunity also passed over me as did the Bitcoin.

In recent years, those cryptocurrencies (Bitccoin and Ethereum) and many others have become so popular and valuable that they've liberated a great number of people from the cruel captivity of poverty: many people in underdeveloped countries have got their lives transformed, others have got financially stable that they were able to support their dreams, and many have been able to find something they do for living (perhaps they were even those who were broken by those scam schemes). The popularity and success of those cryptocurrencies also made many ignorant folks (including me) to be aware of our ignorance (something that was mostly birthed by Skepticism from scamming schemes that has ravaged us).

Now, many of us—ignorant folks—are enthusiastic about cryptocurrency, but we don't seem to know where to start, what to learn, how to invest, the future of cryptocurrency and how to not be victims of scam. One thing that gives me hope is that I believe it is never too late to start, though we (ignorant folks) have missed a lot of opportunities in past years, I am convinced that getting things right as a beginner would help make this journey into the cryptocurrency world a successful and fulfilling one, that's one of the reason I was (am) glad to find myself on this platform that has helped shaped people's knowledge of cryptocurrency and gave (still giving) people the opportunity to continually learn and impact others.
