What BigFred just said (he posted that just as I was finishing a draft of this my post).

--------------------------
TRY USING A WEB PROXY.
--------------------------

For example: You may be able to access cryptsy.com by using the Tor Browser bundle! This may also be true for any web site which at any time may become inaccessible to your local region of the world.

I am at this moment very grateful for the Tor Network, and the invention of the same. This is a custom Firefox browser which automatically sets up a Tor client, and connects the (custom) browser through that client. I believe this bundle is available for all major computer platforms.

Here's one place to find it (I am *not* affiliated with them, but the official Tor site(s) seem to use a certificate which my (standard, less-secure) browser doesn't recognize, so that it throws a warning about the page) :

http://www.pcworld.com/product/1252475/tor-browser-bundle.html

Right now I am personally able to connect to cryptsy.com through whatever exit node my Tor Browser is using. I can also log in and trade (I just sold some alt-coins), and cryptsy.com is properly recognizing transaction initiations to some of my alt-coin wallets there, when I send amounts of alt-coins to the same. However, I can't do any of this right now through my local ISP (and/or the web infrastructure local to my ISP. (How could that be??)

If I've saved you any trouble, you know what to do Wink Maybe for BigFred, too.

AND IF YOU DO IT, DO IT IN ALL CAPS! AND MAYBE DOUBLE-EXCLAMATIONS, TOO!!

be nice if big vern could drop by and give some idea of problem and reassure peoples concerns, as he must know this is where everyone will be discussing online

I agree.  Big Vern does a good job with Cryptsy.  But anytime a site like this goes down (not just talking about crypsty, but any site with a large user base and other people's funds behind it), the first thing the administrator should do is to "calm the masses".  He may not know what the problem is, and may be waiting until he does to tell us.  But I've always thought a simple "We know there's a problem.  We're working on it.  As soon as we get more information we'll let you know." goes a long way to help.

absolutely

bitcointalk is centre of altcoin universe, Big Vernon knows this

incidentally, UK geek here and still down
