Some users have encountered "fatalErrorMessage = "fromCompactAddress: Impossible: DecoderErrorDeserilizationFailure" error. (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.55952436)

When a node stops in the normal way, it first completes all I/O operations and then aborts the connections. By this it  achieves the integrity of records in its database. If the connection to the network is broken while I/O operations are being performed, the data may be distorted. And then at a second attempt to start the node a deserialization error occurs.

If you have such an error, the recipe to ensure that it does not bother you again, the following:

1) Delete completely Daedalus Mainnet folder . (But make sure you know your SEED folder first).

2) Create a new Daedalus Mainnet folder in the same directory as the old one.

3) Run Daedalus. It will ask you to restore your wallets. Restore via Daedalus  SEED phrase or by connecting hardware wallet, if this is the type of wallet you use. This will start a synchronization with the network. But you should not wait until it is completely finished. Close Daedalus when the percentage of synchronization will reach some X-value, for example X = 5 or 8

4) Back up your Daedalus Mainnet folder.

5) Start Daedalus and again wait until synchronization reaches the next X value. Close Daedalus.

6) Copy the Daedalus Mainnet folder and replace your old backup with the new one.

7) Repeat steps 5 and 6 until the synchronization is 100%.

If at any of the steps the node cuts the connection itself so that the deserialization error resumes, then delete the Daedalus Mainnet folder and put your backup in its place.  Node will not start from scratch, but from the place that corresponds to this backup.

The moral of this fable is to have at hand a backup of the working  Daedalus Mainnet folder , so that in case the node fails to start due to a deserialization error, you can feed  it working  backup.

Today updated to new 2.3.0 version of Daedalus. After the  launch encountered a problem with database rebuilding but after the third  try the process succeeded.  Starting from this version they promise automated update but I didn't find this option in settings. I don't like if it will be realy automated.  I would prefer to have the option to update manualy, automated downloud is OK, but I myself have to allow it to   be further processed.

Daedalus wallet? I don't know this wallet, besides it is too risky to use a wallet that has no good background history in the cryptocurrency business. Better to use the most trusted wallet like Myetherwallet, Trust wallet, Electrum wallet, exodus, Atomic wallet, and Coinomi, or Nano wallet.

It seems like you are staying   completely aside of ADA if suggesting those wallets.    Daedalus wallet is official one from Cardano team and designed solely for ADA. The wallet you have suggested will not keep it.

is this right ? with "
C:\Users\myname>mklink/J  C:\Users\myname\AppData\Roaming\Daedalus Mainnet  D:\"Daedalus Mainnet"

of course i change myname  to my real pc name  Grin

and when ready my cmd says: the system cannot find the specified path  Huh

Yeah, should be exactly like "Daedalus Mainnet"  due to the empty space between words in the name of folder.
The correct will be C:\Users\myname>mklink/J  C:\Users\myname\AppData\Roaming\"Daedalus Mainnet" D:\"Daedalus Mainnet". I have corrected my post above.

Here quotes are strongly required. They tell the system that the folder name includes characters that should not be used by default.

The system cannot find the specified path.  Huh
C:\Users\XXXXX>mklink/J  C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Roaming\"Daedalus Mainnet" D:\"Daedalus Mainnet"

Damn it. What am I doing wrong?

CMD  and type after C:\Users\XXXXX> prompt this command  mklink/J C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Roaming\"Daedalus Mainnet" D:\"Daedalus Mainnet"

Enter

That's all

Looks like you have typed before such comand C:\Users\XXXXX>mklink/J  C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Roaming\"Daedalus Mainnet" D:\"Daedalus Mainnet"  after C:\Users\XXXXX>-promt

how can i change the location of the chain ? i want to save the chain on drive  d: or e: and not on drive c in appdata
I tried this but without success .thx

https://forum.cardano.org/t/storing-the-cardano-blockchain-on-another-hard-drive-flash-drive/3699

The same question. I wanna install the new Daedalus 1.0.0  and keep the full  chain on my external drive. I have tried to follow all steps of  OP's task #1 but this has not led to any success. After installation the wallet has started synchronization  but, it seems, recorded the chain on internal drive assigned to OS ( Win 10). I have stopped synch   just to not waist my time. What should I do exactly to have the chain on external drive?

In order to ensure the correct installation by following the steps of Task #1 you had  to name the new folder on you external disk as Daedalus Mainnet. If you don't  do that the data base will be in default folder i.e. C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Daedalus Mainnet. If  this is your case and after installation  Daedalus launches- syncs without problems or difficulties I would advise you the following.

1) Launch Daedalus and let it to advance in synchronization  for a few tenths of percent.

2) Close Daedalus.

3) Copy the full folder  C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Daedalus Mainnet , attn! not barely its content, but the full folder,  and don't move it, just copy!

4) Go to external disk and paste what you have coppied. You have to end with Daedalus Mainnet folder  with the the same content as in C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Daedalus Mainnet. Check that!

5) Delete C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Daedalus Mainnet

6) Create symlink C:\Users\YourName>mklink/J  C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Daedalus Mainnet  F:\"Daedalus Mainnet"  where F  must be replaced with the letter that corresponds to your external disk. With CMD ?

7) Launch Daedalus.

What is this Daedalus wallet for? All in one desktop wallet or there is a coin bearing the name (Daedalus) ? Not everyone knows about this wallet you have to drop perfect details about what this wallet is all about

it is meant for Cardano - ADA coin, https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/cardano/, it is within top 20 coins, and was in top 10 last year, if you need more information, you can check links on CMC website

Just tried out the Daedalus testnet wallet for staking, and it looks perfect!

The task #3 has been updated and it is now relevant to new Daedalus wallet for rewards in testnet. BTW, what pool's characteristics did you consider when selecting it for staking: rank, margin or something else?

I didn't consider any factor while selecting the stake pool;

I do and  share my reasoning  in new thread opened for discussions:  Picking out ADA staking pool

Merited! You've done nice research on the selection of stake pool. I've not given it a thorough read, but I'll do it later and change my stake pool accordingly.

These days, I'm delegating to Lovelace's pool, as they've got zero fees and seems quite nice.

I didn't consider any factor while selecting the stake pool; the DIGI pool is of my friend Rick and I like the guy; that's the only reason of staking with him. Tongue

He's an active ambassador of Cardano/IOHK as well.

It's nice to have a thread dedicated only for the Daedalus wallet - nice work!

However, one major rule of the game:

NEVER EVER SHARE YOUR WALLET KEYS WITH ANYONE! Neither with strangers nor with any official customer support.

Thanks, from where I sit... by "WALLET KEYS" you probably meant SEED phrase as, AFAIK, Daedalus doesn't allow to extract private keys relevant to addresses it holds. There are in fact methods making  possible to reveal those keys  but ordinary user doesn't need that anymore if he keeps his SEED safe.

Yes, and beyond that, the paper wallet keys generated through Daedalus shouldn't be shared.
