Hello and congratulations on your 7900 series rig!

First, you would want to make sure you're using claymore v12.0, as those include the improvements needed to get those cards hashing again on Ethereum. But it sounds like ETH outgrew those cards.

We did create a user-friendly ready-to-go solution called PiMP OS back in 2012. This not only includes claymore, custom kernel and drivers made for mining, optimized config files, troubleshooting and diagnostics tools, and the miner.farm monitoring tool all built in, but also, works out of the box, hashes faster than most windows rigs, and boasts uptimes in the hundreds of days. Give us a try! getpimp.org has a video and more information. Let our experience and workmanship work for you. Thank you very much!

That being said, you might want to look at some other coins to mine as well as ETH, that may be more profitable. In the next few days, Ethereum is going to be changing their difficulty and block rewards. Those 7900 series cards are pretty boss mining cryptonight, so I would say, try Teamredminer or xmr-aeonstak and see if you can get some XMR or LOKI coins. These algos also run more efficiently, so you'll be all ready for spring and summer mining.

I hope this information helps you.

That's what I'm mining, or at least I was until the DAG hit 2.8Gb. Then both my 6GPU rigs stopped processing. If there is a way to resurrect them without buying 4Gb (short term) or 8Gb cards, I'd love to know!

Back to the top as my question is as yet un-answered.

I am asking because there does/did seem to be a way to mine ethereum with 2Gb cards even though the DAG was larger. But I can't find the right Eth knowledge page now..

Also "dagless mining" cropped up. Is that a thing?

this is alarming, i`m mining with 4GB cards and if 3GB is at its peak now then  im not feeling too good about 4GB...
thanks for the heads up, i might consider upgrading soon

4Gb cards will be good until April 2020 , of course if Ethereum doesn't go Pos before that time. In Windows 10 it may reach April 2020 a bit earlier because it uses some part of the Vram for Windows Os itself.

Don't worry though you have time until you reach the limit and you can always mine another algorithm.

Afternoon all. Noob alert, and with a thread resurrection!

I have a couple of rigs with 3Gb GPU's which all pretty much simultaneously succumbed to a "Watchdog error in open cl" and a "miner stalled" log entry on the CLI.
EthOS is the operating system and I'm using Claymore.
The DAG file was reported at 2.8ish Gb so I am guessing the OS is using the last couple of hundred Mb for itself and my ETH mining days are possibly at an end with 3Gb cards?

The big question is, is there any way at all to keep mining ETH, or do I need to hit whattomine and poke around in there a bit?

It seems the Dag file hit 3 GB, i keep getting out of memory on my 1060 3 GB mining ETH/ETC.

I guess this Month is it instead of next month ....Sad

https://investoon.com/tools/dag_size

At this rate that could mean 4 GB cards won't be usable for ETH/ETC mining in May/June instead of SEP 2018 .
I have in rig there is one old GPU hd7900 series 3GB. It works without problems. I don't turn it off because I have access to cheap electricity. I know that you have a different problem. I think the problem is driver compatibility. Need more description of the problem to find a solution.

Nobody mines ETH anymore with a 7950. There is a memory bug and it slows down the card.

Mine ZEC with your 7950, you should get 300 Hs

I think it's a lot more profitable for a 7950 to mine Ethash coins with a <2GB Dag file like PIRL, UBQ or EXP.

I have 7 of gtx1060 3gb, they can mine Ethereum fine for now.
But They cannot mine Ethereum Classic which has a slightly larger Dag file.
I tried to uninstall some windows updates but did not work.
Also they are all headless and virtual memory was already up to 32gig.

I guess that I will have to install windows Server or Linux when also ethereum will increase further the DAG file.

Did any one fond another work around?

Under Ubuntu, I can still use my GTX 1060 3Gb without any problem. Cards are using 2.7Gb out of 3Gb available. I suppose Linux takes 300Mb, is there a way to reduce this ?

You could disable the display manager and run your mining script over ssh, that should save a bit of memory.

DAG-3gb Epoch-256 Date-03/may/2019

You know that counts only the dag size right? Anything that the windows allocates has nothing to do with the dag file.

So to make it simple to understand it works like this --> windows allocation + dag size = eth mine or eth do not mine

Metroid is retarded, I have 10 GTX 1060 3GB happily mining Eth as we speak.....

Are you demented? Who said you cant mine with 3gb gpus? I never said that, I said, do not update to the latest windows 10 version if the gpus are 3gb.

My stuff is all up to date. Zero issues. I dont use displays, everything is headless.

Yes I know, if read the post i recommended moving them over to a linux build so you do not have to allocate anything to windows and then listed when the dag will hit 3gb be at a hard cap failure for ethereum. I was not even responding to your post although after reading it was why I said to just swap them to linux. The op doesnt talk about windows or anything else specific.

Not sure where you are timing this all out but 3gb cards should be good for a long time still Investoon.com shows 03/MAY/2019 as the hard end of life for 3gb gpu ethereum on block . Run on linux if windows is an issue. If you are looking at any calculations before the byz hard fork in October just remeber that the block times changed with that and adjusted how long all cards have based on DAG alone. Here is an example of a decent projection.

3 of the cards are standalone on mini ITX mobos all running windows 10....

So yeah, I dont know what people are talking about but I can provide proof you CAN mine on windows at this time.

The amount of VRAM used aside from mining seems to depend on the installation... I have 4 rigs running Win10 and 1 running Win7 and no two of them use the same amount of VRAM. Windows being Windows, I suppose.
