maybe a stupid question, is there no way to put this additional memory need on the onboard gpu and leave the other GPU alone?
yes, instill windows server or Linux and don't connect a display to any of the 1060 3G

No. Windows 10 reserves 20% of each card's VRAM for some weird reason, perhaps to smooth out performance issues in gaming.
Windows 7, 8, older builds of 10, Server 2016 and Linux don't have this issue.

Other than switching to Linux is there anyway to get a few more months out of the 1060 3G on windows?

"-eres 0" in claymore and you fix it! working..
It will break in 1-2 weeks. That's a temporary patch so you can get your sh*t together and install something else.
Windows Server 2016 and Linux is the way to go if you want to mine ETH with 3GB cards.

wait wait what you mean? windows server 2016 can mine eth with more than 3gb dag?

no. Windows 10 takes +600mb from the 3Gb but not Windows Server 2016 and Linux.

Increase Virtual RAM on hard drive to just over 16GB. I have a 50GB HDD and it is doing fine.

Use "-eres 0" on claymore for ETH, after the dag file gets too big, switch to other ethash coins like Ubiq, Ellaism, Expanse, Musicoin, Pirl and Metaverse.

Thanks for this. I was using Phoenix and ran into the memory error even though I boosted the page file size already. Some windows update screwed things up.  This worked for me using Claymore.

If you're using Claymore, make sure you have enough RAM in your rig (8gb+ physical RAM) for ETH mining. If you have less than 8GB, make sure you set your virtual memory within Windows settings to 16GB+. With the latter, make sure you have enough free disk space on your SSD/HDD. Failure to do this will cause significantly less hash rates and can cause issues when creating the DAG.

I'm still mining with 3GB 1060, no problem at all.

me too. win10 with all latest updates. my 3gb 1060 isnt having any issues.

try using onboard graphics or not puting a 3GB card as your primary display.

is the memory reserved for all cards? From what I see on Linux, only the first card is getting close to the limit, the system doesn't use additional memory for them.

Yes. Windows does that on all cards.

I think OP is asking about ETC, not ETH

Eth is dead for 1060 3gb as window 10 seem to reserve over 600mb of ram on the cards. Just wondering if there is a way to prevent windows from doing that.
