Need some name suggestions for the site for right now just borrowing a subdomain.

I have like BitBrawl, BitDebate! don't know ...but will get a formal domain shortly for it. I'll throw up a landing page tomorrow.

Also, the first topic will be the pro's and con's of Bitcoin of course have to start off with that topic of course so if you are interested in debating leave a message below.  Be prepared to speak on both sides of it 15 minutes in length then you and your opponent will switch sides. There will be a voting system as suggested by Franky1 as the following:

0.1BTC if you agree 0.3BTC if you strongly agree 0.5BTC if that guy completely "pwnd" the other debater.

This will be one of many topics I'll offer everything from sports to the gun debate to whatever is the latest hot topic of the day!

edit: provide a clean bitcoin payment address also.
bitbrawl sounds a good name

and the 0.01btc 0.03btc 0.05btc would work great, then if for instance there is 2BTC total at the end of the debate you know thats 200 votes (based on a 0.01 per vote) where obviously some have strongly agreed = 5 votes in one shot(button press).
good suggestion on reducing high vote prices Cheesy lol (which i put forward Cheesy)

so all you need to do is have the API to show total received and divide it by 0.01 to get vote totals (well blockchain.info's API gives u satoshis so it would be divide by 1million Cheesy to give you how many 0.01's got submittted).

and at the end of the debate you will obviously need to have a 10minute 'pause for anticipation' of final results (just to get all vote submits 'confirmed' to avoid double spenders fixing votes).

overall it seems like a easy to use platform with minimal coding/maintenance from how its described. cant wait to see it in action

Yes, going to do BitBrawl.   Yes, there is a real-time running count total so can tally up all votes after 10 minutes 'pause for anticipation' of final results!  10 minutes or so for all the confirmations Wink  I try to make it pretty dead simple with any kind of coding/maintenace  ( its really just to be fun!) and obviously if people like it will build it out properly I think you'll enjoy it! I'll post the landing page here tomorrow morning maybe have 1st debate Friday night or Saturday night! wish me luck!  Grin

Now that I think about it might be hard to round up some people to debate the issues haha .... I have a feeling we'll have a lot of people in masks!

Eventually 2 naked women will debate something.

Participant A assigned Bitcoin address A.

Participant B assigned Bitcoin address B.

Audience pays into either address as they deem fit.

Winner determined.

All bitcoin paid is combined, 1/3 goes to Winner, 1/6 goes to Loser, 1/10 goes to host/service, remainder is split among those audience members who paid to the winner's address equally.

Not bad!

Why not have the debate topic manager choose which type of debate payment system they want to use at the time of listing the topic? it would give them more control and help the community as a whole decide which method is more popular as well

"You sir, are completely wrong and FOS."

"What?  Never!  I challenge you to a DeBit in a public forum."

"Very well, we shall settle the matter like gentlemen!"

"Good, prepare to lose your coins my friend."

*DeBit ensues*

Basically, this ^^.  It's almost like a way to arbitrate issues and get a verdict on all the drama that goes on here in this here forums.

good idea about the deposit upfront. (if later development required it)

but i was thinking this would be more useful if it was a fee to pledge their attendance only (to avoid no-show's) where they get it back just by turning up.

if i had to pay upfront and know not only voting profit, but my initial fee was on the line if i didnt win/was a crap speaker. my emotions would be heightened as id be even more concerned about losing. so professionalism would go out the window, as would temptations to even participate if there was a 50% chance id lose out.

id prefer a deposit redeemed purely to ensure successful attendance. and have the votes as the 'treat'. That way by debating valid points, and making valid argument rebuttals earns you more money then the other guy. without any risk of loss to cause an emotional outburst.

basically knowing if i sound like a knob, not many will vote for me. so it only requires the votes to keep emotions in-check.

Agreed with this. What I'll do is put a "deposit address" next to the date/time scheduler idea you thought of. This way we know they are serious about debating.  Also, more skin the game brings out the best in people ......OR the worst.....

To keep things prefessional, timely and better regulated, require a deposit from presenters that they get back if they win the debate, unless someone on their team who also makes a deposit can do a better job at making the point and followup arguments, in which case they get both deposits.

Good thinking. Keeps everyone honest, professional and regulated good point.  At first, since I'm sure there will be hiccups to start , I'll probably keep to pure bitcoin votes to start and go from there.

Now that I think about it might be hard to round up some people to debate the issues haha .... I have a feeling we'll have a lot of people in masks!

thinking about keeping it low mainantence/self reliant
on the "want to debate?" page you would have time slots and people just pledge what times they are available to be there... until it finds 2 matching categories and times. to then schedule a debate on the public listing of upcoming debates
Code:
USERNAME:[          ]
EMAIL/contact method:[                ]
TOPIC:[               ]
AVAILABILITY: time based on []asian  []UK     []US
monday: []morning  []early afternoon  []evening
tuesday: []morning  []early afternoon  []evening
wednesday: []morning  []early afternoon  []evening
thursday: []morning  []early afternoon  []evening
friday:[]morning  []early afternoon  []evening
saturday: []morning  []early afternoon  []evening
sunday:[]morning  []early afternoon  []evening
so if someone from a UK timezone was free in the evening and someone from US was available early afternoon. it would match them. (due to the time difference)

then all you have to do is contact both matched parties to agree on a set time both agree with.
maybe have the time selections more defined then the example i gave, such as by the hour. to keep maintenance/running the system to a minimal

and then add that match to the public listing schedule of upcoming events

First suggestion bitbrawl would be a cool name but I think something like coinonyourside.com (not registered) could work as well. Also maybe just take those amounts to .01, .03, .05 just given the current market value, remember this is voting. Or you could also have like a button voting system, but have the coins count much more so maybe voting by button is half a vote and the coins are equalled to whole votes. So if I vote .01 that would be one vote .03 that be 3 votes and on and on.

BitBrawl was one that jumped out at me also.  Coinonyourside.com is pretty good also will take that into consideration.  Hmm good point smaller means more votes I'll adjust to those amounts to reflect more then one vote. I currently have a button voting system. I didn't want to make this to complicated and let everyone's bitcoins do the talking so to speak  Grin.

I think it will lead to more factual, interesting debates. If someone knows the issue, they should be able to sufficiently argue both sides. It might help with biases as well?

+1 In fact, this is common practice in debate classes and is a good idea all around.

Livestream is an option for sure I was using tokbox

I really like this idea (that's why I came in!) but I have the feeling that it will fail so long as video is a requirement. Bitcoiners are still, as a majority, horribly afraid of revealing their personalities and likenesses for fear of trolls and other things. Most of the people on this forum won't even give their real names. I think removing the video and allowing just "live arguments" by chat would suffice. It's less sexy, but bitcoiners (the ones who hold bitcoins) will be more likely to participate.

Just my two cents. I'll be happy to support it just the same as I love debate!

Wear a mask and change your voice!  Grin

Haha. That's not a bad idea for a gimmick. "Strongbad, the negotiaTOR". Someone with his voice can debate things with excellent points like "Itza just really dumb Man!"
