To tell the truth, it's very shady and outrageous for me. Trying to keep away from it. Maybe I'm wrong and time will show 
What is shady about the project, it would be helpful to provide more details about your own observations, for me nothing is wrong about the project, the only issue I have before was that it seems the developer is centoring their forum but with time, I could see some people are abusing the process and real actions need to be made

People throw the word scam around so much it's lost its meaning. What's rubbing some people the wrong way is that the dev has a lot of Onions in reserve; so thus he could get 'really' rich off of this. Ummmm... yea, I hope he does!! I want the Onions I have to be worth something as well!
The biggest problem is that it's supposed to be proof-of-stake. But users cannot meaningfully stake because the developers are staking with the pre-mined coins. The developers control the vast majority of Onions, which means that the community has zero say over (and did not consent to) the developers massively inflating the supply.
Staking difficulty is so high as a result that DeepOnion's POS system is merely a means to inflate the supply directly into the developers' pockets. It obviously can't be used as a meaningful consensus mechanism when a few people control the vast majority of supply.

It's an interesting project. I've not been involved yet, but it's clear that it is generating a huge amount of interest.. one to watch for sure.

I dont really involve deep onion. I dont really know much about this coin. but from what I observed deep onion has a pretty good project.

What I know about this token is they are giving a large bounty and they are not conducting ICO thats all. maybe I have no time reading all the informations about this coin maybe sometime when I have free time I'll take a research for this.
You can also get some nice insights into the activity of the community by joining into the deeponion community itself. https://deeponion.org/community/. They now also want to do some crediting system within their own forum for quality contributions. So they are really focusing on to enlarge and motivate the community.
Deeponion has a bright future. It has a helpful and supportive community and hardworking group of developers.

It is definitely one of the most interesting crypto project out there. The developers are very active and distributing coins to the community members in an airdrop in a thought out process. Seriously people -- always use the official wallets! Don't use these 3rd party wallets. I am starting to think that 3rd party wallets are created for the sole purpose of stealing people's funds....
