IMO defi is just rebrand and slightly modified smart contract where most things promoted as "defi" don't have practical usage or not really decentralized, so i doubt we'll see many good DeFi discussion.

If people really want quality discussion which related to altcoin, using Serious Discussion section or create "Serious Discussion" thread/board for altcoin is slightly better idea.

Do we have some section in forum for Defi projects and new tokens listings?
I looked in all forum and can't find it.

It will be great to have a DeFi section but admins are probably waiting to see if the DeFi hype doesn't fade away. Or they might be planning to do that already. Creating forum for new token listings though can be alittle all over the place but i guess it's still a good idea

This is a nice opinion and i thin the admins should consider creating a section for it. Also we might conscider if it is necessary because other sectors in cryptocurrencies has not gotten any forum here. the Defi era as we are experiencing might not last long. so much to consider before creating it here.

Three newbies demanding and suggesting for the defi section which is quite surprising.
I understand few people will become millionaire from this new defi scheme but many will again have to lose their money in this new hype.  Sad

it is Bitcointalk.org not Altcointalk.org. What is the difference between it and other projects like ICOs, IEOs, and tokens?
Defi has become popular because some expect the market to recover again, just as it happened in 2017, but it does not change the fact that the projects are a way to make their developers/first inesvtors rich. Why should we help them?

@theymos is the only one who can create a new section, and I don't think he will.

Did we have seperate sections for ICOs and IEOs ? We did not because it was part of the altcoins and can be merged in altcoins sections. DeFi is no different and hence can be including in the same section. There is no need to give DeFi so much importance by creating a new section for it.

First, there was Bitcoin.
Then people realized they missed out on buying it cheap, so they created altcoins. The creators started with many coins, and after hyping it enough, they could sell it for more Bitcoins!

Next came ICOs. People who missed out on creating altcoins started creating useless tokens out of thin air. Thousands of websites were created, all with the exact same layout, buzz-words, animations, pictures and promises. All with the same spam campaigns all over social media. All of them planning to disrupt an industry that does't need a blockchain at all. The large majority of them never created anything real, but the creators got very, very rich. Many "investors" lost large amounts of money. Rinse and repeat, I have no doubt the same small group of people must have created tens or even hundreds of ICOs.

Then came Forkcoins, the next big hype! Fork Bitcoin, and suddenly every Bitcoin owner owns your Forkcoin too. It created a nice opportunity to instamine a bit more for yourself, hype it a bit, cash out, and move on to the next one. They've even gone to the point of Forking Forkcoins for more profit.

And now the next big moneymaker is being hyped. Staying away from the altcoin spam boards is no longer enough, I've seen it in Meta several times already.
Let's not create a board for every new hype created by altcoin millionaires who abandoned this forum the moment they got rich.

This is really not a bad idea in the first place since we have an Altcoin section here in ghe forum even if our forum is named after Bitcoin. Althought I have to agree with the others that having a DeFi section might be too much since technically they are still tokens for decentralized finance projects so maybe the best middle ground here is having some kind of childboard for DeFi projects within the Altcoin section. However this will only be possible if there is am actual demand for one since theymos won't create another childboard if there will be no readers.

It should be merged or can be found from any of these sections.
- Announcement (Altcoins)
- Token (Altcoins)
- Service Announcement (Altcoins)
We can't just add different section for DeFi, yet they are belong to the altcoin discussion but we can have it in the future if DeFi project progressed their way and I'm supporting it.

But let us consider the fact that things may never look as it is now, the admins might just regret adding a separate section for DeFi and no one talks about it in the next couple of months.

DeFi is best on Altcoin discussion, you can create thread on that board.

Actually having a defi board is one of the things I was going to suggest. I missed out on the alts by being a Bitcoin maximalist and believing it was money and would never be a currency.. The banking system will need to have a reset, and this will bring down the current fiat system. Obviously there will be some form of defi alternative to the replacement system, and it would be good to talk about it.

Looking at it from the perspective of Theymos, he will not want to create a new board that has little activity, and there we should demonstrate that rhere is support for this board if we want it. The best way would be to start discussions in one of the existing boards. I would suggest economics for meta discussions. Politics is a bit busy, and over run with threads about some virus which has so many aliases, that I'm not sure of the popular one of the day. Alts could be OK for specific defi projects. Where do members think we should have defi discussions?

Thought I was the only one that noticed that and also presumed same with the board for spamming thing. Nevertheless, the forum can't keep up with the creation of new section for every new trend that comes into the industry. DeFi aren't new they're just be rehyped. Basically they're all lending/loan project that we have seen before just getting rebranded to suit the ongoing trend. Even the new ones aren't introducing anything much new. Now imagining creating a section from every type of  crowdfunding out there, that'll just be stupid since they all can fit under the altcoin or token announcement board as irrespective of what the heck they say they're, them coming into this community is to make an announcement of their new project.

Now if we have another type of cryptocurrency that aren't coins or tokens then it'll be understandable when the forum decide to give them their own section but until then everything fits well under the altcoin announcement section.

Anybody else noticed how the OP and the first two newbie profiles which never showed any interest in how the forum runs in the past all of a sudden commented on this topic in a space of minutes?  Grin
Now, that's Classic altcoin board thread spamming and bumping on display. All the accounts belong to OP. I guess the forum is too small for him and he's looking for one more board to bump and spam.

I don't think DeFi deserves it's own section yet.

According to Defipulse, there's around 4 billion locked up in various DeFi protocols and platforms.

As such, the entire DeFi ecosystem is roughly the same size as Cardano and Litecoin, and yet even these don't have their own subsections.

For now, I think it's fine to keep threads about DeFi in the altcoin section, since it helps to diversity the mindless spamfest the altcoin discussion section has become.

agree on spamfest in altcoin section, but could not agree that money involved should be only condition for new section, yeah Cardano and Litecoin have larger marketcap that money locked in DeFi projects, but this is completely new technology that should be presented to broad number of users, and Cardano is basically new platform for smart contracts, a copy of Ethereum, and Litecoin is a new and faster Bitcoin, basically copy as well

I do not visit the Altcoin section regularly so I don't know much about Defi and whether it desrves its own sub-section or not. Generally, a new sub-section is added when there is too many threads about a specific subject overwhelming the main section.

Your topic made me curious so I took a look at the altcoin board and found only three topics about Defi on the first page!
There are more interesting subjects that don't have a dedicated boards, so I doubt this one will have its own any time soon.

Defi projects are another form of altcoin projects; therefore, we have such section for posting Defi projects. I don't have much idea on Defi projects though. Announcement child board under altcoin project is the appropriate board to post them.
it is Bitcointalk.org not Altcointalk.org.
I guess bitcointalk has now turned into cryptotalk. The forum isn't limited to bitcoin discussion only.

I guess that also and if there will be one in the future it will be just one more section that Scammers can post there Shit !
Also there are so many Users that posting in the wrong sections when they do an ANN .
Specialy in the Altcoin Announcements i see so many Token related ANNs.
Dont know if they cant read but the Token board cannot be overlooked normaly.

LOL more fresh accounts posting here to make up an appeal for adding another section. Seriously these guerrilla tactics from "wordspinners" and shill-marketers need to improve beyond the realms of "Why is it not there" "Cant find it anywhere".

In short, DeFi just another rebranding of the failed trains of ICO, STO, IEO and instead of using the similar sounding name they came up with another buzzword and now it is being posted everywhere.

Not that I am saying it is bad. Someone will make a lot of money with it, if they are the one running the scam obviously. Grin

I prefer to keep my importance to proper use cases and MVPs that are being developed and the only one working till date is bitcoin. No go figure if we need another section or not.

For the nth time, this is a bitcoin forum lenient enough to run an Altcoin section. Tongue

Someone made an overview of DeFI projects - Overview on DeFi - a new hot trend in crypto

I don't know if that's what you are looking for. If you feel the need to discuss another topic related to DeFi, you can also use the Service Discussion (Altcoins) board.

To answer your question, no, there's no specific section dedicated to DeFi on the forum, but it can fit into a variety of boards in the altcoins' section depending on the context of the topic.
DeFi has attracted quite a number of discussions and could have a child board, this however is up to the admins to decide, for now you can use the forum search option to discover posts and replies related to it.
