Hedera Hashgraph started opening up testnets to a wider audience of developers.
Hedera SDK is written in Rust, compiled to C, then wrapped in your favorite language.

There are few fundamental guidelines to Hedera SDK strategy:

1. One code-base to rule them all. We’re writing the core SDK in Rust. We chose Rust because it’s safer, faster, and compiles down nicely to C. This is great because we get Rust and C SDKs right out of the box. We can then wrap the C SDK in any language. These additional language interfaces will reference the same C artifacts, making it easier to enforce consistency between different languages, especially when it comes to things like cryptography, key management, account management, Protobuf API interfacing, and network config management.

2. “More languages” is more important than “more functionality”. We’re starting with 5–6 languages that will expose the most basic functionality to support micropayments. We’ll then build out functionality until each language’s SDK reaches a minimum viable product (MVP) state. Future MVP functions include file service, claims, smart contracts, multi-sig accounts, and some initial transaction and query validation. Those languages will include Rust (duh), C (duh), Go (wrapper), Python (wrapper), and Javascript/Node.js (wrapper).

3. Using a builder-pattern makes transactions more fun. We were tempted to build a very comprehensive and object-oriented SDK, but realized that trying to be “everything to everyone” is a failing strategy. SDKs are meant to make things easier, so let’s focus on use cases first. The builder pattern is more conversational (example below).

Hedera18 Hackathon Global Winners
Sixty-seven teams competed in the first ever Hedera hackathon, on Oct 15 - 16th, in Bangalore, Dallas, London, Moscow, Paris, San Francisco, Singapore, and Tel Aviv. Winners from each location were then entered into judging for the grand prize of $50,000.

The global winner was Payper, a Romania-based team that competed in the London hackathon. Payper enables web-based micropayments, a critical component of the open API economy. It was demonstrated using HTTP, making it easy for web developers to integrate into their applications. The team members were Alex Males, Eugen Males, Alexandru Popa, and Vlad Suciu.

Hedera’s Co-Founder and CTO Leemon Baird is the creator of the ‘hashgraph’, a distributed ledger technology that provides a new form of distributed consensus; in other words, a way for people who don’t know or trust each other to securely collaborate and transact online without the need for a trusted intermediary.

The Texas-based company aims to solve the trade-off blockchain technology currently faces combining a fast, secure and scalable solution. While current offering has been unable to maximise both security and performance, Hedera Hashgraph’s new way to arrive at distributed consensus doesn’t require a compute-heavy and slow ‘proof of work’ consensus mechanism. It will use the “virtual voting consensus algorithm” which runs extremely quickly.

“Hedera Hashgraph aims to run transactions at least 1,000 times faster than other cryptocurrencies”, CEO Harmon said.

Allowing faster and secure transactions will open the door to ‘micro-payments’, making wider commerce adoption a reality.

In an interview with VentureBeat, CEO Harmon mentioned that as part of their development agenda Hedera Hashgraph is creating public applications programming interfaces to enable three services:

a cryptocurrency as a service with native support for micro-payments;
a distributed file storage for the network that can be used by smart contracts, or programs that run on the public ledger and;
smart contracts based on Ethereum’s scripting language, “Solidity”, which will make it possible to build distributed applications that run on the Hedera Network.

Specifically, to protect the network from certain classes of attack, we anticipate that the CIRCULATING supply of tokens will remain below ⅓ of the total supply for at least 5 years.

Finally, we do want to caution our community to be careful. We know there have been scams pretending to be Hedera, and no doubt those will only increase with our announcement of the crowdsale. So, please use the following precautions if you do plan to participate in the crowdsale.

As i understand SAFT coin - is their coin (Hedera Hashgraphs coin) ? Seems this still not trading anywhere. Everyone has a pie but not the fact that it is real. I think in such a market to ask for such amounts simply from the dream section of the lambo. No one will give money, and if they give a maximum of a couple of millions, then they halve at the exchange trade.

The real problem isn't the accredited investor round or the $120 million raise. The real problem here is that they're raising this at a total market cap valuation of $6 billion which is seriously crack pipe territory and makes it severely unlikely that investors will make any money. It's bad enough that it's not open source and has fees tied to it, now they're worsening it's case by selling at such a crazy valuation.

The Hedera Hashgraph platform aims to be a serious competitor to Ethereum, EOS and NEO, and was impressed by its potential capabilities. The research team promises a fast, secure, fair and highly effective network for smart contracts, dapps and a token.

This is crazy. this guys want to raise 120 mln usd. For what? They don't need such money for development. And after ICO tokens will be trading cheaper.

I have been waiting for a while for hashgraph to become a reality, however I don't understand what the word "unofficial" in the title exactly means. Moreover, not so much information in this ANN, barely any information at all actually.

Many reasons:

- They are Ledger and Solidity program (like Etherium)
- It is decentralised
- They are Open Review - NO FORKS !
- Everyone can see what they are doing.
- They will have coin SAFT
- They will have smart contracts

Why did you decide that it's not open source? As most of the projects here are open source.
