The last case on the above list is slightly different, and occurred on a different date. What it did is effectively set the earned Merits back to 0 for this account by issuing a -44 sMerit TX. The account has received 25 sMerit TXs previously from multiple users over a period of time of over a year and a half. Apparently, PIOUPIOU99 asked for those Merits to be deleted on his account, and his wish came true …
This is news to me, thanks for sharing! I have heard that Theymos can remove merits from users in special circumstances but I never knew that he also removes merits if someone requested it, and looking at the surprised response from other members, they never expected Theymos would grant it.

-snip
@OP, though your merits will not decrease if you delete posts with merits but, as you can see from DdmrDdmr(which is very informative) merits can be deleted/removed by the admin in special circumstances, though I am not sure if Theymos will still grant merits to be removed if a user requests it.

I have read a threat about freezing smerits in the future if not spent. Has this happened to anyone before?
I have not seen someone post about their sMerits being frozen or have decayed.

Good question.

The answer is NO because your merits will remain the same until someone ends you another, it will only increase in number, not decrease.

I was merited on post that got deleted too and my merit number never decreases, so even if a post get deleted someday and you already earned a merit, it stays the same.

Though there is a saying on the forum that there is no reason to hold your Smerit when you have one, I think they have an expiration date on something, so if you have sendable merits it's better to find good posts to send them to.

I think you have gotten the right answer for this topic OP, it will be better to lock this down or you will keep getting the same answer over again.

hi there!

hope y'll having a good today. i was in confusion like if we delete any previous post from Account on which we have got some merits....Deleting that particular post will have any impact on our total of merits like will its reduce or still remain as same as before? I thought i should ask it to the community so that it will add up to my knowledge and Information. If Anyone of you know about this please do lemme know Many Thanks

I don't think that anything can reverse the merit given you. Whether the post is deleted or trashed, your merits stand. Even if you are banned, your merits remain with you. Maybe the only person that has the ability to demerit you is the admin and I doubt that he will have reasons to do that.

I have read a threat about freezing smerits in the future if not spent. Has this happened to anyone before?

If your post has been given merit and it is deleted, the merit that you were given will not be deleted. If your post has been deleted and it was given merit, go to your profile merit page and you will see the merit but the post as deleted.
That’s right. Once you have received merit for a certain post, even if you decide to delete it or it was deleted by the forum later on, your number of merits received will never change. However, the number of activity might lessen but the merit count is still the same. But as much as possible, try to avoid deletion in the future.

The merit you get on your profile will never be deleted from your profile. If you make a post and you get merit in that post, if the moderator deletes your post for any reason, then even if only one post is removed from your total post, your merit number will remain unchanged.  Even if the merit is not deleted from the profile because of the post, always try to post quality and for any reason so that your post is not deleted by the moderator. If multiple posts are deleted from the profile and if the posts are irrelevant then your account may be banned for a certain period of time so definitely try to post good quality from active.
Any post that gets deserved merit would hardly be deleted by moderators, if the post isn't appropriate for the board it was posted then they can move the post but hardly will it be deleted.

In terms of personal decision from the Owners of such post, it is not often you see someone deleting a post that got merit most times is spam posts that is cleaned up, but regardless OP you have gotten your answer by now I guess.

The Merits were sent by a Merit Source at the time, and since this status was withdrawn due to abuse, the Merits were not really sent back to anyone (the receiver receives a positive Merit TX and a subsequent negative Merit TX to cancel the effect of the former).

The last case on the above list is slightly different, and occurred on a different date. What it did is effectively set the earned Merits back to 0 for this account by issuing a -44 sMerit TX. The account has received 25 sMerit TXs previously from multiple users over a period of time of over a year and a half. This other case is different (see this thread): an account got hacked and the hacker sent 3 different 50 sMerit TXs to other accounts. Going over the sMerit TXs, and from what I recall, the sMerit TXs were deleted on that occasion (no negative TXs to counter), and I believe that the sMerit/Merit counters were manually adjusted for the implicates accounts.

At first, I had the same question in my mind what would happen if I deleted my post, My merits go forever or not I started looking in the forum and reading a post in some threads after some days I found a thread I(i forgot that thread if i found that i will post it here) think on this in which the Op of that thread shared a Screenshot of person who's rank was hero but his activity is very low when I read the replies then I found that the person the Op was mentioned deleted his post but the merits he got on that post has remained. So I think you will get your answer from this as well as many of the forum users give their own experiences and knowledge.

<…> I don't know for sure whether those who have reached full member rank and above when they delete their posts until the number of activities decreases at the lower rank limit stage, whether their ranking will also decrease. <…>
Activity may be reduced when posts are deleted (self, mod, self-moderated) and can lead to the account being de-ranked. You can see some of the examples I track on this tab of the Merit Dashboard. The most extreme case is this profile, that likely went from Legendary to Newbie.

Though, as stated, received Merits do not get deleted from the account when one’s (merited) post gets deleted, there have been some historical occasions in which the Forum’s Admin reverted some Merit TXs due to abuse or such. I haven’t seen that happen for quite a while now (years).
.
I am appraised in detail that one's merits can't delete when a merited post is deleted but never knew that forum admins can revert merits based on abuse or any faulted reasons, and am just getting to know of this for the first time.  You said it's a historical case's which means it's very very rare. But for the sake of knowledge my interest is in this question; the reverted merits by a forum admins does it return back to the owner (the abuser), or somewhere else like to the admin, or it's reverted to no one at all?

No of course not received merits retain in your account but reduces your post activity and count. If ever you also hit below the specific rank requirement youll be demoted I believed and rank up again once you hit that specitic requirement.

I had a lot of posts before and deleted those unquality post like social links for campaign prerequisites but didnt reduce my merits. I think deleted few post too with merits, forgot though why I deleted those :p

I think many beginners are also thinking about the same question about this. Because personally I also had time to question it in my own mind. But then I read a topic on Meta Boards and found the answer.

This thread ( FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit) provides all the answers to common questions asked by many beginners. So I hope this thread can also be pinned to the Beginner and Help boards. Because sometimes beginners don't dare to visit meta boards. Because that's how I've felt.

merits you have will not be reduced or erased. What happens if you delete a post or your posts are deleted in quite large numbers is the possibility that your activity and number of posts will decrease. while your Merit will remain in your account.

I don't know for sure whether those who have reached full member rank and above when they delete their posts until the number of activities decreases at the lower rank limit stage, whether their ranking will also decrease. In my opinion, this could happen when the number of activities decreases due to the deletion of posts. but still with the same amount of merit in the account.

My first question is that which of your post do you want to delete that got merit and what is the reason for it ?

If you asked this question as a generic one, then you have been told by the members already that the merits given on that posts will remain with you and they will not be reduced.

Sometimes even mods deleted our posts and it had merits, in that case too, the merits remain intact.

Merit (earned merit) is not decayed over time. There is no Demerit so far. Deleting merited posts does not make your earned merit deduction.
There is currently no such thing as a "demerit". I'm hoping that the positive merits alone will be fine. I could add demerits pretty easily later on if necessary, though.

Click on merit at each post, you will see this message.
I have had some post that I received merits from removed after the main thread got nuked, and yet the merit remained, but if you check my merit history it will show you “deleted post”.
It is the same not only for deleted posts but for posts are not deleted but in forum boards in your Ignored board list.

They will be shown as "(Deleted/Off-limits/Ignored)" in your Merit history page.

Your merits remains the same
Merits earned by a member cannot be tampered by anyone as it has been recorded and can't be deducted when your merited post is deleted. The merits system is designed in such a way that nothing will be able to tamper your earn merit and your Smerit, maybe only the admin can do so, if I am correct. Moderators wouldn't delete any of your post that was merited.

No, it doesn't affect your merit count when a post is deleted. Honestly, the post where you got merited is deleted then the post is gone and yet the merit will remain recorded in your profile. The merit does not depend on post to remain as it is but if a post is deleted then the total post count you have will decrease and activity points may also decrease. Just don't worry about merit when you have a post that is deleted by mods or you deleted it yourself.

You typically cannot lose your merits. It's also written in the forum. It's irreversible. It will be there until the end of time until bitcointalk closes down.  Smiley

Subject to change if the merit system gets scrapped or changed to something else sometime in the future (very unlikely but the possibility is there).

I can see that your curiosity really got the best of you because i can vividly say thats the reason for this question well that's actually good because I also was this curious to know about this particular question which I later found out by myself from reading other posts. A Merit is an irreversible action so I think even if your post is deleted of which you were merited no really happens to the merit.
