I appreciate the effort Bitinstant has made to fix my mistake. And I don't mean to nitpick but it might be better not to mention customer name and exact amount deposited.
Thanks to everyone- Charlie, Bitinstant, forum members, community- for staying on this.

I just took my 10 year old son to the bank today to make his first cash deposit/purchase of Bitcoins. He is very excited.

Hey, sorry I edited my post.

Your account is one number away from mine. You received a deposit from me

we don't feel Chris should have to bear this burden, the mistake can happen to anyone.

I wonder if I should place a bet statement on Bets of Bitcoin predicting how many days before someone sees this precedent and gives it a try with two of their own accounts.

Your right, it will be exploited. However, we don't do it for everyone.

This customer has used us before and will likely use us again.

If it takes $200 to make sure I can keep a valued customer happy...I'd do it any day.

If BitInstant was waiting on the other account to reply, I think they'd be waiting forever!  Say the account holder was not responding.  Now make a clear policy so people don't try to exploit your kindness.

Good guys!  Oh you shouldn't have said how much you gave back Smiley

I was really hoping #118721 would post in this thread!  Did BitInstant ever explain if they had contacted the owner of the account?  Saying they are "working on it", and that it was "resolved" gives no information.

Did they find the account owner?
If so, did they respond?
If so, what did they say?
If yes, what are they waiting for?

Hey,

The account owner never responded to us, or to MtGox.

We realized that this may drag on for the next few weeks, and we don't feel Chris should have to bear this burden, the mistake can happen to anyone.

MrCrappy- We purchased $$ worth of BTC and sent it to your account 16EnTee8cQUQmhfDH1mEorE2oPUTCGQzHr

Once we get this sorted, we will just keep the funds we got back from the wrong account. We decided to front you the cash, enjoy your coins.

We hope you continue doing business with us. Do you mind editing the thread and title?

Thanks

As far as I understood (as in, read in some other threads), withdrawing a certain amount (say, 1k$) of funds from MtGox is a major bureaucratic PITA because of all the ID and stuff they require (that's actually what refrained me from even trying their service so far). The thing that puzzles me the most is that given that bureaucracy, the least you could expect in return is them fixing such erroneous fundings with mismatching IDs a bit more promptly...

triple checking doesn't work?

serious question?  Wink

Yes. I get rather curious to know why people love to overcomplicate simple things.
