Most fingerprint scanners can be fooled (Mythbusters did an episode on this). Additionally, if you are being forced to decrypt your wallet, you can claim to forget your password but you can't "forget" your fingerprints, an attacker can get hold of your fingers much easier than your password.

Right, the biometric entry is just the first level of security.

Also with the multisig, the best way to employ that would be the following:

Have the buyer and seller of the goods provide you each with a pubkey of a bitcoin address they own and generate a 2 of 3 address using their pubkeys plus yours. This way any transaction you make has to be signed by either buyer/seller so you cannot run away with the money, making it almost trust-free. Additionally it makes things easier for you as if the transaction works out OK the buyer/seller can sign the transaction themselves so you don't even need to do anything.

That's an interesting method I may implement in the future. However, there's a small learning curve for the user seeking escrow.

This is slightly off-topic, but anyway.

I don't know exactly how you are employing biometrics in your security, but just so you know, biometrics are typically WEAKER in security than a strong randomly generated password.

Completely free, I even cover transaction fees! (:

Doesn't that mean you're technically operating this at a loss (albeit small)?

Either way, good luck with the escrow - nice to see another active member able to help the community out for free.

Yeah, it costs me about .0001/transaction. I'm not worried about it Smiley

I feel that charging nothing for escrow makes the Bitcoin economy larger and healthier. I also rather focus towards the long term economy rather than short-term profit.

Thanks!

The first escrow went so smoothly, we're going to do it again!

Seller - me
Buyer - drukoz

Items - 2 x HP PSU / Gigampz breakout board / 6-pin PCI-e cable sets (8 total cables)

Terms - .17 BTC total including USPS priority shipping

I am going out within the next 3 hours, so if money is funded into the escrow by then it will ship today.  Otherwise it will ship Monday as that's the next time I'll be able to make it to a Post Office.

I was recently asked in another thread why the escrow addresses start with 3, here's why! (:

Why does the address start with 3?

Devscrow uses Multi-sig Wallet addresses which is more secure than traditional transacting methods.  In the event that one of my private keys are lost or stolen (not very likely thanks to my Biometrics and dedicated rigs), it’s no longer a catastrophe. The concept in m-of-n signature schemes is pretty simple. More than one private key (m) is needed out of a total number generated (n). The process for depositing is exactly the same as a standard address that starts with a 1. For example, in a 3-of-4 scenario, you would need three out of four private keys to withdraw the Bitcoin. It's incomparably harder to steal 3 private keys located at different locations, than one.

You can see the technical breakdown on how they work and how they're created here
