Maybe we should learn to overlook insignificant things, else I would complain why it took 3 secs to load this page while I'm on a super network provider.
That's great, I agree with you. Not all users are bothered by the delay in applying new merit to user profiles. The amount is updated automatically and may take a while in some cases. I don't think this is strange and I don't think it's a urgent issue. If you don't see the merit immediately after you submit, just continue your activity on the forum and come back after a few minutes rather than reloading page repeatedly.

OP, this is nothing unusual to worry about. Be patient for a moment and the merit will be updated automatically.

just visit his profile using ----> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=UID The merit is updated there instantly.
It is true that sometimes there is a delay, but it is within 5 minutes, and I do not think it is a big deal.

A few days ago I was getting an error trying to send multiple merits in less than 10 seconds (I had a ready list) so maybe there are some limitations.
Yea, Op also need to understand that this is network and some set of codes put together to perform a task by getting and fetching. Even in the real life, I can call your name "hugeblack" maybe more than once before you could respond. If that is true, why bother that merit didn't appear almost immediately. It would have been a problem if the merit doesn't appear at all and not because of a little load time delay. Maybe we should learn to overlook insignificant things, else I would complain why it took 3 secs to load this page while I'm on a super network provider.

When I was relatively new here, I had the habit of trying to suggest things to make the forum better or discover wrongly implemented stuffs. But it didn't take long till I fell inlove with this forum and discovered that everything here is good. I really wonder if there will ever be a new forum software.

Yes, I have also noticed the delay when I sent some merits. After sending the merits if you visit the profile of the user then you can see the merits on that profile on time but it takes time to display the same merit on posts. I think it's not just OP's issue it's a delay on the server side of the forum.

I haven't just noticed it one time but many times and most of the times it takes a few minutes before we can see the merits that we have sent. It's an issue but not an intense one and I think a little bit work is needed to solve this issue of the forum. I hope that PowerGlove might come with a patch to fix the issue if it's a SMF based issue.

I haven’t noticed this before but this must be your cache data that is causing it. The cache as you may already know temporarily stores data so it can be easily fetched when required. So, this isn’t just about this forum. When you refresh a website, not everything you see is always refreshed, some are from previous information stored as cache. You can clear the cache for any website (if you need an assured data).

Yes, what OP described is true. I noticed it too and it used to bother me in the past as I would wait and be eager to see any merit I sent reflect on the receiver's profile. However, at a point I stopped getting bothered. All I do now is check if the merit I send reflects on the post I put it on and that's it. I just move on to other things. I guess the delay has to do with the software used by this forum. It's nothing much of a worry, actually; let alone being tagged weird.

I don’t think there is anything weird about this, it’s as normal as it’s always been on my part of observation. Though I wouldn’t say I have taken the time to take a close look at the timing to this but, from population observation, the merit reflects on posts first and after few seconds or at most a minute reflects on the users merit counter. There is nothing to be worried about that. Once you can see your merit on the post of interest, you can be at piece that you merited just the right post from the right user and the merit count shouldn’t be much of a concern at that point.

I've not really noticed this 'anomaly' if it could be called that but that's probably because when I send, I see an addition to the count of the recipient the moment I refresh my page? Most likely. Well, maybe it can be something temporary and nothing to be ruffled about.

It's not weird at all but yes. I have noticed it also. Once I saw a user with for example 4998 merit, and I though ohh lets make it 5000, take a screenshot and let it become an achievement. So I sent 2 sMerit, refreshed the page but he still had 4998. So  I waited, still nothing. I thought it was a mistake so I sent again. After some moment, I realized I sent more than what was needed. It became 5002. But I never saw this with a low ranked user.

Note: The numbers I said was made up. I don't exactly remember how much merit he had but he was a legendary ranked user.

What really seems to be the main problem to this because if one isn't careful you can send more than what you planned on sending like @DYING_SOUL said happened to him.
Let's say what if in a situation where you're suppose to send like 5merit to a post that deserves to be merited and you accidentally sent 10 instead of 5 merit, how would you get the remaining 5 back? Can you lay a complain about it for it to be refunded?  Like how is it going to be like?🤔
I think this delay of showing how many merit that was sent to a user is because of that error we normally have when using the Forum, I thought of it as the cause.

Yes, notice that but I don't think there's anything weird about it because it's a very short time.
Really?  How are you defining "short time" exactly, because I've noticed what OP's talking about for a long time now (usually when I'm doing post history reviews), and I could swear it's taken minutes sometimes before the merits I've sent are reflected in the recipient's count.

I never thought much of this issue, as I figured it was just another little glitch in the forum software--sort of like how it's incredibly slow to use the search function, you know?  I think that New Forum Software is just a masturbation parade, but if there really is something new in the works I'm hoping some small "problems" like this get fixed.  I'm not keeping my fingers crossed, though.

However I noticed that when I send someone some merit for example , it takes a little more time than it used to before it reflects in the users profile especially higher rank members.
That's pretty normal for browsers sometimes it's just cache of your browser that needed a hard refresh especially if you're not fond of deleting it regularly.
Is it that?  Because I've seen the merit stat change without my browser's cache being cleared....I don't know, maybe I'll try a little experiment the next time I'm reviewing posts.  Thanks for that bit of input.
usually 5-10 minutes before the profile shows the updated merit point. It's the same way if you see a user lacking 5 merits to rank up and they have the activity, there will be a delay in them showing the next rank after you send them the required merit.

Probably not a big deal since it's not days delay.

It's case to case basis. Since it's not a server issue or internet connections, it should be just browser issue in the user's end just like the changing of the avatar.

I think his merit database does not have the proper indexing.

I am not really sure if it's a network issue on my end though I have a nice network connection or it's something you guys might have also experienced.
Could it be as a result of more traffic on the forum or something else?
It is an issue but not big one.

There are two pages to see merit history of one account.
1. Profile page: https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/mia-chloe-3558380
2. Merit summary page: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=3558380

The second page is like updated every second and you will see all latest merit transactions of your account, earned and sent, at this link.

The first page is laggy. It takes some time like few seconds to 1 minute to update.

It's nothing wired and nothing new, not anything that is unaware to many people here who usually earn and send out merit more often. I noticed this when I was still a member rank. After you send merit to a user, it will actually take some seconds or minute before it finally reflects on the person's profile. I feel it's just how the site was designed. Even the day I ranked up to full member, I was actually online making posts on a Wednesday at noon when my activities were successful and updated for the next rank, but it took about a minute before my rank title changed. I kept refreshing to see if it will change but I did not until after a minute, could not have been a network issue.

It's not weird, it's actually set intentionally by the admin to ensure that the resource requirement by the website is not so huge and is manageable. I am no expert on how websites are run but imagine if the forum had to update such information even micro second. It would mean a very high resource utilization and/or slow down the forum loading speed, which is pretty fast under normal circumstances.

If you have noticed, even activity points and forum ranks take time to update.

I need to wait a while when I hit the LFC_Bitcoin merit gain to 9000. Sometimes it's slow - sometimes it's fast, but I don't know what the problem is. For me - it's not something you need to pay attention to because so far it's not an urgent problem to solve. Then from that - this has nothing to do with traffic, but the forum needs a little time to update certain numbers including activity and also merit.

This is not an issue with your internet connection. It is a technical limitation of the forum software. The forum's system needs time to process and update the total number of merits for each user. This process can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.
