Post shows the number of comments(posts under threads) you have contributed to the forum.

activity the same says maybe it's something related to "Activeness", literally how active you are and if you are making quality posts not spams. You can acquire activity through posting. So by raising your posts, your activity will increase. Your activity is counted within a period of 2 weeks which gives you a maximum of 14 activities or 14 days of being active in your account.

Posts means the number of posts you've made (till date).
Activity simply means you get 1 for each of your posts that you make during a period of 14 days, limiting it to 14 for 2 weeks. That doesn't mean that if you don't make 14 posts, you will not get the remaining ones in future.
In fact, even if you make at least 1 post (or 2 or whatever number but not exactly 14 or more) during a specific 14 days period before/after a cycle ended, you're entitled to get the remaining activity during the next cycle when you complete the remaining posts.

For e.g.; If you make 2 posts during a 2 week period, you'll receive 2 activity points. Though, during the next 2 week period, you can get your remaining 12 activity once you complete 12 more posts. Not just that, but as you've posted during another posting period, you're entitled to get 14 + 14 = 28 activity for the total 4 weeks. But remember, you need to make at least 1 post during a 14 days period to receive the remaining 13 activity any time later once you complete your remaining number in posts.

You can only increase your activity points by 14 for every two weeks since your registration, this is to try to avoid someone from abusing the system thereby creating a lot of higher rank accounts in a very short time.

Yes, I understand the post but what makes something activity. That link just told me what I need to move up in rank, not an explanation of activity.
Activity is defined in the link I gave you, along with the formula. Maybe read the actual contents of the link?

It was not in the initial post and the link had 45 pages, so no I am not going to sift through 45 pages.

Hoping this will cleard your clouds regarding "activity" and "post" (if there is anything left after "boyptc" explanation) Smiley

Regarding the Activity points system >
Explanation:
  • After your registration you have 14 days cycles in which you can gain up to 14 Activity points.
  • Every post generates you 1 Activity point but in 14 days time span you can gain up to 14 Activity points even if you have more than 14 posts.
  • On the day 15 the cycle restarts and you can again collect your 14 points.
Interesting thing is if you have posts over the limit from the previous cycle, with the first comment in the new cycle you get the Activity points from the old posts you had in the previous cycle.
Example:  I had 28 Activity points and 33 comments before the end of the cycle, with my first post in the new cycle my Activity points went up to 34, the same amount as my posts.

So 14 days periods starts from registration? Even if I was not attending during one week after registration (on leave), then I still have chance to gain 14 points, during remaining period, right?

Edit - Posts that you're posting on Ivory tower or serious discussion boards are didn't count as activity

There's the explanation about activity. You haven't read the bottom of the first quote.
The way activity is calculated:
The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is updated every hour.

Hello! I am still considered a n00b but I have 37 posts. Can someone explain to me the difference between activity and posts?

Thank you!
