Yes you can, and user philipma has the whole thread about it, that you need to check out here : https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/mixing-your-gpus-my-thread-on-r9-390s-with-rx-480s-any-mismatch-is-welcome-1561775
Apparently there's not much of a problem in mining when you're mixing cards, see quote below :

All GCN AMD cards can be mixed and mined with without issue. I've mixed 7950/7970/280x/290/290x/390/390x/RX480 all without issue. It's nothing complicated.

That said, I prefer keeping similar cards together.

Hope this answers your question, cheers

It can of course, but problem will be with drivers. It seems that older cards, as the R9 380, prefer 15.12 drivers, but RX 480 need the latest ones. However, maybe it has been corrected and there's now no problem at all by running everything at the latest drivers.

for sure really not sure if you use latest drivers on RX480 and  R9 380 you will not get black screen as it happens when u use latest drivers on R9 380

Can different serie gpus be used on the same motherboard?

For example: a sapphire r9 390 and a sapphire rx 480

Or

A XFX r7 370 and a rx 470

Hope someone can help
