I kinda do agree with you and at a same time with others:

Pros:
1) A personal and a business email could be displayed separating each email for better use
2) Displayed emails could be used and included upon sign message for better verification of the accounts and for better assurance of identity upon a hack of any account

Cons:
1) Spam bomb from the members of the forum
2) Emails used to trick someone that their somebody else which could be controlled by signing a message on meta section together with emails

So for me it's really a 50-50 case scenario Smiley

I prefer to remain within the confines of the forum. There's PM if someone needs to get ahold of me. People should be using junk email addresses for the present forum anyway just in case.

You can display yours in your signature..if email is not hidden i'm sure lots of scammer will spam your email and you don't want that.

Email will be hidden by default. This is an optional feature.

Hello! I don't like to give current email address associated with my account to others but at the same time, I would like others to know an email address of mine so that they can contact me. For this, I think a 'display' email will be helpful. That is, we can add two email addresses, one for forum messages which won't be displayed publicly and one for displaying publicly. Suggestions/opinions are most welcome!

i really think this will attract spam, also there is lot of bots arround on the net searching for new emails to bomb" Wink

but maybe another checkbox like "show my email to others" or something like that would made the trick, i will never recommend that but if thats what you want...

Is what I said "too hard" to understand or aren't people reading? Huh

There is already an option to hide email address and email address is hidden by default. What I want is another field where, if the user wants, can add one more email address which will be shown publicly instead of registered email address.

I would like this, I have a new public email on my domain, but I still register on sites with my personal email. I would like this feature, and it wouldn't attract any more spam than the current system.

IMHO it's not necessary.
Keep in mind that if you want tot get in touch with another user using an email account, you can send it to him on a direct message.  Wink

As well, on your 'Forum profile information' you can add an email address and make it public. Their effect is going to be the same than with the option that you propose: spam.

Anyway, let's see what the other people think

Thank you!

-snip-
Btw you should add a poll so we know other people opinions and staff can take their decision based on it

Polls are easily manipulated.

If I can say my opinion, I don't think this improvement is necessary in this or in the new forum. So I don't support your proposal, because as the other users said "it will attract the spam".

Thank you for your opinion!

To be clear: this option is similar to current 'Hide email address from public' option except there is a field for adding another email address for public.

Yes, there's probably a more or less foolproof way to implement it. If you really want it, I'm not opposed, but I still don't see why.

Opinions are welcome and if this is not a good feature, then there is no reason to add this.

BTW, what happens when you uncheck the box "Hide email address from public?" in your profile-account related settings? Isn't that what you wanted?

No. That will display the email address I linked with this account but I don't want to use that email address. Especially, because of the potential spam.

It'll only attract spam, so why would you want to do that?
This is "optional". You can hide your email if you want no one to see it but for those who want to put a public email address, this will be helpful.
Sure, but you know how people are. They see a field "email address" and they fill it in. Later, they wonder why they receive tons of spam. Roll Eyes
I think 'display email address' option in 'Forum Profile Information'[1] and a line about that option won't make confusion.

+1 Yeah It will only attract the scammer, and they will send you fishy emails. And will try to scam you in different ways. I dont think its needed.

Buy the way you can start a poll for that.

im also with this idea because scammer will get more chances to scam more people as you know there are a lot of scammer around who just wanted to get a chance to scam someone
