Can someone tell me what wallet you are using?

It would depend on the purpose of wallet. I recommend you read up on paper wallets and hardware wallets. I keep most of my BTC on armory but that may be a little much for someone just starting. I also have a trezor which I'm still playing around with.

Regardless this is a topic worthy of deep diving into.

You can get a wallet on any exchange you put your bitcoins, but is not recommended. You must create a wallet that you control the private key, for example blockchain.info. or if you have cash , you can get a cold storage.

I am using Jaxx & Copay as mobile wallets and Ledger Nano S as a hardware wallet.

You will need a wallet for sure and a virtual wallet on top of that, because just like real money, bitcoin should be kept place in a safe zone where you can get it through your own way and without any middleman or so, because it will make the transactions more difficult!

if you want to trade your bitcoins with altcoin, it can be better keep it in some good exchanges like bittrex, bitfinex. But if you want to hold it long term, get a btc wallet and keep your private key in a safe place, 10 years later buy your car and house Smiley

Actually you don't need any kind of wallet. You can keep your bitcoin or any other altcoins in the market. Like Bittrex, Bitfinex...

I Highly suggest you learn peer to peer trading! It's much easier if you would like to buy bitcoins, I highly suggest you also use Paxful for your wallet, they do not need any validation

First welcome to the forum.
Yes if you want to store your bitcoins you have to have a wallet. But here comes a question, now you gonna acquire your fist coins, buying, faucets, working for coins?  If you are buying from Exchanges they also offer wallets like coinbase, binance, etc.
You have different alternatives, blockchain.info is a good start.
