greetings to you guys, I registered few days ago and I have took my time to go through boards that the names sounds familiar and easy to pronounce like economics, meta, Bitcoin discussion and beginners and help. Beginners and help especially meta has all the information I need as a newbie (I'm not lazy and I love exploring too) so I'm not here to stress anyone with numerous questions but as a newbie I still need words of encouragement. I have seen that some members in the forum are in hero and legendary level and my question is;

those members in hero and legendary level were they newbies before?

If you’re talking about forum ranks, everyone in this forum where once a newbie here and their rank were gradually increased as days pass by through their activeness in the forum, their activity factor and merits. And when you’re asking about knowledge base in the forum; most forum members in high ranks have learnt a lot about bitcoin either from this forum or off the forum, so for them to have gotten to that rank here, it means they’re knowledgeable about bitcoin and didn’t just earn the rank like that.

You could also come across some other ranks that are newbies and know very much about bitcoin, so you shouldn’t only see the members in higher ranks as the best of people that knows about bitcoin, even the lower ranks who are knowledgeable about it before now can be so good in it when interacting here. Since you’re a newbie, just keep learning, you’ll one day be in their shoes and also have something to say when newbies come into the forum and get confused just like you now.

How are they so knowledgeable about Bitcoin and everything that revolves around it? With my little knowledge about Bitcoin, do I stand a chance here? Because everyone seems to know so much about Bitcoin and I'm still a learner. I want to be knowledgeable about Bitcoin and I'm open to every instructions and advice from you guys.

There’s no secret to being a knowledgeable bitcoin person, you just have to be ready to learn again and again in order to perfect your knowledge about it. A lot of people have come far in seeking for knowledge about bitcoin and that’s why they’re so good in it today. It’s a journey you’ve to embark on to be like them and you also have a chance here. Many like you and also myself started off somewhere in this forum to have come far about bitcoin. So take your time and learn to understand what bitcoin is.

Short answer: Yes

Slightly longer answer is that there was a merit airdrop in 2018, users who joined before the merit system were giving merits commensurate to their rank at the time. Before merits you only need activity to reach any rank. There were still very knowledgeable members before the merit system and many of them have gone on to earn legenday rank (i.e 1000 merits) several times over.
Those who have not been able to earn more merits since the airdrop are probably not hanging around anymore.

Many of the knowledgeable members learnt most of what they know from this forum, bitcoinstackexchange, Reddit and other useful websites. You stand a big chance to gain knowledge if you put in the effort and understand that it takes time. Don't focus on earning merits but how to learn and apply more Bitcoin knowledge. You'll also pick up good financial advice from this forum.
Read, engage and read some more.

That's right, everyone started from your rank, and over time, they rose in rank thanks to their constructive contributions and gained the necessary experience. Whatever the member's rank is, it is not a definitive measure of his expertise and high knowledge. Everyone here tries to benefit others with what they know and also seeks to increase their knowledge and benefit from other members' discussions with their diverse experiences, ideas, and ranks.

Your little knowledge is not a problem; we all started learning and continue to learn. With your effort and constant attention to important topics to understand the basics, Glossary, various discussions, and reliable sources for books, courses, and academies to increase your knowledge in Bitcoin, your expertise and knowledge will grow over time.

the forum's purpose is to discuss topics, exchange information, etc..., if you have little knowledge about Bitcoin, then read and join the discussion. people here could care less if you had little knowledge about Bitcoin when you joined the forum. if you have questions, then ask, I am certain forum members will be more than willing to answer questions that you might have.

Everyone started as a newbie when they sign up to this forum no matter who you are but with time we all rank up to our current position.

In as much as some joined the forum already having broad knowledge about bitcoin, many joined the forum as a total newbie having no actual knowledge about Bitcoin but their willingness to learn and know the truth made them who they are now. With Cricktor instruction you are good to go in your learning in the right track

You register a new forum account, you're a forum newbie. You can be a Bitcoin expert before you register an account or the opposite, doesn't matter, you're still a forum newbie. ("You" in a broader sense...)

Of course, as an "expert" with knowledge to share and helping others and being able to contribute merit worthy posts, posts that add value to the forum, those with knowledge and ability to write nicely will rank up likely faster.

I was of course once a forum newbie, too, and learned about Bitcoin around 2011 with way less knowledge about it back then. My current account is far younger, though, nothing wrong with reading silently for a long time.  Wink

My main focus in this forum was to read and share interesting things about Bitcoin, to learn and to share knowledge once learned. If you focus too much on ranks, you're gonna likely have a hard time and less fun here.

For a start to learn more about Bitcoin, hop to https://learnmeabitcoin.com and work through Beginners and later Technical sections. There is a lot to learn on that site if you want. I visit this site even after years regularly and to refresh memory and details.

Books like "Mastering Bitcoin", available on Github, are another source if you prefer that. I don't give you a link, try to find it yourself, it hones searching skills.

Also practice to search things in this forum either by Search or by using the marvelous external site https://ninjastic.space.

Take your time and enjoy reading interesting topics in this forum. There are a lot of them (sometimes a lot of garbage, too).

I haven't stayed long here but from my experience so far forum members here are good at answering questions they have helped me answer some Bitcoin question that I didn't understand.
I'm still trying my best to learn more technical things on the forum hopefully someday I'll be also answering questions for newbies on the forum.
